~ Sometimes I just sit and listen to this video over and over and over again. Mad skills that I will one day have. (BTW - I'm the guy selling the Electra Tshirts on the Electra forum website. Love your demos! :)t
@TheGrinchesBrother The 'GR' in the model name stands for Graphite, which was a semi-popular finish at SLM in 1983 and 1984 from what I can tell. It turns out to be a Grey metallic color. Sometimes you see people referring to an Olive color too, I'm not sure if that is a different finish, or one of these that has faded from time and exposure to the Elements though... Grey + Yellow = Olive Green??? This one spent 98% of its life in a case, so there is very little fading going on.
we might both agree that Matsumoku was probably the top, as far as production quality, guitar manufacturer at that time in Japan. Thanks for your comments. P.S check out Nobuaki Hayashi. he wasn't a copy guy, he was an innovator
Oh, and electra is Korean. the Japanese made westone is a product of the Matsumoko factory which started this design. The father of this type of bad ass coil tapping/phase shifting was Nobuaki Hayashi , from westone. The westones in this era are truly rare, if anyone was wondering
@sonicpunisher Westone was a Matsumoku House brand before SLM used the name. In 1984 the SLM guitars would have both Electra and Westone on the Headstock, by 1985 they would simply read Westone. Sometime in the mid 80's there was a fire at the Matsumoku factory and all production was moved to Korea afterwards. To my knowledge all the 70's and 80's Electras were made in Japan. According to SLM lore, Tom Presley designed the H/S/H and push/pull setup... but who knows for sure? Cheers!
Great job ! I bought my westone dynasty in 83' while in high school. It was stolen from my house 19 years ago. 6 months ago, that same guitar came into the guitar shop i teach at and got traded for a $ 129.00 strat copy. the store owner knew my story and gave it to me. I rewired it back to factory specs and am still amazed by how good it sounds. Ahead of its time for sure. Really good review
@MultiJeffthomas Looks like you have the Westone version, which has the extra points at the bottom, but otherwise is very similar. Check out the Electra Forums on rivercityamps if you want to see a bunch of us Electra fans...
@wisesatyr72 Electra had a bunch of different guitars with this H/S/H pickup and switch setup, including the StratLyke Phoenix models, check them out, trade with your friends, collect all Eight!!
hi great videos, how long have you been collecting electra's,keep them coming.Any ideas other than ebay where are decent for finding these for sale or are you selling yours?
@overgrowngamer Hello, I only started collecting Electras about three years ago, great bang for the buck. The offerings on eBay are becoming pricey and competitive lately. Most of the music stores are catching on and pricing them steeper now too. CraigsList has some deals, but you'll have to convince the seller to ship, which sometimes is tough or impossible to do. Keep in mind that even the newest Electras are almost 30 years old, go crazy, these are great guitars.
