I just love this type of music and Buddy Holly was one of the greatest. I also find it quite funny how type1diva thinks secret service 80 would really be in the secret service. Im pretty sure they wouldnt go round advertising the fact !
Wouldn't it be fun to ask any band of the last 30 years to play under the same circumstances, no microphone, no mixer, amps? ok maybe 1, and produce a sound akin to this. I am so glad this has been preserved for generations that came afterwards (like me) to appreciate.
I think it's touching the way that lady is concerned that the young people "will feel that you understand them". Imagine that kind of concern today. You just dont see it. So ahead of her time saying things like "keep an open mind". Great video. Thanks for posting.
@pandenomiumcrisis No, I'm not. I use the term 'nigger' to explain rapping jack asses with teardrop tattoos that raped a white girl 5 years ago like 'Lil Wayne. I love African-American people! I think 98% of them are awesome. It's just those 2% that piss me off.
@SecretService80 well either way the word nigger is a word that was used in the past and should stay in the past. it's offensive no matter how you mean it. If you're really in the secret service, i'm positive your vocabulary is very broad and you can find other words to use to demean those types of people. and what do you call the white men who rape black girls? Think about what you type before you type it. Thanks.
@SecretService80 im 13 this is my favorite kind of music 50s 60s bobby darin jerry lee lewis johnny cash elvis presley buddy holly frank sinatra bill haley little richard fats dominoe the platters the chords the chordettes chuck berry everly brothers five satins isley brothers frankie lyon and the teenagers gene vincent and the bluecaps the list goes on and on...
i love this chick's intro about keeping an open mind about rock and roll or else the kids will think you don't understand them. Such a sweet lady. She'd be banging her head to Anthrax and Sepultura these days
Gerry allison (the drummer) said buddy always played down strokes only (At least on this song)..this music is simple but it was innovative..ordinary kids saw that you didn't have to have film star looks to make it and all of holly's stuff was playable in a short time...Holly launched a thousand careers without knowing...I saw the crickets in Liverpool....they played the music and an adoring crowd sang all the words to every song..amazing..and wonderful to be there.
This is such an odd (To me, purely because i'm only 20) but wonderful piece of video. Undoubtedly a classic and is great to see an introduction to a performance like this.
I believe everybody has a right to express their feelings, even if the opinion is as a-musical as yours.
The solo between 1.41 and 2.00 is so right, it takes your breath away. I won´t even go into the lyrics and the fact that Peggy Sue Got Married was also a great and unique song. Buddy was a great artist. He will be remembered for centuries. God bless you Buddy
buddy is dust, he is as alone as anything can get. Unfortunately his music is not dust, I wish he had lived because then people would have seen that this guy had no talent. his music SUCKS, plain and simple, lets just agree on that.
ok, its not your music but many people love this guy ! its simple effective and its more the vibe of the music not if it is good or not ...how old are you siliconeweb ?? because if ur not from the era that apprieciates timless music then u have no opinion
not my time so I guess I can't reminisce but I do like most of the 50s music. I just never understood this guys music, I find it very boring. I think his early death made him bigger than what he really was. Just my opinion, nothing more nothing less.
...And i thought blink182 fans were quick to start calling people names. You need to chill out, he didn't say anything offensive, all, he just stated an opinion, and if you can't handle that, then maybe you're listening to the wrong kind of music... that's not what Buddy Holly's about.
@subplastic "I think you need to keep a nice open mind for what the young people go for, otherwise the youngsters may feel you do not understand them" ;) I'm into all music, I like old, new,out of this world type of music and good old classics like this, music is music, accept things have changed, music doesn't get better or worser, it just changes it has to evolve like everything else.
Nice thought I am having dinner with my mon tommorow night. I was the first born she was 19 in 1959. I am going to ask her what she thought of Buddy Holly. So stay tuned folks!!!
unfortunatly folks < I asked my Mom and she did not know much about Buddy holly.I unfortunatly appear not to be related.Sorry for all you hopefulls that i might have his genes!
I was 13 when he was killed and it broke my heart. My sisters played his records all day long on a little old portable player and I loved it. It truly was, as Don McClean said, The Day the Music Died..
In later years after Buddy died, Sonny Curtis' song I Fought The Law hit the charts to the touch of the Bobby Fuller Four.
Singers and songwriters like Buddy and company are getting scarce. I was shocked to find today's 15 year old have interest in Buddy in another Buddy video. I grew up listenin' Buddy so, I was bit out of place in my teen years. Great stuff!
Wow! That made my hair stand on end! What a genius for getting all that sound out of 3, count 'em, 3 instruments! I wonder if he had any idea just how much he would help shape the music world. Thanks for sharing and thanks, Buddy, that was great!:)
I absolutely LOVE Buddy Holly, thanks so much for posting this. Haha isn't it funny how much rock has changed? Back in the 50s this was like hardcore rock and roll. I can't even imagine parents telling their children to turn down that "bracket" whenever Buddy Holly and the likes were played by teens haha
