I hate to sound like I'm justifying slavery, because I'm not...but I find it hard for Americans (and I assume that you are talking about the U.S.) to have had slaves for over 300 years being that the nations isn't that old yet. Slavery was first introduced in the Americas by Europeans.
It is true, slaves were mistreated and slavery in the U.S. was a terrible thing. But we weren't the only nation in history to have them, nor we we the only ones who mistreated them.

Incredible to watch something like this, when you realize that just a mere 9 years later Berlin would be in ruins, Hitler's body burning in the backyard of a bunker, Germany occupied by foriegn armies, a war with 50-70 million dead in the world.
Couldn't the leaders in the world see what was happening in Germany at the very moment the Olympics were going on? Was everyone so desperate for peace that they deluded themselves about the Nazis?

"deluded" might be stretching. but considering the devastation france and britain suffered in WWI coupled with the financial crisis of the great depression, i think they were pretty keen on not fighting another war. So i think you are right on track. of course history would show that ww2 would be far worse in terms of material, human, and moral costs. but everything became clear only in hindsight.

@dt089 You are missing the big picture: the entire Holocaust incl. the bombing of Dresden and Hiroshima, and even more recent massacres commited by the Allies or their friends worldwide.
I admit that people suffered under the nazi regime, but such things happens in any totalitarian regime, even today, and even in the so-called democracies.
That's why the nazi regime has failed, along with the help from the corrupted "allied" powers: nazism was not a true democracy and had no time to become such.

@dt089 Just one question: why would the Germans exterminate a people during a war, while needing manpower and all resources for the war and for their own industry? What a waste of labour force, bullets and gas. They could have sent them all on the war zones, and thus making them die by the bombs and fire exchange.
If you can justify the allied bombings, anyone can justify a massacre, and the holocaust as well. All parties were murderers, after all. Jews died, while rich Jews financed the war.

Many more Indians died on the continent before the United States was even created. An entire generation was wiped out from disease delivered to them from our filthy ancestors from Europe. So one could argue that Europe was responsible for more American Indian deaths than the United States ever was.
