  • @herbitualhooper my mom had this surgery done when she was 13 she is now 33 so wherever u got that information it's false tell that person that they need to read up on things before going and telling people things that are not true. Not tryen to sound luck a bitch or anything.

  • It's 4 months since my daughter Mikayla had her surgery. She had 3 wedges of her vertebrae removed. Her rods are from T2 to L2. She lost 3 l's of blood during surgery and had 2 transfusions. They knicked the dural sack and had to lay flat on her back for 5 days. After this she got to sit up. She did it tuff the first day. Made it home the day before her 13th birthday. She lost alot of weight, but has put some back on since then. She has a beautiful straight spine now and doing most things:)

  • I heard that this surgery is bad. I heard the rods they put in your spine corrode in years and youre to be cripple in 16 years. :{

  • I'm having the surgery in 6 days dose it really hurt when you start walking

  • I'm having the surgery in 6 days and was wondering dose it hurt a lot

  • Thank you soo much for your video! i really needed this! this video made me cry! i got diagnosed with scoliosis when i was 14 and now my spine is just like yours was. i am 18 now and going to have surgery in January. i want to know how well you can move long after surgery? again thank you sooo much for your video! God bless!

  • @4everblondie17 be brave and be calm.I had mine 30 sept and I'm much better now.why do you look at these?I never touched YT on this theme before surgery in order to maintain my blood super cool.I'm 46 and never had problems or pain till 2010.then everything crumbled and had to find a neurosurgeon with guts to take me to the surgery(there were many more complications).everything's OK now.I WAS WALKING AFTER 36 HOURS!!! 10 DAYS AFTER I STARTED TO SWIM VERY GENTLY,OF COURSE.HAVE FAITH!!!

  • I had scoliosis surgery in late July, I had a 74 degree curvature. I have just turned 18 and everything has gone perfectly post op. I grew from 5ft 11 to 6ft 2 in the space of six hours. It is very painful and scary surgery but it is very worth it!

  • I will be 1 year post op. this Wednesday!!! I can't believe my surgery was 1 year ago! I will never forget being so scared. Scoliosis gave my moments when I went home crying from school, and moments when I laugh so hard I pee my pants. =D If I told myself this before my surgery, I wouldn't have believed myself, but scoliosis has helped me view things from a new perspective. If you need surgery and need support, or someone to talk to, contact me. =D please look at my channel =D

  • @SquigglyBuddies14 can you still move with the rods in your back

  • @starznmoonz1 yes, i can even touch my toes! believe it or not, i could not touch my toes before surgery.

  • @SquigglyBuddies14 ok good cuz i was worried about that

  • I am 13 and getting surgery june 21st. My back is at a 50.7 degrees and it went from 46.5 to 50.7 in three months. I am very scared and getting another xray towards the end of march too see if i need surgery even sooner. This video made me cry a lot because thats gonna happen to me in 7 months or maybe even sooner.

  • my surgery is tomorrow and this video made me cry.

  • Thank god you came through this and have been an inspiration to others! I had my fusion at the age of 18 back in 2001 and I'm so much better off. To people going through surgery, don't worry, it gets SO much better!!

  • Not fucking looking forward to my surgery I'm really scared lol its next wednesday

  • i fucking hate scoliosis.... and chiari malformation! double dose of pain:(

  • i had this surgery when i was 13 years old, so six years ago. now i've just started college. the surgery is scary but i just makes your life so much easier after living with scoliosis. you and everyone who has had this experience is amazingly brave and i'm glad your doing well :)

  • I had 2 vertabrae removed in 1993 and all pinned up with scoliosis and spinabifida. I am still playing cricket & squash at 33 so, if you are having an operation, or suffering with spinal issues, stay positive!!

  • In 1971, I had scoliosis surgery to correct a very rapidly developing curvature. The Harrington rod technology was brand-new, requiring 3 months recovery flat in bed encased in a 25 pound plaster cast. I then had to learn to walk all over again and spent an additional 9 months in a 20 pound "walking" cast. Your finished result is beautiful...nearly perfect. Mine, however, still looks much like your "before" pics. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Will it hurt? Definitely. But that passes quickly.

