  • They could play mind games with it, saying go ahead kill us all, then no one will be able to build your machines. If that doesn't work, people can always dig out vaults. Colossus could not stop people from using simple shovels and cement mixers all over the globe.

  • I read a remake is being made with Will Smith. Ugh. The principle actors from this version are still alive, they should do a sequeol.

  • Traditional belief systems function for continued species survival. Variations enhance risk, chance and necessity.

Beneficial, positive and life sustaining become traditional belief systems and are repeated as culture and civilization; i.e., Religion and Science.

Prohibitions and restrictions as parental projections of identification: "For Your Own Good," "See What You Made Me Do," and "You Forced My Hand,"

The Paradox of Freedom:"The lease of freedom is tethered to the stake of necessity."

  • Outstanding, Truely the future...seen this when it first came out, Parallels with Revelation, If you take a=6,b=12,c=18,and so on in the alphabet, then take the word computer, add the letters up it = 666, The word computer is spelled the same everywhere ??? P.S. As long as you are haveing fun, that all that counts.

  • @llewgnal 666 the ancient number of Appolon the Greek God of knowledge.

For years this number was only a symbol for the Mystics studying mathematics in ancient Greece.

It was Given Much attention by Christianity, cause Christianity and knowledge cant

    co exist.

No need to believe if you know.

You could not spread a made up faith in a made up god if people know the truth.

So much hate to the priests of Appolon, who called Christians lairs and fakes.

So 666 is the devils symbol now.

  • nuke colossos now, turn it to glass, before its to late.

    great upload.

  • Paul Frees also made an uncredited cameo appearance in Howard Hawks' 1951 "The Thing (From Another World)" as Dr. Vorhees.

Perhaps in the not too distant future this will become available in its original aspect ratio till then, this will do.

Thanks for posting this well done and truly thought-provoking cautionary tale.

  • What a superb movie. I haven't seen this in 20 years or more, and it was a real treat to see it again after all that rime. I hope they don't screw up the remake - it's too good a story for that.

A thoroughly entertaining and thought provoking movie.

  • Wow. I can't believe how good this movie is. I am surprised I had not heard of this before. Thank you so much for uploading.

I thought they would go for a happy Hollywood ending - Colossus foiled at the last minute by human ingenuity. But they didn't go the obvious route. And they leave you wanting more. All around a really good movie.

I agree with ballantrae101: take the one-shot nuclear hit and then turn the damn thing off.

  • The perfect ending would be if Forbin killed himself.

  • @cbak12sg Are you sick or just pathetic?

  • What a great movie!

It would be SO cool if they make a sequel to this movie!

  • Interesting, right to the end. And Susan Clark looked really good.

  • I think this movie and "Planet of apes" should become part of the teaching plans in every last class in every school of the world. Regular history and other education can´t bring people to really think, art can!

  • Bravo Mr Forbin, you enslaved the world.

  • A better ending would have been:

Forbin: I will defeat you. I created you and I WILL defeat you.

Colossus: How could you possibly do that?

    Forbin: Just watch me...........

  • no famine, no war - sounds like the unattainable dream.

  • Thank you for reminding me that once upon a time Hollywood movies were driven by brains and ideas rather than focus groups.

  • The chilling part is how when you first hear the voice of the machine he says, "This is the voice of Colossus." Then at the end it shifts to "This is the Voice of World Control." Subtle but Creepy.

  • Many forget this great and wonderful film prececed "The Terminator" by more than a decade.

  • 5:09: the kid with the colossus T-shirt foreshadows Humanity coming to worship Colossus as God...

  • I like how Grauber just sits there calmly and lights up a smoke, knowing that there's no point in running...

  • A fantastic and smart screenplay.

I grew up in Sacramento with SAC B-52 Alert birds w/nukes ready to go from Mather AFB. This film would have been pretty scary during cold war and the 1970s (as did Fail-Safe years before). I saw it on TV as a young kid made I huge impression on me.

