It's strange how dogs and other animals seem to know it's just a baby/child. :)

When I was working at a ranch there was this horse who bit people and didn't like contact, but when a child approached her, she was the nicest thing ever. I think many animals can tell the difference between a child and an adult... :) This dog is clearly aware of it. It's playing with the baby like it would have done to its puppies.

The neoteny the baby displays makes some animals (I think only mammals, but could be others too) able to tell it's a baby, big head in relation to body size, much smaller body overall than other members of the same species, etc. That's why you sometimes see female cats and dogs adopt cubs of other species just fine.
