@herbitualhooper my mom had this surgery done when she was 13 she is now 33 so wherever u got that information it's false tell that person that they need to read up on things before going and telling people things that are not true. Not tryen to sound luck a bitch or anything.
It's 4 months since my daughter Mikayla had her surgery. She had 3 wedges of her vertebrae removed. Her rods are from T2 to L2. She lost 3 l's of blood during surgery and had 2 transfusions. They knicked the dural sack and had to lay flat on her back for 5 days. After this she got to sit up. She did it tuff the first day. Made it home the day before her 13th birthday. She lost alot of weight, but has put some back on since then. She has a beautiful straight spine now and doing most things:)
Thank you soo much for your video! i really needed this! this video made me cry! i got diagnosed with scoliosis when i was 14 and now my spine is just like yours was. i am 18 now and going to have surgery in January. i want to know how well you can move long after surgery? again thank you sooo much for your video! God bless!
@4everblondie17 be brave and be calm.I had mine 30 sept and I'm much better now.why do you look at these?I never touched YT on this theme before surgery in order to maintain my blood super cool.I'm 46 and never had problems or pain till 2010.then everything crumbled and had to find a neurosurgeon with guts to take me to the surgery(there were many more complications).everything's OK now.I WAS WALKING AFTER 36 HOURS!!! 10 DAYS AFTER I STARTED TO SWIM VERY GENTLY,OF COURSE.HAVE FAITH!!!
I had scoliosis surgery in late July, I had a 74 degree curvature. I have just turned 18 and everything has gone perfectly post op. I grew from 5ft 11 to 6ft 2 in the space of six hours. It is very painful and scary surgery but it is very worth it!
I will be 1 year post op. this Wednesday!!! I can't believe my surgery was 1 year ago! I will never forget being so scared. Scoliosis gave my moments when I went home crying from school, and moments when I laugh so hard I pee my pants. =D If I told myself this before my surgery, I wouldn't have believed myself, but scoliosis has helped me view things from a new perspective. If you need surgery and need support, or someone to talk to, contact me. =D please look at my channel =D
I am 13 and getting surgery june 21st. My back is at a 50.7 degrees and it went from 46.5 to 50.7 in three months. I am very scared and getting another xray towards the end of march too see if i need surgery even sooner. This video made me cry a lot because thats gonna happen to me in 7 months or maybe even sooner.
Thank god you came through this and have been an inspiration to others! I had my fusion at the age of 18 back in 2001 and I'm so much better off. To people going through surgery, don't worry, it gets SO much better!!
i had this surgery when i was 13 years old, so six years ago. now i've just started college. the surgery is scary but i just makes your life so much easier after living with scoliosis. you and everyone who has had this experience is amazingly brave and i'm glad your doing well :)
I had 2 vertabrae removed in 1993 and all pinned up with scoliosis and spinabifida. I am still playing cricket & squash at 33 so, if you are having an operation, or suffering with spinal issues, stay positive!!
In 1971, I had scoliosis surgery to correct a very rapidly developing curvature. The Harrington rod technology was brand-new, requiring 3 months recovery flat in bed encased in a 25 pound plaster cast. I then had to learn to walk all over again and spent an additional 9 months in a 20 pound "walking" cast. Your finished result is beautiful...nearly perfect. Mine, however, still looks much like your "before" pics. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Will it hurt? Definitely. But that passes quickly.
Thank you for sharing your journey! We are about to go through this with my daughter. If you have any advice or could just talk to her about what to expect I would appreciate it. Her email is haleighryberg@yahoo.com
Thank you again for sharing...God Bless and I hope you are doing well.
@Fireproofretz thank you my surgery went amazing i was out of the hospital in 4 days and i feel way better now its only been a lil over 3 weeks but im back to running and dancing and even thou i do have my bad days i think it was a great thing to get done thank you
@ibrooketina when they brought me to the ok and were i getting my anesthetic was for me the scariest moment, your life has been in the hands of the surgeons for a while so you hoped that nothing goes wrong. It's a difficult and heavy surgery. Sitting and turning was the most painfull part, every day a couple of times the nurses turn me on my side for 5-10 minutes. It was terrible and it hurts very much. If you're getting a Scoliosis surgery, very luck it's all worth it! XOXO from the Netherlands
i also have scoliosis i needed to have surgery at 4 years old now i am 13 and i had a 92 angle but now i am much better thanks to god ! this may sound kind of strange but we should pray to god everyday and thank him that we are alive.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience Torie! My daughter is turning 13 next month and has been booked in for this surgery 10 days before her birthday. She is scared....and so am I. This video is helping me to know what to expect. Thank you so much sweetie! God Speed and Love to you xx
ive had this opperation guys.. exactly the same, same story so if anyone needs to ask me anything you can email me too <3 Im happy help xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi hun! Any surgery has risks, but from all the cases that I've heard about since finding about my daughter, have all been positive. This is not just in Australia, but all over the world. Good luck with your surgery hun. My daughter has hers 15th August. Take care, stay strong xx
Torie, my cousin has had this surgery this month. I am too far away to be able to visit her right now. I want to thank you for posting this video so i can see what she has, and is, going through. You look wonderful and i am sure that she does too!
@toxicgeorgia1 same ;( im sooo scared im crying just thinking about it. people in school make fun of me cos of my back so at the same time i am happy.
We are lucky that my daughter has a great support network of friends at school. Take care sweetie. It's a very scary procedure, but think of the future.. love and light to you xx
Go to facebook. I found lots of great friends that I have never met, and they are all so wonderful and supportive. Don't just add anyone and everyone though! Find people that are positive. xx You could add me if you like, but not sure how to give my details without putting on here.
I had my scoliosis corrected in 2005; I was 15. I had two 44* curves in my spine. I went in to hospital on the 10th Oct, had the op on the 11th and was out on the 19th; the day before my birthday. I had a further 3 months off from school. My back hurt a lot but I was never scared - it never hit me until a month or so after the op. I'm so glad I had it done though, the best decision of my life. I've had no problems since, if anything it's made me stronger and more determined in life.
my name is kris and i also have scoliosis. my parents dont want to send me for surgery because my dad had an op a few months back and now we dont have enough money to send me for the surgery. i have no idea what my degree is because i was diagnosed with it 4 years ago but stopped seeing the doc 2 years ago.i really wanna go for the op to correct my spine but due to financial issues i cant ): so all i wanna ask is, how painful is it?
Try writing to UN to see if you can be counted for overseas help. You should not have to wait. I understand the problem with the money side of things, as we too have none. We are very blessed here in Australia to have a wonderful hospital system that costs us nothing to attend. My 13 yo daughter has her surgery on 15th August. I pray that you find a way to have yours soon xx
@tigger69951010 hey taylor. I was your age when I had mine done. Tips: try and be calm, the surgery hurts but pays off in the long run. You'll spend a week in the hospital, so anything that can keep your entertained is good (books, games) You'll be bed ridden a couple of days, and have little appetite. Don't try and walk right away, but sit up a little and takes small strides with a walker after a day or two. Hope this helps, I'll pray for you. I am no 27 and healthy. Back still hurts but ok
Hi my name is Amie and I'm 14. I was diagnosed at 11 and I have a 53 d bend. I am going into surgery in 2 days. I am soooooo nervous. Your video helped me ALOT !!! Hugs and kisses, Amie
i just had the surgery on May 25th n it took about 7 hours to correct a 60* degree curve. the surgery is not tht bad. honestly, the worst part is being in the hospital. they fixed my curve to about 20 deg. they did 0 at first, but my nerves couldnt handle it n i wouldve been paralyzed from the waist down. Thank God i wasnt! make sure u tell ur surgeon tht. n if the insurance covers it, ask for a neuro surgeon to avoid risk of paralysis n a plastic surgeon to stitch u up so it looks better :)
My besti had scolios surgery a couple of months ago...she missed alot of skool nd i missed her...my other best and teacher suprised her after skool at her house and she waz so happy...... i cant say that i know how it feels to hav it cuz i dont but one thing i can say iz dat i kno how it feels to help a friend who haz it! :-)
Anyway, nice to meet u all, feel free to add me, my MSN address is "tricia.baby811@hotmail.com", even guy or girl who r had scoliosis, welcome always...

