  • you can also use the steamer to make coffee or tea

  • im a survivalest to and i wanted to know whats your websites name is.

  • Think dave is so excited about the daul survival show so much he forgot about the saw.

  • @mogges1 if u have an axe u really dont need a saw.

  • Hum now I'm think RABBIT with the Romain noodles.and say a squirrel.Hay why not a little fish are some frog. dam this video has sparked some ideas.I alway buy a case of these romain nooldles.

  • Dave your door bells a ring'en

  • It's best not to drink too much of the Ramen Noodle broth (even though I do). It's loaded with sodium and wouldn't be good to drink especially for those who may have high blood pressure issues. That's a great idea adding the meat. Looks darn tasty.

  • Dave is awesome!

  • I mean us one to boil water, while you eat out of the other one.

  • And you could get another bowl and use one to boil, and one to eat out of, no space taken because you can put the steamer in one, and put that in the other bowl, VERSATILITY BABY!!!

  • what store are those beef steaks from?

  • Clif bars are a snack, they are not real food.

  • Dave! There's an airplane! Light the signal fire!

  • Bummer!!!! The very first time I don't like your video. Ramen noodles have a lot of "Monosodium Glutamate so does beef jerky. MSG is something called a cytotoxin. Some people can ingest a lot more than others can with no effects but it will catch-up with you eventually.

  • @Hutzjohn He is not talking about long term survival in this video. This is a more bang for your buck bug out deal. He is talking about 6 meals that can get you into a position to gain better food on a budget. Ie.. you are not a banker with endless cash. These money saving ideas can and will save your life. 6 meals like this will do you NO harm.

  • ramen why are you so awesome

  • i usually just eat my food cold on hikes...you dont have to boil the water for the noodles to get soft, it just takes a little longer...same goes for oatmeal.

  • the ramen noodles are better if you dump out the water once they are done THEN add the seasoning, i've got many a packet of ramen. Also cayenne pepper can be used to warm you up, sprinkle some in your socks for cold feet.

  • @SkateIslam Don't dump the water. You can use ramen water for a beverage. I have some Korean coffee that comes in a tube/packet. It's instant coffee, creamer, and sugar all in one. I have made it with ramen water and it worked fine. I am sure it would work for tea as well.

  • @purplemutantas ya absolutely. In a survival situation it would be dumb to waste the hot water which i'm sure absorbed some nutrients from the noodles. But for flavor of the ramen it's best to remove the water, whether u save it for later, or dump it if your just campin in the back yard.

  • i must add, ramon noodles are good however in my experience i found that i liked rice better only because if you dont have a steel bowl and you can only find a can of some sort their easier to cook. not to mention its cheap and you can carry alot of it, but i have used both

  • i wish you were my dad, adopt me?

  • And ... In addition to roasted almonds ...

    * Rolled oats (or quick oats) are way more complex and provide much more fiber than rice (Ramen) noodles, which are almost as "simple" as pure sugar. *

And ... most people do not know what cous-cous (pr. koos-koos) is, but it is like pelletized pasta and is MUCH more compact than pasta (epands bunches) and is also more complex and you just add boiling water (instant).

** both oats and cous-cous can be added to ANY stew or enjoyed alone (doctored).

  • Roasted, salted almonds, in a plastic jar. ... & ...

Emergency food tablets (Nitro-Pak) provide important nutriens (supplimental).

  • 10:51 Rescue plane! get the signal blanket! green stuff on the fire! ... oh wait...

  • Im doing this tomorrow lol

  • I love the videos. I have a great saw idea. 6.99 at the PX 12" chainsaw blade. Cut it. then key rings... you have an excellent saw that is light weight. It's as good as the 30 dollar survival saws.

  • For any vegetarians out there with a frowny face cause ramen is so great for camping/surviving ( or even Urban survival for the poor ) there is a blue ramen called oriental that is vegetarian, Taste just like the beef ones from what i can remember

  • BTW, those steamers make GREAT coffee makers (or tea) seriously, boil the water, fill it with coffee and dunk it, it really works. (also works great for crayfish).

  • @AchilliesWar That coffee idea sounds great... been trying to find a light-weight solution for good coffee on the trail. I'll be trying this ASAP

  • Was that his phone at 12:30?

  • nice advice on the noodles and pasta, i personally bulk-buy porrage oats & raisens (about £7 for about 2 or 3 pounds from a local health food shop) all you need then is water and you got a single meal that'll fuel you for a whole day!

though i'll look into adding the foods you had for a nice dinner!

  • Another cool thing about the Ramen noodles is that the flavoring package is very high in sodium. Normally that's not a good thing, but if you're sweating a lot and loosing electrolytes, it could actually save your life.

