All this time I've been looking for "Don't Wanna Cry Anymore" by Big Maybelle, a song I remember from Lady B's Record Show was on for 30 minutes M- F in the mid- 50's. But this is a different song. "Dont Wannna Cry" is not listed in the YouTube. . . uh. . . lists. Am I remembering it by the wrong artist? It was very deepvoiced and slow.
The arrangement background (strings etc) is precisely 100% Chuck Jackson's original (not a "rendition"), so Scepter-Wand must've just brought it out and let Big Maybelle sing on top of it.
That being said, Big Maybelle's lacks the soul of Chuck's version, and she absolutely PALES next to Pearlean Gray & the Passengers' faultless, fiery version from 1965.
Great version, new one for me.