Hi Torie, great video. I just had the surgery on May 2nd 2011 and I watched this video before I had the surgery. It was very helpful because you don't really know what to expect until after it happens so sometimes its a little scary. You are very brave.
and to everyone else, the thing that kept me strong was my family. They were there to support me through all of my pre-op appointments and made the journey much easier. Embrace this as a journey and stay positive you all can do it!
hi torie! i also have scoliosis. i started bracing about 10 months ago. but even with the brace, its still growing pretty fast. at my last appointment, my curve went from 33 degrees to 46 degrees. my doctor didnt even recomend surgery he just wants to continure bracing, but in a way i kind of want the surgery. so my question for your is, was the surgery worth it? how bad is the pain afterwards? should i try to get the surgery? is there any advice you could give me?
i also have scoliosis too, and in the next few weeks i'll be doing the blood draw test yikes im kinda scared to the surgery altho i know its gonna be worth it. but ey the scar doesnt disappear right? ergh its sucks how we good pple got to have back health problems. - tiff.
I had my scoliosis operation about 18months ago- i watched this video before i had it and it was so helpful. If anyone has any questions about having the operation/ the recovery etc I'd love to help :) Feel free to email me: emily-wall@hotmail.co.uk :)
@RobotPart hi, i had surgery 4 scoliosis twice in 2007 and 2008, the scar 4 d 1st 1 is stil a lil visible, and 4 d 2nd its stil a lot visible cos i was 1 of d unlucky few dat got infected afterwards, i love my scars cos it reminds me of what ive overcome, dont worry bout any scarrin, make sure u get d best results and live life 2 da fullest, all the best 4 d future :)
omg this kinda scares me because today my doctor told me i look like i might have scoliosis i always noticed something was kinda wrong because i always bend to my side when sitting. Though you had alot of support so it might not seem as scary when you have your family : 3
Can someone please answer a few of my questions here?
I have an S. It is 58• and 49• or around there. I have to get surgery. I'm absoulotultley terrified. Tell me the hard core truth, what does it feel like when you first wake up?
Also can you ride roller coasters?
Were you constipated? (random, and gross but I hear a lot of people are?)
When could you wear regular clothes?
Did you halousinate things when you woke up?? Please answer, I'm having surgery in June!! :)
Lemme guess, you have marphan?? My sister has marphan syndrome and had to get a brace, halo, and last but not least surgery like you for her skoliosis. Not to include her heart surgery or collapsed lung.
I'm going to have same surgery. 20 April. First, when i heard that i have to go to that surgery my reaction was something like "Ah, whatever". But now im pretty nervous.
ive been through this surgery 1 and a half years ago. i have a half titanium rod on the top half of my back. and now i am able to do anything without it hurting. i know what you went through... the only thing with me, was i was up and walking the 3rd day. but i loved the company and i enjoyed people being there for me. and of course the WIFI ;] i was in All Childrens Hospital. i just thought i would share this with you ;) i hope your still doing well.
@kanatapaw thanks its good to hear i have luck lol! i am sure everything is gonna be fine i hope your goes good too muchh mucuch! love!! what else do you have :(?
My daughter is 11 and having this surgery very soon. If anyone can contact me with support or advice or whatever, please do so! We're scared but optimistic and it's nice to know there are others out there who are going through it/have gone through it and are okay.
i have scoliosis but i did not want to get sugery until know when i saw this video you were brave torie and you encouraged me to want this sugery it looks like a rough surgery but hopefully i can be as brave and as stong as you were.
Hi Torie, your very pretty and brave girl.I really admire you.Even my daughter have scoliosis, about 44 degrees curvature of spine...we were hoping for a surgery this coming summer vacation but were still looking for financial assistance because we unlike your family we cant afford the surgery but were still hoping that's why were doing everything to sick help at PCSO. I hope my princess will be straight as you in Gods will everything will be ok.
@babynicoleish Nothing about scoliosis is cheap. I strongly encourage you to check out CLEAR Institute before subjecting your daughter to this surgery. They specialize in reducing scoliosis without bracing or surgery. I had a 67degree curve which is now 51degrees, and a 50degree curve which is now 36degrees and still getting better! No hospital, no rods, no recovery. If there's not a doctor near you, you can do an intensive treatment and continue your exercises at home.
My big sister had/has scoliosis too...She just had her surgery. Shes got out of the hospital in 7days!! Normally they get out in 14 day or a month! she has a strong will!!
Hi! I just had my scoliosis surgery a week ago and now it's still a little painful but don't worry there's pills to take(: I will make a video documentary of my surgery just like hers! I would love to help everyone who will have this surgery.... message me or comment on my channel and i will answer it,,, my curve was 61 and now i'm straight! Gud Luck and God Bless everyonee!!! (: <333
my daughter, marissa is having surgery sometime in march, and would like if you could talk with her. I think it will help her very much. email-mortiz0337@yahoo.com
Heey Toriee ( : thnks for this : D but im havng my surgery in april and im not handelng it very well : ( do u thnk u cud help me with some self suport ?
@Dearvlaa I was told I needed this surgery and that there were "no other options" but it's not true!! Check out CLEAR Institute before committing to the surgery. They specialize in reducing scoliosis without bracing or surgery. I have taken 16 degrees off my thoracic curve and 14 degrees off my lumbar curve. My back pain is greatly reduced and my ribs are no longer pushing into my lung! Please try it out before you put rods in your spine!
I had 14 screws on my back , my curve was 52 degrees, i visited the doctor today and he told me my degrees was a single digit , not sure the accurate one though , will be seeing my surgeon in 6 weeks to see the accurate results :)

