Well, it is true to say that post Genesis has become and continues to be a genius...however, Phil made 2 decent solo albums and genesis best live pieces are from the earliest days.....but then I do so love los endos...Oh who cares, it's just music........

Not to mention the fact that they lost Hackett and decided to solve the problem like they had with Peter. When Hackett left and Rutherford took over guitars, they had to simplify the sound. Rutherford is a bass player - his guitar work is not near the caliber of Hackett's.

I suppose Phil haters would have liked it better if Genesis had done what Kiss did and hire 5 new guitarists and 2 new singers.

When one makes a record usually a record company has to be involved to sell enough to make a profit Prog rock bands of the 70s existed because record labels did not require a single. Bad news children - since he 80s, rock album sales are generated by things known as "singles".

Hence: had Genesis not written singles - they would have ceased to exist.

I think Phil and Peter (and even Ray) were great frontmen in their own special ways :-) No reason to bicker about it. The band themselves said the only time they almost broke up was when Ant left. Not Phil or Peter. GENESIS can carry on without either of them or with just one of them at any point and still be wonderful! Fans of all eras unite!

Its not fair to say Phil killed the band - what some people fail to realise is that their music really defined progressive ie experimenting with instruments and new sounds - if you notice not one Genesis album sounds the same.

They did what they wanted to do, not what Phil wanted - that was what his solo career was for!

No memeber of Genesis was better than another - they're all great in different ways!

I saw Genesis five times in Chicago. The Auditorium Concert in 1975 with Lamb all the way to the 1980 show at the Rosemont Horizon. There was an aire of 'do you accept us with out Peter' in the 'Trick of the Tail' show in 1976 but the crowd loved them. Every time I see these videos, it brings back so many lovely memories of a band of musicians who could actually write original thoughtful material, perform it live and fulfill all the expectations of the audience in the process.
