OMG I had their album. LOL I LOVED Paul when I was in high school. WTAI filmed around Agoura/Thousand Oaks alot in places like Jungleland, Calamigos Star C Ranch. I got to meet them several times! Good 'le days. what ever happened to Paul???
Still looking for my uncle Bob Morris, he's the Bass player here in the Hardtimes.. Any info would be Greatly appreciated. Last known living outside of San Diego. Thanks Doc
This track is really good. I love this kind of raw and honest garage rock from the 60s. My hobby is to rediscover all those bands that didn´t "broke through". It´s a fantastic musical treasure. Listen for example to The Golliwogs (Tell me) and of course THE ZETTLERS and their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". Really f.....g good with a bloody driving beat.
being of a younger generation my first introduction to this song was the Raising Sand album with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, but I must say this version is great.
Thank you for that! but as of now still no Luck:( I did hear back from paul wheatbread.. the drummer. He's an Exec. in Cal. but wasn't any help. Still hoping and Looking. Thanks
sfaster, I really think this is Rudy Romero on vocals and guitar. The commentator mentions the names of the boys before they start playing. Yes, there is a Paul, but I think that is Paul Wheatbread on the drums, and also - just as the song starts he says..Rudy. I think the producer or commentator should know. I tried to google Paul Peterson / The Hardtimes, but found no connection.
Growing up in LA myself, this sure looks like Paul Peterson on vocals/guitar.
Paul, from The Donna Reed Show had several bands in the LA basin. I don't think Rudy is the frontman here. As he had lighter hair when I seen him perform in Long Beach in 1967. I may be wrong, so many years and mind drugs gone by... Comparison photos can be found on the internet................
I really wish I had some old fan magazines that I had when I was a pre-teen. There were some great articles about the group. But I see some of the comments here are by relatives (like Bob's nephew) and friends of theirs, so they'd be in a better position to do that. BTW, like others have said, I think they did Fortune Teller better than the Stones did.
Bob Morris is my uncle. I've been trying to locate him for some time. He introduced myself and two younger brothers to Rudy when we were in San Diego for a visit in the late 60's while we were on vacation there with our parents. Bob and My mother wwere brother and sister by marrige..Sorry to hear of rudy's passing some time after our visit. have you seen Bob Morris, Or know where he might be. His wife was Mary Ann and they had three kids..
I'm still trying to find my Uncle Bob Morris..I know he's in or around San Diego, but that's about it. I located the drummer but he had no information..
Looking for uncle Bob Morris..The Bass player here. You guys were on tour and played in Seattle in 68' stayed with your sister, MY MOM. at our house before going back to San Diego..Wife was Mary Ann..Would lpove to make a connection again..Michael Tappon
The Hardtimes hailed from San Diego. Their boss version of "Fortune Teller" was their only single that charted on The Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart, unfortunately only reaching #98.
wonderful!!! smashing!!!! exploding!!!great!!!!! que dire?? rien a pars écouter cette démentielle version de "fortune teller" par les hard times!!!!!!
I'm sorry for hearing of Rudy's passing. I discovered this while I have been trying to locate "My Uncle" Bob Morris who is the Bass player, and was a good friend of your brother. In fact I met him as a kid when we were visiting Bob in California. My mom died and we Lost touch with Uncle Bob. I would love to re-connect with him. Can you help? Please
Can you beleive this> I'm trying to FIND my uncle Bob Morris. He's the bass player here with the Hardtimes. I still have the 45 record of Fortune Teller which he gave me around 1969. The band was broke up by then. He was living on a farm like setting in so. california. I loved watching the TV show as a kid seeing my mom's brother. "Uncle Bob" Anyone know where he might be>> I would be So Grateful Hook Me UP Michael Tappon
I was sooo happy I f ound this video. One of my absolute favorite songs from this time frame is "Sad Sad Sunshine" done by the Hard Times. If Rudy is in fact, your brother, tell him about 2 years ago I finally was able to buy their Blew Mind on CD so now I finally have not just the memories of that song but permanently in my posession. Tell him thank you for some great memories.
I have a couple of original photos of this group listed right now on Ebay, look under auctions by "collectableguy", I also have lots more photos of US & UK rock groups from the mid-1960s--check it out, they are very rare
Allan Toussaint wrote tunes under his mother's maiden name of Naomi Neville, and she was not related to the Neville brothers (Aaron, etc). I believe he also wrote All These Things by the Uniques under that name (which was first recorded by one of the Neville brothers). Benny Spellman was the first artist for Fortune Teller.

Nope different band! These cats were from California, and had a full length LP and some singles on World Pacific, as well as appearing on WTATI. The "I Can't Wait" Crew Hailed from Washington D.C. The 45 was on the Gray Ant Label.
Would love to see a video of the "I Can't Wait" group. Wouldn't you know it I was in my local supermarket yesterday and who's on line... no other than head honcho of Norton Records Billy Miller...

I am sorry to hear that! Gary actually put out a real good garage punk 45 under the over used 60's band name The Outcasts.

I would have liked The Union Gap better if they'd done more stuff like Don't Make Promises. That was a great song.

Not bad, but nothing tops The Rolling Stones version, which was a radio hit in Los Angeles despite not being released!
moorlock2003 4 years ago
The Rolling Stones released Fortune Teller as a single in Australia, however local band The Throb had the hit version in March 1966 reached No2.
blueycarlton 3 years ago
Thanks for that info. Do you know what year The Rolling Stones' "Fortune Teller" was released and what the B-side was?
moorlock2003 3 years ago
It charted alongside The Throb's version in March 1966 (Their version is on You tube)
I checked Wikipedia for B side but Fortune Teller it is not listed as a Rolling Stone release, (maybe released as a single in Australia only).
I remember Rock and Roll Music by The Beatles was released here as a single in 1965 and not in UK.
Will have to check that one out.
blueycarlton 3 years ago
Who wrote it?
Who recorded it first?
NilezII 3 years ago
Written by Alain Toussaint, aka Naomi Neville.
First recorded in 1962 by Danny Spellman.(wikipedia)
So The Rolling Stones, Hard Times, The Throb, The Hollies etc. are all covers.
blueycarlton 3 years ago