  • another plus with a spoonand fork is a spork whick i have is the prongs are pretty dang short good thinking dave

  • thanks for sharing...greatness..

  • @morgandewolfe thanks for the info! im only 14 so i dont really understand what all is high in protein and stuff...but im working on it...i know that meat does but i wasnt sure about nuts but i figured they did because they are in with the meat catagory...

  • Damn, I have an Ozark saw:(

  • WAT KIND OF PAINT DO U PUT ON UR BOWLS AND CUPS!

  • hey guys would penuts in a plastic container be a good snack if you were in a survival situation??

  • @survivalbushcraft97 Absolutely, peanuts are high protein and high energy for their weight.

  • @survivalbushcraft97 Nuts are a protein and fat source. Protein rebuilds muscle cells which make you feel stronger, but is not really a energy source for your body. Fats are vitally important, but not the best energy source. Long term energy will come from complex carbs [rice, pasta, potatoes, cereals]. These are first turned to fat, then used by the body. Simple carbs [candy/fruit] is used first, but doesn't last long. Mix a Ramen with pepperoni and you've got protein, fats and and good carbs.

  • psst... breaking dry noodles.... breaks the noodles.... noodle soup vrs noodles wrapped around a fork

  • Excellent video series Dave, an excellent kit for the budget minded and everything has more than one use very cool, seeing the lunch you made up looked good and keeps you going until you catch something, way to go.

  • yea ozark trail equipment sucks i bought one on their knifes and chunks of the steel blade started coming out.

  • I'm curious whether or not you've actually used the Coghlans Sierra Saw (I've heard this is the same as the Ozark) since I've used it and I found it to be very good. I don't mean any disrespect, but I had to question you as my impression is completely opposite of yours (though not based on personal long term use).

  • Have you thought about gloves brother? - Justin

  • what i like about Dave is that he's not trying to make you buy from his store. Dave is telling you go to lowes to get snare wire cause its cheaper than his store. Good Job Dave always enjoy watching!

  • I wish this guy was my grandpa:)

  • Hi Dave. Decades ago I noticed that my family's old aluminum collender nearly formed a parabola. I lined it with some aluminum foil, shiny side up and actually formed a real tight "hot-spot" inside it on a sunny day. I have used much smaller flashlight reflectors to start solar fires in the 70's.

Since seeing this video, I wondered if anyone has tried using one of those folding strainers as a form, putting shiny mylar or aluminum foil inside it to start a fire using the sun. ANYONE ??

  • If you just put the noodles in without breaking them up, then they make long stringy noodles. Breaking them up makes tons of little noodles. I personally prefer not breaking up the noodles and just putting them straight into the water. Eating Top Raman is the reason people can still pay for college.

  • Those noodles have a shitload of MSG if you use the seasoning, I find they take up too much space, the space 1 pack takes up can be used by 4 30 gram protein bars or 120 grams of protein and about 1000 calories, or you can get noodles, maybe for thrifty survival but not the greatest use of space

  • i am going to eat in my garden now :)

  • love the vids and this series in particular. keep em coming!

  • you can use the saw blade and attach it to a peice of woodto use it as a bush knife too

  • The Plane sounds awesome in the background...Rock on Dave

  • Ozark sucks.

  • ive had a lot of success with, quick oats, in Australia you can buy a kilo quick oats for about $1.50 you chuck that in a clip-lock bag with powdered skim-milk, any dried fruit you want or any sugar you want, then you just need to add water and bowl it, very cheap very filling

  • I will be adding a few things in my revamped camp box including one of those small steamers I don't even use in my kitchen. Good information.

  • My favorite flavor of ramen noodles is creamy chicken... Way better than the beef variety. Got to try em. Love the idea of the saw, I have an old popular mechanics handle in my kit that uses those blades, but I never tried the vice grip thing. Black and Decker makes a blade called "the ugly" it has very aggressive teeth for pruning and I carry a couple in my bush kit with the handle for a backup saw. I store the blades in a PVC tube for safety.

  • If you cannot have a fire for some reason, you can make Ramen noodles with warm or cold water. Just break the noodles into a bowl. Pour in the water and cover the bowl. Then, let set till it soaks up the water. Then, stir in your flavor packet.

  • just add a shotgun and you will have a compleat kit

  • Love the vice grip saw! Im adding that to my pack. Im a rodbuster by trade and Ive been looking for an excuse to add a pair of pliers to my kit. Maybe the dog bowl too...