Yay!! lol anywayz... thanx again :)
As long as you believe and keep believing he wont let you down. Even if you don't he is there knocking. Scoliosis is a surgery that is a tough one. I spent 14 hours in surgery, and was only 11 at the time. I'm now twenty one, and have two beautiful nieces and three handsome nephews that I was blessed to see born. Happy and healthy. For those that are going through it. Please keep faith in the Lord above he does know what he is doing after all.
is it scary? i am quite scared about scoliosis because i had check today and he said that my chicken bones arent even well. im scared was surgery scary?
@Gameswars3911 It's been ten years since my scoliosis surgery. I had a 90 degree angle, and I was only 11 when it was found. I can tell you as long as you are in good hands, and have faith in God. Everything is possible. Hope and Pray for the good. I will be praying for you. You will make it through I know it.
It's okay for it to be scary, and it's okay to worry. But you will do fine. Just keep your faith in God. He wont let you down ever.
Can anyone share their experience with the catheter? How was it like? I don't remember using the catheter, but i remembered that ONE second they took it off, cuz it hurt quite a bit... they probably didn't do a gd job there cuz it hurt when i urinated and there was blood in it, like 4 days later! ( Surprisingly, it didn't happen when i was in diapers, but only when i tried to urinate on the toilet bowl 4 days later!)
@LSY1995 Hi! I just had surgery 6 days ago! My shoulder blade hurts too! The 6 days in hospital felt like 6 years, but i'm glad im home now! Mine was keyhole and i had only 1 rod and 7 screws!
@LSY1995 Wow that's a relief! Mine still hurts, it's quite mild in the day, but quite painful in the night! Your's was keyhole or the open back surgery? Do u have a ny advice on sleeping posture? Sleeping on the back the whole night makes me sore!
@LSY1995 Hmm does it still hurt to sleep on your side? Great to hear it gets better and better! I threw up twice on the 4th day, cuz they forced me to take panadol in liquid form after the morphine was taken off! Hahaa did you have to remove the stiches?