  • Was this surgery painful?

  • Thank you for sharing your journey! We are about to go through this with my daughter. If you have any advice or could just talk to her about what to expect I would appreciate it. Her email is haleighryberg@yahoo.com

Thank you again for sharing...God Bless and I hope you are doing well.

  • My name is Tori, and I have Scoliosis too...

  • @Fireproofretz thank you my surgery went amazing i was out of the hospital in 4 days and i feel way better now its only been a lil over 3 weeks but im back to running and dancing and even thou i do have my bad days i think it was a great thing to get done thank you

  • What is the scariest and most painful part of the entire surgery?

  • @ibrooketina when they brought me to the ok and were i getting my anesthetic was for me the scariest moment, your life has been in the hands of the surgeons for a while so you hoped that nothing goes wrong. It's a difficult and heavy surgery. Sitting and turning was the most painfull part, every day a couple of times the nurses turn me on my side for 5-10 minutes. It was terrible and it hurts very much. If you're getting a Scoliosis surgery, very luck it's all worth it! XOXO from the Netherlands

  • i also have scoliosis i needed to have surgery at 4 years old now i am 13 and i had a 92 angle but now i am much better thanks to god ! this may sound kind of strange but we should pray to god everyday and thank him that we are alive.

  • Thanks so much for sharing your experience Torie! My daughter is turning 13 next month and has been booked in for this surgery 10 days before her birthday. She is scared....and so am I. This video is helping me to know what to expect. Thank you so much sweetie! God Speed and Love to you xx

  • im getting scoliosis surgery soon and im so scared that i cry sometimes... can anything really bad happen during surgery?

  • @swimmygurl1

Hi hun! Any surgery has risks, but from all the cases that I've heard about since finding about my daughter, have all been positive. This is not just in Australia, but all over the world. Good luck with your surgery hun. My daughter has hers 15th August. Take care, stay strong xx

  • Torie, my cousin has had this surgery this month. I am too far away to be able to visit her right now. I want to thank you for posting this video so i can see what she has, and is, going through. You look wonderful and i am sure that she does too!

Thank you so much for sharing.

  • @The68Garfield Thank you i only have a Few friends that support me./<3

  • @pleasentjada70

Go to facebook. I found lots of great friends that I have never met, and they are all so wonderful and supportive. Don't just add anyone and everyone though! Find people that are positive. xx You could add me if you like, but not sure how to give my details without putting on here.

  • I had my scoliosis corrected in 2005; I was 15. I had two 44* curves in my spine. I went in to hospital on the 10th Oct, had the op on the 11th and was out on the 19th; the day before my birthday. I had a further 3 months off from school. My back hurt a lot but I was never scared - it never hit me until a month or so after the op. I'm so glad I had it done though, the best decision of my life. I've had no problems since, if anything it's made me stronger and more determined in life.

  • I have a 45* curve

Not sure if theyre gonna operate yet, might find out next month

  • my name is kris and i also have scoliosis. my parents dont want to send me for surgery because my dad had an op a few months back and now we dont have enough money to send me for the surgery. i have no idea what my degree is because i was diagnosed with it 4 years ago but stopped seeing the doc 2 years ago.i really wanna go for the op to correct my spine but due to financial issues i cant ): so all i wanna ask is, how painful is it?

  • @xNetherworldx

Try writing to UN to see if you can be counted for overseas help. You should not have to wait. I understand the problem with the money side of things, as we too have none. We are very blessed here in Australia to have a wonderful hospital system that costs us nothing to attend. My 13 yo daughter has her surgery on 15th August. I pray that you find a way to have yours soon xx

  • hello my name is taylor and im going in tomorrow for pre op and im honestly scared to death im 16 but this is so crazy i hate it any tips anyone