  • If you have a tin coffee can you can make that into a billy can to cook in and you can use it to pack some extra food. Instead of buying that steel pot thing but I like the pot too

  • you should check out "Harber Freight Tools"

  • ill tell you one thing ive got. those wire clothshangers. you can make all sorts of things out of that. blowgun dart, 2 pronged fork, frog gig, fishin hook, grill, rings, etc. i even made a double hook that hangs off a tripod that holds a can over a fire for me. its like the setup Ray Mears does with wood. but ill use that wire and its multi use. ive put 2 foot foot lengths, i think 7 into my machete sheith that i covered with analgahide. *red in color*

  • the hacksaw blades an awesome idea thanks dave

  • I've commented before on your videos, but everytime I watch one I become more and more knowledgeable. Are you Ex-Marine? I'm 4th I.D. 13F Ranger, I detect a hint of government training. Again thank you for your work.

  • @mattlowry87 On the show Dual Survival it said he was a sniper.

  • @EddieCubillo Right on man, thanks. I suppose I wasn't paying enough attention.

  • Liking the budget kit, but it seems to be what everyone is doing. People focus less on basics, and more on cheap. You touch both areas. But I would love a video specifically focusing on "basic" irrespective of cost.

Neosporin, medical tape, some pills, tarp, rope, good multitool, fire starting, water pills, Kleen canteen, stove, fuel tabs, lint, and emergency blanket. That's a basic kit.

  • Ramen noodles are the best in any situation

  • @LazyMitchell Quinoa is way better than any pasta.

  • Top Ramen has extreme amounts of monosodium glutamate and unless you make your own beef or venison jerky, chances are the kind you buy in a store has all sorts of other preservatives that aren't very healthy either. Grow more hemp or get some hemp protein. If it was legal to grow in the USA hemp would be real cheap.

  • Damn I've done this, only indoors, minus the open fire! It's called being broke as a joke! lol! Love the vids! Already got most of this stuff around the house to boot! :D

  • My grandparents totally had a bubble compass on the dash of their Oldsmobile! Theirs was a tan Cutlass. Funny man.

  • carry aluminum foil its cheap and very usfull

  • Saw is good...

About food: First and only thing, you definitely need, is SALT. You must have some extra! Second - bacon (сало), hard chuck (сухарь) and tea.

  • cool idea for the saw. Your videos are addicting.

  • would green tea work like the black tea?

  • @reighmey *would green tea work like the black tea?*

    NO! definitely.

  • I like this.

    I always burn a garbage,

  • Did you say you were going to beat up the army surplus guy? XD

Awesome video series. I wish more videos like this existed for young survivalists. c:

  • You absolutely can not beat that...

for what we paid for it.

Think I just woke my whole block up laughing.

Great vid though, it's always essential to take food, because nothing is ever guaranteed.

  • great idea for the saw!

  • Oatmeal also makes a good and nutritious meal that can be eaten with water as well as milkpowder/water.

  • I like tossing my ramen into ziplocs for storage too - the noodles tend to poke holes in the bag after a little bit of ruslting around.

  • If you repackage the Ramen noodles into a zipock freezer bag you can boil the water in your cup then pour it into the bag. The noodles will cook right in the bag. This is handy if you don't bring a bowl or if you are in a hurry. There is nothing to clean you can seal up the bag and pack it out.

  • @neuromonic Lol my brother in law taught me that, he learned it in prison :P we use to be so poor it was ramen night every night and not having to wash bowls was a nice bonus

  • top roman and beefjerkey thats my bsa troops dinner alot lol

  • Love it . i eat ramen all the time super cheap ,light weight, awesome. no sweat to cook on a fire .

  • you can also use the steamer for a cray fish trap with your bait in the center

  • nice, its just a shame the noodle flavoring is filled with MSG to make it ''delicious'' and the dried meat sodium nitrate, but for a survival situation I must admit I would take it no problemo!

  • Dave, you made that meal look pretty good so I tried it. I couldn't handle the taste of the meat in the soup. Lots of sodium with that combo as well...but perhaps with enough water nearby that woudn't be an issue. If I was in survival mode...I don't think I would complain.

  • what is your opinion of "quickclot"?

  • One of the best video series that I have seen on youtube. Thanks.

  • 5/5

I remember buying ramen for 12 cents a pack.

  • Nice to see real world use if these items. Not just showing what's n a kit but actually field testing.

  • i like the philosophy of making as much of the survival pack as multi-purpose as possible... and am astonished at how much stuff is just laying around the house... good job awesome stuff hope to learn more from you

  • I love you dave... I am a 23 year old living in one of the most epic urban survival scenarios ever, College. You just showed me a way to make ramen apetizing, and for not very much more.

  • @shawn30446 I'm in the same situation. Go to walmart get frozen peas, 5 pounds of chicken breasts and a package of egg noodles. This is a meal with 2 chicken breasts, 2 servings of vegetables and 3 servings of pasta for around $2 a meal. I try not to eat too much ramen because there is so much salt.

