  • I feel like I've been transported back to the 1840s and I'm watching Liszt play. Richter is so brilliant!

  • 02:30 -

Tscherkessenmarsch aus Russlan und Ludmilla, S.406

  • As far as I know, this is the one if not only recording of Richter playing any opera transcription. From what I remember reading , he despised playing transcriptions.

  • wht piece is richter playing?

  • @Nimenicamine01 Sorry...the Etude is no. 9 (so called "Ricordanza" in 1851 version). And Glinka's piece isn't the Ouverture, but the "Tscherkassenmarsch" from Russlan and Ludmilla.

  • On retrouve le français comme langue culturelle dominante dans la sainte russie du 19 eme siècle...

  • Wow! Ueberraschungsfund!

  • is the actor-pianist Richter? I can't undersatnd

  • epic win.

  • Наш Рихтер!

  • 50ies not 70ies!

richter was an old man in the 70ies

  • Forgot to add: this is probably the only existing recording of Richter performing (partially) Liszt's Transcendental Etude No. 9 (the first piece).

  • An unbelievable piece of film: the 20th Century's greatest pianist performing the role of the 19th Century's greatest pianist. When Richter announces himself as "Franz Liszt!!" at 5:35...it's close to actually witnessing the real thing... Note: Volodos plays the same Glinka piece somewhere but not better. And consider that Richter is just fooling around here (throwing his hands in the air, etc.) on a bad piano in bad sound...

  • This is awesome!

The intro is the end of no. 9 from the Transcendental studies. The main piece is Glinka's Russlan and Ludmilla - which Liszt adapted for piano. At the time this scene was set, Liszt was probably the most famous person and most widely acclaimed musician in Europe.

Liszt was known to improvise on themes given by the audience, also to sight read anything that was put in front of him.

Richter does all his own stunts!

  • what movie is this? is he richter?

  • ye that's certainly richter

  • It's a movie called Dreams of Love.

    It's a Hungarian-Russian film of the 1970s.

  • actually it's the film: "composer Glinka"

  • please name some more movies based on classical musicians ., { in english }

  • What an interesting film this is....

  • I saw his hands near the beginning of this video and they are huge!!!

  • this is from Composer Glinka movie where Richter acted as liszt and improvised

  • there used to be a video here of rachmaninov playing flight of the bumble(piano scroll) and he stretched from A to F(minor 14th) with his left hand(there was a very big chord so he probably didnt use his right hand)

  • i heard Liszt's hands were bigger than Rachmaninov's.

  • But...only hands...big...

  • liszt's hands weren't that big. they just had very little skin between the fingers so he could separate them very wide

  • I saw his hands at Liszt's house in Weimar and they are HUGE... al least, a lot bigger than mine! I actually shaked his hand!!!! :D

  • Liszt was the greatest pianist of all times.

  • grate! what is he playing with orchestra? Glinka?

  • the movie is glinka

  • please tell me , which movie is this , ?

and some other names of movies about composers and music ,

  • "Композитор Глинка"

  • @WikentSh SO....i want to buy the dvd of this film.....how can i buy it??~~

  • @manishbabu The original Russian title was "Compozitor Glinka'. In the USA it was released under the title "Man of Music".

  • he is the most genius pianist of all time.

  • The only enigma is Richter's hilarious wig haha

  • thanks!

  • hey could someone tell me pls. wat he was playing at te beginning

  • Liszt. Transcendental study nr. 9, "La Ricordanza".

  • Many thanks for posting this, I only knew the fragment from Monsaigeon's documentary "Richter, the Enigma", but not the original film. It's great!
