Been listening to "Dreams of Reason Produce Monsters" on Spotify and it is far and away my favorite album of Mick's. This is my favorite track...DS may be singing but the instrumentation is all Mick! :)
When I was a kid and life got too hard to bear I would lock myself in my room and listen to Japan and all my troubles and problems would fade away. For that, I thank you Mick. You made my childhood bearable.... God bless you.
A plea for a friend...Back in '78, a gal I worked with knew I loved Bowie and said,"Here. Listen to this." JAPAN's Adolescent Sex. I didn't take it off my turntable for 2 months. They've been my favorite band ever since. Able to find a full collection of all their work over the years...but...never another fan! I've felt so alone in the joy they give me. Just want to say "Howdy!" to someone who's got "Wish You Were Black" on their ipod or whatever. No foolin'..."Rhodesia"?...anybody???
@jimstardust How I identify with what you wrote, Jim. Howdy, indeed. And I can't believe you mentioned Rhodesia, one of my favourite tunes from the time. I was growing up in the far north west of Queensland, Australia, listening to Japan and their ilk while surrounded by my friends listening to the oz pub rock of Cold Chisel or Australian Crawl. Felt lonely, but oddly satisying, at the same time.
@davidmoore651 "Howdy", David! Thanks! I've been keeping a fave-tracks CD in my car, and play it when I give my grandsons or others a ride somewhere. It still has the power to make people say, "Wow...who's that?" I love hitting 'em between the ears with the opening to ...Rhodesia!!!
@citic101 ...Rhodesia (written with the dot-dot-dot) is on the albums Obscure Alternatives and Souvenir from Japan (Ariola/Hansa). Great track. Worth the hunt.
@triphorn19 Everything you say is true but what must have hurt more than Fuji's infidelity was the feeling that he'd been betrayed by one of his oldest and closest friends. And let's be honest he had been. You can make all the excuses you want for him but the fact remains that Sylvian couldn't not have been aware of Karn's feelings for her at that time & must also have known that it was going to cause irreparable damage to his & Karn's relationship & of course to the band.
@triphorn19 You say that you doubt that being dumped by Yuka Fuji in favour of Sylvian bothered Mick Karn much. I suggest you read Karn's autobiography Japan and self existence. You may change your mind!
We do Hallie. One of the best post Japan songs i've heard. This was off a Mick Karn album, I bet Sylvian was a wee bit envious of it. Fans of Mick must listen to 'A Subway Called You' by Gary Numan. Karn's bass intro is amazing.
Mick Karn is an inspiration for all forms of expression in art/music ----- very few people can say they have a definite style that is their own. Thank you, Mick for sharing it with us !!! RIP
I totally agree with this sentiment. Mick mastered many instruments, I think that when he played violin at school he subsequently transfered the way you bend notes with this instrument to his work with the fretless bass. He played with no rules or authodox teaching, he did not read music but had the ear of genius to create his own instantly recognisable unique sound. Its like it comes from his heart and soul through his brain and fingers and into our grateful ears. RIP MK
@isleoforkney Oh, no!! That's not what I meant at all! I'm sorry if it came across that way! I meant *me* possibly going to hell and that I'm selfishly wishing for good company when I'm there. I'm sorry if my comment came across in a harsh way.
@camilelcoyne don't worry i was joking, (should someone not go to hell because they are a good bassist?) Know what you mean though, God bless Mick, sadly missed : (
So sad to see our favourite musicians pass away suffering from a senseless disease. The good thing is, that their Music and influence will live on for ever...
@Yecora26 Indeed - if it is any comfort - Mick Karn did make the great breakthrough with Japan getting the appreciation. It is funny to notice how Tube has so many musicians doing the 80's music
with fingers smoking e.g to bass and keyboard lines. I think that proves something on which once was dismissed as teenage pop :)
Great work Nabiky, you really did something on your own out from this. Not one of my favourites this track got a more shiny appearance by your exellent work. Altough i prefer "Buoy" from the same album.
Hi Nabi-san, this great clip was put on a Dutch newspaper site! De Limburger is the name of the newspaper. I was also quite touched seeing it again, so thanx ever so much dear!

@shinysynthcity thats beautifull, the only positive thing i can think of is that mick wont feel any more pain or suffering. i feel like ive lost a friend.
@shinysynthcity But obviously his "love" for Mick wasn't enough to stop him sleeping with Mick's then girlfriend Yuka Fuji! Although much of his music is etched on my heart, I can't escape the impression that there is something less than genuine about Sylvian.
@MisAnnThorpe That happened years ago, when these guys were only kids, not much more than teenagers!!! Let's spread LOVE and PEACE instead of hostile feelings... I'm sure that's what the lovely Mick wants now, as he looks upon us from Heaven. Rest in Peace, Mick...
@hydorah Found it! Thanks so VERY much...looking forward to reading it...I was so struck by the candor in his statement about Mick that I had to know more. :)

The guys in Japan really R kinda' talentless, but they all have a unique style that makes it interesting. Mick Karn immitates guqin on the bass, & David just talks some meaningless poems - blah, doesn't sing. Kinda' borin' really, except 4 the ethereal aspect - 2 repetitious & simple & baked. Not very dramatic. Try the stuff on my channel instead =)

@Maxiclaudi i dunno why such two amazingly talented people should be be more successfull. mick and david you are the best please bring back that magic.
I usually hate photo-montages put to music but this song is so great that I can't help but like it. If you did one for "Three Fates" and "Buoy", I would probably love you forever. :)
On which album is this song from? thougt I knew everything. DS´ new album is quite something, think I have to hear it 10-20 times before I don´t get depressed when I hear it ;o)
I've been a fan since my Japanese friend bought "Oil on Canvas" and we listened to the haunting sound of Sylvian's voice and kind of liked it. That was 1983 and we didn't even know that the band was already no longer. I've been to 2 shows ('88 was the better, after Secrets) and from "Perspectives" to the Weatherbox, I've sometimes thought of all the memorabilia and how it's multiplied in value many dozens or hundreds of times. All I have is the music, which is sufficient
David is such an overwhelming beauty, isn't he. And that voice... oh dear. I always loved this song and the other one from the same album that David sings on. Thank you for the video.
yes you are right! but it looks like Impossible to have a New work between Karn & Sylvian .. just wait for Manafon and the new Book/Album from MIck this year!
Back in the day i was a BIG jAPAN fan, i had my hair like Sylvian's and played bass in a band, Mick Karn is a fantastic player. His fretless bass is something else. I saw them play a short set at Virgin records in B-ham in 1980 to promote polaroids, VIP only, my boss gave me his ticket. I dont play anymore and have no Hair!!
I was brought up to this music, it's in my veins, it's not music, it's a way of thinking and a way of life and i'm proud to be like that inspite these ugly times!
just for my man <3

Mick and David should get back together, there is a special frequency when they play that brings out a sound so unique.

I usually hate photo-montages put to music but this song is so great that I can't help but like it. If you did one for "Three Fates" and "Buoy", I would probably love you forever. :)