@Sisiyingying Yeh, I had a catheter...I didn't even know in the beginning. It only hurt when they took it off for a few seconds, I had no pain when I urinated @ lavatory.
They took it off like...yeh..4 days later I think.
this video really made me cry i don't have that but seeing people that want to live give what they have but other people having the chance to live very well they rather die or do bad things
Hey kid, how you doing now? I had this surgery when I was 12, after being diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 4. That was 5yrs ago..not doing too badly now. Its horrific for a while I know but you get through it :)

@justlaughbabez123x i just made my scoliosis 3 days ago in malta i am feeling brand new big huge thanks to all the doctors out there thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@justlaughbabez123x Hi i just had mine about 8 days ago! Well, they do nth much pre-op, it's only blood test and X ray for me. When i first woke up, it was the evening of 2nd day, cuz i was in ICU since after the op. The only thing i remember that evening was my father feeding me sweet cherries, and then i went back to sleep. There really isn't much pain, until you start sitting up and walking. That's when you get sore and giddy... all over in 6 days! I did keyhole method, though...Gd Luck! XD
m 9 and i had a brace for 3 years i had 2 different types of braces i had a metal one that went up to my neck and i had a plasta one that just went aroung my stomac. but november 5 2009 i had surgery and i was really scared. when i woke up my mum had 4 eyes 2 mouths and much more. my back was on a 56 degree angle but after surgery it was on a 10 degree. but now its time for surgery again. i might post a video up if i do it will be called aleshia's scholiosis
@beccapxxx Hi i had a chest tube! I had my op 8 days ago, and did the keyhole method... they had to deflat one lung, then i went into ICU, hence the chest tube. Well, i guess you had the op around the same time as me? How are you now? Great to know you! Mine was on the 6th of Dec! Yours?
Wow...Thank you for sharing this wonderful message! I am having the same surgery in two months and am trying to trust in God for His provisions throughout the process.
wow that has brougght tears 2 my eyes! my daughter was diagnosed with it a mth ago and i have been told she nedds op nxt yr. she is 12yrs old. i am still in shock. well done u for doing this video