  • @tigger69951010 hey taylor. I was your age when I had mine done. Tips: try and be calm, the surgery hurts but pays off in the long run. You'll spend a week in the hospital, so anything that can keep your entertained is good (books, games) You'll be bed ridden a couple of days, and have little appetite. Don't try and walk right away, but sit up a little and takes small strides with a walker after a day or two. Hope this helps, I'll pray for you. I am no 27 and healthy. Back still hurts but ok

  • Hi my name is Amie and I'm 14. I was diagnosed at 11 and I have a 53 d bend. I am going into surgery in 2 days. I am soooooo nervous. Your video helped me ALOT !!! Hugs and kisses, Amie

  • i just had the surgery on May 25th n it took about 7 hours to correct a 60* degree curve. the surgery is not tht bad. honestly, the worst part is being in the hospital. they fixed my curve to about 20 deg. they did 0 at first, but my nerves couldnt handle it n i wouldve been paralyzed from the waist down. Thank God i wasnt! make sure u tell ur surgeon tht. n if the insurance covers it, ask for a neuro surgeon to avoid risk of paralysis n a plastic surgeon to stitch u up so it looks better :)

  • Hi Torie, great video. I just had the surgery on May 2nd 2011 and I watched this video before I had the surgery. It was very helpful because you don't really know what to expect until after it happens so sometimes its a little scary. You are very brave.

and to everyone else, the thing that kept me strong was my family. They were there to support me through all of my pre-op appointments and made the journey much easier. Embrace this as a journey and stay positive you all can do it!

  • hi torie! i also have scoliosis. i started bracing about 10 months ago. but even with the brace, its still growing pretty fast. at my last appointment, my curve went from 33 degrees to 46 degrees. my doctor didnt even recomend surgery he just wants to continure bracing, but in a way i kind of want the surgery. so my question for your is, was the surgery worth it? how bad is the pain afterwards? should i try to get the surgery? is there any advice you could give me?

    thanks so much!

  • Very touchy..... brought tears in my eyes..... i have my daughter who has it and looking for surgery soon...... please pray for her

  • omg this kinda scares me because today my doctor told me i look like i might have scoliosis i always noticed something was kinda wrong because i always bend to my side when sitting. Though you had alot of support so it might not seem as scary when you have your family : 3

  • nobody here likes the 6 people who dislike this. why don't you just go watch some other video and get a life please.

  • @babynicoleish Nothing about scoliosis is cheap. I strongly encourage you to check out CLEAR Institute before subjecting your daughter to this surgery. They specialize in reducing scoliosis without bracing or surgery. I had a 67degree curve which is now 51degrees, and a 50degree curve which is now 36degrees and still getting better! No hospital, no rods, no recovery. If there's not a doctor near you, you can do an intensive treatment and continue your exercises at home.

They specialize in reducing scoliosis without bracing or surgery. I have taken 16 degrees off my thoracic curve and 14 degrees off my lumbar curve. My back pain is greatly reduced and my ribs are no longer pushing into my lung! Please try it out before you put rods in your spine!

  • hi guys! I be going for a surgery in less than 6 hours!

  • @HeartslikeMagnets HI how r u now?

  • As long as you believe and keep believing he wont let you down. Even if you don't he is there knocking. Scoliosis is a surgery that is a tough one. I spent 14 hours in surgery, and was only 11 at the time. I'm now twenty one, and have two beautiful nieces and three handsome nephews that I was blessed to see born. Happy and healthy. For those that are going through it. Please keep faith in the Lord above he does know what he is doing after all.

  • @NothingLastsForever0 Thank you for telling me that :)

  • @NothingLastsForever0 I had the same surgery! It hurts very very bad!

  • @milkchocolate0808

It does hurt badly for the first month or so. Depends on what kind of pain tolerance you have. <3 But it is worth it in the end.. it truly is.

  • is it scary? i am quite scared about scoliosis because i had check today and he said that my chicken bones arent even well. im scared was surgery scary?

  • @Gameswars3911 It's been ten years since my scoliosis surgery. I had a 90 degree angle, and I was only 11 when it was found. I can tell you as long as you are in good hands, and have faith in God. Everything is possible. Hope and Pray for the good. I will be praying for you. You will make it through I know it.

