  • WTF? I don't understand why they're saying this is new. This is very old knowledge. We've known about this for well over a hundred years. Just go look at an old medical textbook from the 1950's. It shows all these strange intersex disorders and explains them from a scientific perspective quite well.

    THIS IS NOTHING NEW!!!!

  • @vbritsi but unless this affects you directly, personally, you might be open to accept this. Somone HAVING the feelings of wanting to be the other sex now has science answering the questions they have, and maybe others should listen too.

  • excellent video

  • @ShaggyKyle and @ 4:37 new mail on outlook !

  • @ShaggyKyle

    and @ 3:31 too !

  • @ShaggyKyle

    windows XP !

  • Do women truly want to be treated equal with men? Personally, I think the goal of fairness is fair better than equality. Women-only health clubs are not about gender equality (obviously!), and there are plenty of them around. More public bathrooms for women than men is a good idea, but certainly not equal. And when a married couple hear a strange sound downstairs at night, is there an equal change the women will investigate? I doubt it!

  • @broyomama interesting thought ;)

  • @broyomama Hear hear :D Equality isn't an easy goal to achieve. One gives birth to babies, the other helps, as a crude example of why women and men cannot be treated the same. However, I do think equality can exist to a certain extent. And I think it's when people start thinking it's not men vs. women, but men with women on equal but different platforms. All this squabbling is getting neither sex anywhere.

  • I see now the previous comment by that guy, no doubt he needed to be called out. I am not arguing just trying to state that binary labels lead to dangerous thinking by people with closed minds (not you). My doctors have not said I was simply one or the other in terms of biological sex, and well, I'm happy with that.

  • It's like saying there are only blue or red blocks and those blocks stacked upon eachother are only all blue or all red. The building blocks can match in literally hundreds if not thousands of combinations, which is how variation occurs. Life, while more comforting in terms of black and white and ones and zeroes, isn't quite that simple. I believe the sexes are a spectrum, and 99.99% of people tend towards one end or another. But some do not...

  • Or perhaps gender is -only- a social structure.

  • Very interesting.

  • hamh i really want to find a cool guy who wants to chat with me

  • Does anyone know where I can find the citation/references for this video?

  • Here's what makes me mad, this video was tagged transexual which isn't what this video is about. This is about the intersex, 2 separate things!

  • its a longer documentary and it does go into trans stuff

  • Oy vey.

  • she's beautiful in, an ambiguous way

  • Never menstruated! Lucky!!!

  • parents need to stop thinking that their intersex children are diseased, they need to understand that being intersexed is not wrong, and that no corrective surgery is needed

  • so is that like the physical form of homosexuality as opposed to the more publicized mental state?

  • shes so pretty. im glad she shared her story with the public

  • thats sad that you can't see the rest for free.

  • is women wearing makeup a genetic thing in ur book too huh?

  • wtf r u asking me? it doesnt matter who wears make up, or if any one does at all! for there to be no gender would entail that we can all reproduce Abioticaly, which we kno, is immpossible unles ur a bacteria or a plant. i honestly have no idea were u even came up with that question about make up, its completely irrelevant.

  • you're missing hte point. i'm saying there's a difference between social gender and bodily sex. think about it. are females meant to wear pink and be feminine and vice versa, and all those who are out of that are really "male brains in female bodies" or vice versa? maybe...but i think it's more of a social problem.

  • i conquer, however i was talking about LITERAL sex, like either ur a guy or a girl or some xxy person or whatnot, i was not reffering to social perceptions. i do u see ur point tho, dont think i dont. i just thought u were trying to say that there is no such thing as male or female, in which case...u would be wrong. but w.e it was a miss understanding.

  • i'm glad you understood my point too, and yes, i agree with you on base sex

  • 100 years ago, pink was a boys colour and blue was a girls colour. The colour preference is a social construct.

  • indeed!

  • Actually, though rare, many animals reproduce asexually. Some, like the hydra, produce clonal buds. Or it may occur via parthenogenesis (a form of agamogenesis in which an unfertilized egg develops into a new individual). Parthenogenesis occurs naturally in many insects (such as aphids), and vertebrates (such as some reptiles, amphibians, fish, and, very rarely, birds).

  • Snails are all hermophrodites but a snail cannot impregnate itself. It has to trade sperm with another snail.

  • @jumpsx14 You are an idiot. And not only because you can't spell. Gender and sex are two different things. Gender is mental and social. Sex is physical in terms of chromosomes and asthetics. I don't know how old you are, but if you are older than me (18) then I sure pity your lack of intelligence. There is only two sexs. Woman. And Man. But there are a growing number of genders. So don't act like a pratt.

  • @xXcharleXx I am Intersexed. Chimera. xx/xy genetic Hermaphroditic and even my organs are mixed and matched. There is ambiguity.

  • @starcrafter13terran

I know what intersex is. I said nothing of sex. I simply said gender. Have you ever thought about the possiblilty that in fact gender and sex are completely seperate?

  • @starcrafter13terran Ah. I see the comment you replied to now. Yes, I understand that physical biological differences are ambigious. Depends on how you define physical gender. It was in response to somebody being ignorant. Apologies ^.^

  • hmmm

  • I've seen a case like Kristie's right when I graduated from med school.. she was 15 though and came because she was not having her menses yet.. on examining her.. we discovered the testis in a hernial pouch.. it was an interesting case

  • To the doctor at 3:40; perhaps start looking at people as individuals... Especially since in your profession this is exactly what you're supposed to do...

  • you have to pay to watch the rest.

there are also people that have "gender identity disorder" whereby their gender is different from their biology, it seems these people are not classified as such because xxy is both female and male, and the xy female in this video looks female and didn't know until she was 15

  • for the transcript google for : Read the program transcript for Janine Cohen's report "The Gender Puzzle".

It will take you to the site that has the transcript

  • Actually this video discusses sex, not gender. Gender is a social construction about what it means to be masculine or feminine. That said, however, it does a great job of also saying that sex is also not a simple issue.

  • it does discuss gender, see the whole film

the person who posted this video also posted a link where you can see the whole film

  • The obvious solution is to eliminate sex and gender from government documents, thus having everyone be equal in the eyes of the law. But of course that would undermine the basis for the new caste structures in Australia that legalize discrimination against males.

  • where is the rest?

  • watched part of this vid in my human sexuality class and i found it fascinating. just watched the rest now and i want to know more! a bit strapped for cash at the moment but maybe i'll be able to buy the DVD when i've got a bit more saved up.

helped me understand my own gender identity a bit more.

  • Wow...I havent heard of this befor...as a transexual I find it really interesting...wish the whole program was here thought.....
