I'm confused.... isn't sodium supposed to be harmful and isn't chlorine also supposed to be harmful? but when they are joined they're not harmful? If they are separated in water, doesn't mean that drinking this would be harmful?
Chlorine is not toxic in the sense that mercury is. Elemental chlorine is only toxic due to the fact that is is a strong oxidizing agent and causing fluid to build up in the lungs. In the form of sodium chloride the chlorine is less reactive making it non toxic