It's okay for it to be scary, and it's okay to worry. But you will do fine. Just keep your faith in God. He wont let you down ever.

  • wait was that a good comment or not i cant remember what i put

  • HI EVERYONE! I will be putting up a video of my surgery on youtube soon! I had mine 8 days ago!

  • whoa, they diagnosed it like 1,5 year ago and had surgery 3 weeks ago.

Now I'm home and my shoulderblade hurts all the time. Staying in the hospital for one week was hell. I'm glad the surgery went well ,

  • @LSY1995 Hi! I just had surgery 6 days ago! My shoulder blade hurts too! The 6 days in hospital felt like 6 years, but i'm glad im home now! Mine was keyhole and i had only 1 rod and 7 screws!

  • @Sisiyingying My shoulderblade doesn´t hurt anymore -thankgod- :'D and I've no idea how many rods/screws I have, didn't ask for it ;S

  • @LSY1995 Wow that's a relief! Mine still hurts, it's quite mild in the day, but quite painful in the night! Your's was keyhole or the open back surgery? Do u have a ny advice on sleeping posture? Sleeping on the back the whole night makes me sore!

  • @Sisiyingying Open back surgery. I tried to sleep on my side like , it goes better and better, but I can't give you any other advice, sorry :\

My week kinda went like Torie's week ;D, but I was throwing up for like 2 days. I ate and it came out a few mins later. <.< Oh well.

  • @LSY1995 Hmm does it still hurt to sleep on your side? Great to hear it gets better and better! I threw up twice on the 4th day, cuz they forced me to take panadol in liquid form after the morphine was taken off! Hahaa did you have to remove the stiches?

  • @Sisiyingying Well, no, it doesn;t hurt anymore. And i didn't have to remove the stitches...I think lol.

  • @LSY1995 That's really really great news! Thanks a lot! My sleep is getting better now XD

  • @Sisiyingying Gee lol.....I didn't sleep at all last night XD...

  • @LSY1995 Hahaa

  • @LSY1995 lol

  • @LSY1995 Hi, did u have a catheter? How was it like for you? I don't remember using the catheter, but i remembered that ONE second they took it off, cuz it hurt quite a bit... they probably didn't do a gd job there cuz it hurt when i urinated and there was blood in it, like 4 days later! ( Surprisingly, it didn't happen when i was in diapers, but only when i tried to urinate on the toilet bowl 4 days later!)

  • @Sisiyingying Yeh, I had a catheter...I didn't even know in the beginning. It only hurt when they took it off for a few seconds, I had no pain when I urinated @ lavatory.

They took it off like...yeh..4 days later I think.

  • this video really made me cry i don't have that but seeing people that want to live give what they have but other people having the chance to live very well they rather die or do bad things

  • @AdrienneNicole1995 thanx :) i am not as freaked out as b4 just wish i knew what i would be going through and little tips to help, more info! a member of my family works at my high school and she told my head of yr and now they r making me go to a school counciler! its not so bad but the worst thing! but it makes me feel kinda not normal :/ ...when u go for ur pre op, the blood tests and things, what exactly do u do and when u had just woke up from the surgery wat is it like?? thanx :)

  • @justlaughbabez123x Hi i just had mine about 8 days ago! Well, they do nth much pre-op, it's only blood test and X ray for me. When i first woke up, it was the evening of 2nd day, cuz i was in ICU since after the op. The only thing i remember that evening was my father feeding me sweet cherries, and then i went back to sleep. There really isn't much pain, until you start sitting up and walking. That's when you get sore and giddy... all over in 6 days! I did keyhole method, though...Gd Luck! XD

  • i have a Scoliosis too but its not nearly that bad. im glad everything worked out for you

  • @beccapxxx Hi i had a chest tube! I had my op 8 days ago, and did the keyhole method... they had to deflat one lung, then i went into ICU, hence the chest tube. Well, i guess you had the op around the same time as me? How are you now? Great to know you! Mine was on the 6th of Dec! Yours?