What is the scariest and most painful part of the entire surgery?
ibrooketina 6 months ago
@ibrooketina when they brought me to the ok and were i getting my anesthetic was for me the scariest moment, your life has been in the hands of the surgeons for a while so you hoped that nothing goes wrong. It's a difficult and heavy surgery. Sitting and turning was the most painfull part, every day a couple of times the nurses turn me on my side for 5-10 minutes. It was terrible and it hurts very much. If you're getting a Scoliosis surgery, very luck it's all worth it! XOXO from the Netherlands

I've had no problems since, if anything it's made me stronger and more determined in life.

my name is kris and i also have scoliosis. my parents dont want to send me for surgery because my dad had an op a few months back and now we dont have enough money to send me for the surgery. i have no idea what my degree is because i was diagnosed with it 4 years ago but stopped seeing the doc 2 years ago.i really wanna go for the op to correct my spine but due to financial issues i cant ): so all i wanna ask is, how painful is it?
xNetherworldx 7 months ago
@xNetherworldx
I pray that you find a way to have yours soon xx

tigger69951010 7 months ago
@tigger69951010 hey taylor. I was your age when I had mine done. Tips: try and be calm, the surgery hurts but pays off in the long run. You'll spend a week in the hospital, so anything that can keep your entertained is good (books, games) You'll be bed ridden a couple of days, and have little appetite. Don't try and walk right away, but sit up a little and takes small strides with a walker after a day or two. Hope this helps, I'll pray for you. I am no 27 and healthy. Back still hurts but ok

i just had the surgery on May 25th n it took about 7 hours to correct a 60* degree curve. the surgery is not tht bad. honestly, the worst part is being in the hospital. they fixed my curve to about 20 deg. they did 0 at first, but my nerves couldnt handle it n i wouldve been paralyzed from the waist down. Thank God i wasnt! make sure u tell ur surgeon tht. n if the insurance covers it, ask for a neuro surgeon to avoid risk of paralysis n a plastic surgeon to stitch u up so it looks better :)

Embrace this as a journey and stay positive you all can do it!

hi torie! i also have scoliosis. i started bracing about 10 months ago. but even with the brace, its still growing pretty fast. at my last appointment, my curve went from 33 degrees to 46 degrees. my doctor didnt even recomend surgery he just wants to continure bracing, but in a way i kind of want the surgery. so my question for your is, was the surgery worth it? how bad is the pain afterwards? should i try to get the surgery? is there any advice you could give me?
thanks so much!

I have an S. It is 58• and 49• or around there. I have to get surgery. I'm absoulotultley terrified. Tell me the hard core truth, what does it feel like when you first wake up?
Also can you ride roller coasters?

When could you wear regular clothes?
Did you halousinate things when you woke up?? Please answer, I'm having surgery in June!! :)

@Dearvlaa I was told I needed this surgery and that there were "no other options" but it's not true!! Check out CLEAR Institute before committing to the surgery. My back pain is greatly reduced and my ribs are no longer pushing into my lung! Please try it out before you put rods in your spine!

Gameswars3911 1 year ago
@Gameswars3911 It's been ten years since my scoliosis surgery. I had a 90 degree angle, and I was only 11 when it was found. I can tell you as long as you are in good hands, and have faith in God. Everything is possible. Hope and Pray for the good. I will be praying for you. You will make it through I know it.
It's okay for it to be scary, and it's okay to worry. But you will do fine. Just keep your faith in God. He wont let you down ever.

Can anyone share their experience with the catheter? How was it like? @justlaughbabez123x Hi i just had mine about 8 days ago! Well, they do nth much pre-op, it's only blood test and X ray for me. When i first woke up, it was the evening of 2nd day, cuz i was in ICU since after the op. The only thing i remember that evening was my father feeding me sweet cherries, and then i went back to sleep. There really isn't much pain, until you start sitting up and walking. That's when you get sore and giddy... all over in 6 days! I did keyhole method, though...Gd Luck! XD

Yours?
