Well, it is true to say that post Genesis has become and continues to be a genius...however, Phil made 2 decent solo albums and genesis best live pieces are from the earliest days.....but then I do so love los endos...Oh who cares, it's just music........
Not to mention the fact that they lost Hackett and decided to solve the problem like they had with Peter. When Hackett left and Rutherford took over guitars, they had to simplify the sound. Rutherford is a bass player - his guitar work is not near the caliber of Hackett's.
I suppose Phil haters would have liked it better if Genesis had done what Kiss did and hire 5 new guitarists and 2 new singers.
me not, I love the way Phil , Tony and Mike decide to continue alone with the talent that god gave them ...nothing better and I love Genesis without eras... I love genesis . for I am not in the Phil haters group ... I m a huge fan like million in the world...
Uncle Phil haters are CLUELESS! For those of you that bash Phil here's my 2 cents:
When one makes a record usually a record company has to be involved to sell enough to make a profit Prog rock bands of the 70s existed because record labels did not require a single. Bad news children - since he 80s, rock album sales are generated by things known as "singles".
Hence: had Genesis not written singles - they would have ceased to exist.
sorry tomorrow I vote good, because my finger did the wrong ... I agree with you... Genesis continue existing and that s great for all us... the huge fans that need their music in all times and like once Bob Dylan said... times there are changing ...something like that...
I think Phil and Peter (and even Ray) were great frontmen in their own special ways :-) No reason to bicker about it. The band themselves said the only time they almost broke up was when Ant left. Not Phil or Peter. GENESIS can carry on without either of them or with just one of them at any point and still be wonderful! Fans of all eras unite!
finally I found my twin soul... you said the only true and I like too much your comment... is more than a comment ...and I agree with you...FANS OF ALL ERAS UNITE...I am one of that kind of fan ... is more simply... GENESIS ... has no eras... GENESIS IS GENESIS ....stop this war between us !
Its not fair to say Phil killed the band - what some people fail to realise is that their music really defined progressive ie experimenting with instruments and new sounds - if you notice not one Genesis album sounds the same.
They did what they wanted to do, not what Phil wanted - that was what his solo career was for!
No memeber of Genesis was better than another - they're all great in different ways!
As the song goes...I know what I like and I like what I know.....
frankymass I agree totally. They are all unique and their uniqueness was highlighted by their collaboration on some of the most electic, ethereal and ambient music in the history of the genre.
that s what I think... idem like you!...all albums has a sound, a line, a different surprise for us... I am a fan of GENESIS and enjoy all what they make...!
Stop bickering, Phil Collins fronted a very good Genesis tribute band. no tribute bands are as good as the original. And they found their way on to TOTP....
phill collins drive this band to horrible electro sounds, just listen to duke is not the same.that was an dramatic chance for genesis. the brain of Genesis was PETER GABRIEL.
i dont play drumms son. but i have an good ear for all types of instruments. phill was good on drumms, but when Peter said "good bye", phill didnt sold england by the pound, he sold genesis by the pound. think about it.
Not sure where "son" is coming from. As time goes on, I'll care even less. As far as the rest of your statement, well, it's what it is.... a statement. Free country.
How come there are no mirrors or even smoke? Are the japanese not into that kind of stuff or were the roadies too lazy too bring them half way around the world?
I saw Genesis five times in Chicago. The Auditorium Concert in 1975 with Lamb all the way to the 1980 show at the Rosemont Horizon. There was an aire of 'do you accept us with out Peter' in the 'Trick of the Tail' show in 1976 but the crowd loved them. Every time I see these videos, it brings back so many lovely memories of a band of musicians who could actually write original thoughtful material, perform it live and fulfill all the expectations of the audience in the process.

You're right...
Each member of Genesis had "Their own special ways"
In the 80's they were pretty much obliged to have some commercial success.

He made genesis famous.

You're full of it, Steve played on the original recording of this one.

Why is this dude getting bad ratings? He's right, Steve Hackett was playing guitar on the original "Selling England By The Pound" version.
