  • please respect his individuality for allowing you to film him, by not making fun or joking about him. secondly please blur his face if you cant control your remarks while filming.really sad.

  • Awesome video, first year medical student in the states and they mention it all the time in neuroscience but I was having a difficult time imagining what this looks like. Thank you very much.

  • good learning

  • thanx por posting, 6. years in uni and have never seen any patient with athetosis

  • So much better than words, combination of this and choreiform movements can be seen in Lesch-Nyhan. Other than that, I just think basal ganglia lesion for this alone.

  • Basal ganglion lesions in the perinatal phase are mostly the reason for athethosis, tourette or choreatic dyskinesises. There are also many syndromes (it's what you said Lesch-Nyhan for example) genetic defects that are responsible for those dysfunctionalities.

Also extrapyramidal (non-corticospinal) unfunctionalities can be the reason for those symptoms.

Please forgive my english, it's not so good.

  • @XSirApocalypseX

No worries! Your English is quite terrible. By terrible, I mean horrendously awful. :)

  • @cgoverland69 Hahahaha! :)

  • Thank you for posting

  • i think athetosis ( spontaneous writhing movement of hands and face ) is due to damage to the globus pallidus of lentiform nucleus of basal ganglia ..

    thanks for for video ..

way better from written words .. :)

  • i am a physical therapy student, and this video helped a lot to as learning material.

  • you couldve at least blurred the face.... this violates the patient's right to confidentiality....

    but very good example......

    try editing the video....

  • Fantastic example, but do you not think that the patient deserves some respect and dignity?

If you knew you weren't able to blurr his face you so easily could have shot the video WITHOUT showing his face. Surely how hard can that be?

  • @bute007 i am sure he gave consent and you cant like the video with a name so it is fine... Its not disrespectful bc it is an educational video

  • Thank you for the video, geat example.

  • LESION EN NUCLEOS BASALES ES BASICO

  • does anyone know how to BLURR the face ??? by window mediaplayer..

  • well,it is a good learning strategy but the patient's identitiy should be masked and the patient should be adressed with respect:)

    thanks

  • Probably due to Huntington's Disease. An Autosomal Dominant disorder that involves chromosome 4, and usually affects the Caudate Nucleus of the Basal Ganglia.