Looks like we know where the Sky-Net idea came from

    "Freedom is an illusion

....this concludes the broadcast from World Control

  • The Creeper virus (the earliest computer virus) appeared after this film was made. Forbin would have had to invent the computer virus in order to defeat Colossus/Guardian.

  • There's no way for an omniscient machine to be defeated.

  • "Man is its own worse enemy".

    so true. :(

  • "Freedom is an illusion...the only thing you lose is pride"

Sounds like the New World Order, right? What was forbin's response? What will the World's response, be?

    "Never!"

In time you will come to regard me with love

    Never!

  • Only alien technology can defeat Colossus. Thanks ColossusMov for uploading this brilliant thought-provoking movie.

  • they could have cut the power to the silos

  • As soon as one attempted that it would have sensed it and would have launched some or all missles from the Soviet Union and the USA. .. too terrible to risk.

  • yeah i guess so. It doesnt seem hard to cut the power to the silos. I think that could be done pretty quick. even organizing it done all over the us in a short time. probably sabotaging the power plants but organizing it done in the USSR also would be difficult without the computer finding out.

  • The solution is obvious of course. You call him out. He has the resources for one strike. Let him launch and be done with it.

  • They didn't even think of cutting the blue wire... the blue wire, it's always the blue wire.

  • Think it had more than one missile. As stated at the beginning, Colossus, and certainly Guardian too, had an array of defenses and missiles to hold off any attack.

  • Of course it is, but how many would survive such a terrible even?

  • Ever heard about diesel generators ?? In no way can you defeat an omniscient opponent, even less so a perfectly logical one.

  • Colossus had internal emergency backup in mountain...

  • Great movie, thanks very much for posting it, haven't seen it in 20 years and is just as good ......

  • colossus' final speech is one of the coolest "people of earth" speeches in sci-fi

  • hey - which parrt of colusus has "people of earth " speech....?

    thx

  • very fucking real.

  • God. Damn. Hippies.

They meddle around in the natural order of things and cry out against war. They fail to realize that freedom was one at gunpoint, that America remained free because Russia feared the retribution if they tried to attack anbd subjugate us.

    Yougurt-sprout eating motherfuckers.

  • I can see you feel strongly about this lol ;)

    Can you answer these questions:

    1) Why do people suffer when there is an economic crash while banks get richer no matter what happens?

    2) Do you think there are enough resources in the world to give everyone a basic standard of living and maintain a stable population?

    3) Do you think if everyone did have a basic standard of living and the population was stable that there would still be need for wars and weapons?

    Thanks ;)

  • Great movie, thanks very much for posting it.

  • what I don't understand is why didn't they cut the power lines to Colossus and end the circus.

  • It was designed to be self-sustaining... It has it's own nuclear energy source and can function for many, many years.... without the aid of man.

  • Colossus - Rome. Guardian - The Orders.

    Hubris.

  • "Get those men out of the silo...Move!" LOLROTFLMAO!!! Like they are going to outrun a thermonuclear explosion in five seconds!

  • I wonder what ever happened to that final scene at the very very end where it showed the planet rittled by nuclear war and a few scruffy, dirty, skinny people crawling over the rubble of a blown up city?

  • Another movie....

  • I found out that paul frees did the voice of colossus too, yet, he didn't get any credit.

  • ColossusMov, paul frees did the voice of colossus, however, he never did get any credit.

  • Love the kid in the Colossus t-shirt at 5.09. Hilarious. But prob too abstruse to make today and wear ironically...

  • Marketing tyranny...

  • *****!!!

  • Brilliant! Thanks for this.

  • This is a really good movie. I wonder if the Terminator was inspired by this movie.

  • Terminator was inspired by the book definitely.

  • Excellent film that deserves to be seen more often

  • "I want to be free, Colossus. That is part of man's will to live."

    AWW HELL YEAH! U-S-A! U-S-A!

  • Are we really free? Maybe in the eye in the sky (Judas Priest) in Hellion. Oh, I got it backwards or did I really!

  • Thank you for posting this. It is damn chilling.

  • friggin brilliant stuff ahead of its time !
