I was just web surfing looking for Japanese zombie films that I have not yet seen and I saw your piece of internet turf and decided to stop by. Wonderful reviews! Now I have to go look for Wild Zero! While I love all things zombie and I watch a lot of films from around the world, you know a lot about the culture. I appreciate your knowledge, I am checking out your blog! Rock on!
Btw, my own two fave Japanese zombie flicks are "Junk" and "Wild Zero". xD. Apart from "Wild Zero" being cool I also just love Guitar Wolf and their music. They were also in another (American) film called "The Sore Losers" in which Jack Oblivian (from the old garage-rock band The Oblivians) plays a dead hitman from the 50s who arrives on Earth (via spaceship) to do one last hit so he can finally lay his soul to rest. LOL. It's pretty cool.
@GyntherMeyer I agree with you on Guitar Wolf but not on Junk...I posted a review of it on my blog a while back. I haven't seen 'The Sore Losers' but I will definitely find it now.
On a side note, I initially misspelled 'The Sore Losers' as 'The Sore Lovers.' Now that would be an intriguing film...
Hey Constantine, I've followed your videos for a while now and they just keep getting better. Can I be chairman of your fan club? LOL. Oh, and I've been into horror movies for longer than I care to remember (seriously, haha) and you're right; "Japanese Girl Swim team against zombies" (or whatever) is total crap. And not even so bad it's good. Just crap, haha.
@GyntherMeyer Thanks for tolerating the sporadic video posts! I think that being chairman of my fan club would be a lonely job...the club would consist of you and my...errr, no one else comes to mind actually... =P
Yup, Attack Girls blah blah doesn't fall into the 'so bad it's good category' (some of the other films do though) it's just bad. BAD. BAD!
@NonStoptoTokyo Dear Constantine, what's going on? I'm having a hard time explaining to the fan club members why you're not posting new videos. Hope you're well and all!
Tokyo Zombie is pretty decent. Versus was awful and I do not understand all the hype (I even watched it twice because I assumed it was just me the first time). The only other Japanese Zombie movie I've seen is JUNK and it's about as good as the title suggests. I give up on J-Zombie films! Although Yoshihiro Nishimura's upcoming Helldriver could be really badass.
@martyrofevil Well, Japanese zombie movies are really a genre in and of themselves...and they definitely aren't for everyone. While I have a love of zombie movies, very few zombie movies have actually made it onto my list of Favorite Movies of All Time, including some of the ones I've mentioned here. So I can see why you might not like Versus...it's a cult classic for a reason - it appeals to a very small niche market! =P
@NonStoptoTokyo But what bothers me is that I am usually that very small niche market. I like the Tokyo Gore Police genre that's exploded recently. I liked some of the really grimy j-horror movies like Evil Dead Trap and even some of the Guinea Pig series but goddamn it JUNK ruined Japanese Zombie films for me.
id love to see the chapter of world war z by max brooks with the otaku who networking social life accidently gets him trapped in the middle of the zombie apocalypse

I see these japanese action/horror movies as comedy, like machine girl!
it's always about awesome killing moves and lots of blood, literally spraying all over the place.
Lolismad 1 year ago
@Lolismad I completely agree, it's definitely a 'comedy' genre!
NonStoptoTokyo 1 year ago
The genre isn't really my bag, but I enjoyed the reviews. But thanks for the tip on Attack Girls Swim Team vs the Undead, I'm off to Tsutaya now...

it may be a crappy film but i have to admit that "Attack girls swim team vs the undead" is a pretty epic title

@davehome22 It is SUCH an epic title, too bad the movie didn't live up to the awesomeness of the title!

The Yakuza character Tadanobu Asano played in Ichi The Killer was called Kakihara, but you probaly remembered by now :-)

@drunkfux1 Pretty depressing that I forgot that...but in my head I just refer to his as Sado-Masochistic Tongue Dude, that seems to work pretty well.

Haha, yes it would be. LOL.
I'll check your review of "Junk".