  • thanks for taking the effort to share your knowledge

  • You are one of the coolest people in today's modern culture along with Cody.............You guys are freaking awesome!!!!

  • an old refrgerator shelf makes a good grill to put over your fire to cook on or set stuff on like your pans

  • Either that's search and rescue or you have an airfield very close to you. :0)

  • He's a good and skilled bush man, and his suggestions are always sensible.

    greetings form the Appennins.

  • nice, but IMHO a bit too much concentrated onto discounting and not onto bushcraft :/

  • I'm getting really hungry watching this...lol

  • noodles are lifesavers.- You can even eat them raw just smash them and mix with the spice it comes and eat. All sort of quickfood is killer in woods. nice vid

  • once again another good video

  • thank dave thIS HUGE HELP

  • Awesome! I never thought of beef jerky in my ramen. great idea for survival food.

  • you mix the ramen flavor after the noodles are cooked

  • Love your series with the barefoot hippie ! Really interesting

  • Ur a true genius.

  • Well multi grain powerbars do have alot of complex carbs. But HOOAH bars are not a good source of complex carbs. But I agree that ramen noodles are really good survival food. They still make head ache powder? I thought they stoped making it before I was born.

  • very good video dave... is it sad that i wanted to go get so nooles after this lol. hey im trying to make a bow not a survival bow but a lasting bow.... could you put video on how to do that.

  • @glanvwes1

Dave had made a lasting bow video. Check his channel

  • very good video dave... is it sad that i wanted to go get so nooles after this lol. hey im trying to make a bow not a survival bow but a lasting bow.... could you put video on how to do that.

  • Muy buen video amigo, los paquetes vacios de lamen mejor las usas como mini mantel antes de quemar, para no dejar los cuviertos por el suelo.. sALUDOS DESDE pARAGUAY.

  • Dave you are the man.... I have been into budget camping/bushcraft since I was a boyscout 20 years ago.

It is nice to see one of the great teachers taking time and interest in the people whom either can't afford or don't want to afford expensive equipment.

love your videos, keep them comeing.

  • you are in dual survival

  • @ Aldi's you can get a 12 pack of beef or chicken or shrimp ramen for round $1.80. if you can find some bird eggs you can whip them up and drizzle into the ramen noodles as it cook's. it tastes really good & gives added protein. check at Sams club. they have some "hot apple cider" drink mixes that are REALLY great. i think for $2.50 you get umm, 4 boxes=24 packs? my kids love it. :D not meaning to be annoying just trying to help. Cheers!

  • 7 people missed the "like" button

  • i like the gerber folding saw, lightweight , sharp as hell, comes with two blades one for wood, one for bone $15 ,folding pack shovel is handy to have as well

  • those little oatmeal packets work good too. Plus you can buy the sample box that has like 6 flavors and there you go.

  • @woodslore i like the maple brown sugar, lol

  • The flavoring is suposed to have an ingredient that is one of the main ingredients that give you migrain headaches just throughing that out there.... well thats at least what my Uncle tells me everytime i eat ramen ...which i do like 6 times a week =)

  • @TheUprisingNinja I believe that ingredient is MSG it is a perservative. It does give headachs to certain people. It effects my dad but not me. If you eat it 6 times a week MSG does not affect you.

  • just smash the ramen in the bag you can use the back of the axe for that like on your knee or a log or some shit

  • Thanks a bunch for these videos Dave! I really like you and Cody's new series "Dual Survival" Wow! You really made it now, man! Best wishes to you, this is a great show, better than" Man vs. Wild", you guys really know your stuff,Man vs. Wild seemed too much into the "shock value", you know, what's Bear gonna eat this time, etc. I have nothing against Bear Grylls, I'm sure he's a knowledgeable person, he's ex-SAS, so he must be, but you guys just have a neat thing going! Iwish you all the best!

  • how to you "cure" that bowl? spray the outside with heat resistant rustoleum paint, then put it in the fire, cooking both sides?

  • Great Vid, gave me a lot of good ideas. One Recommendation, on the Ramen, loose the packet, loaded with MSG and other nastiest. picket up some soy packets from most any fast food place (the one that has the initials PE would be best)

  • it may help alot to go to walmart and pay $25 for a good pack.

  • lexan & plastic melts while cooking!!!

  • Why are you using plastic bags in the woods? it pollutes! then what is the point of "being in touch with the nature" if u are destroing the invironment?

And noodles are not good food! that pack of "cup o'noodles" just burns out in ur body as fast as sugar! Eat something heavy duty noodles! something with more rye or raw-milled spelt, but never bleached wheat. u seem like an cooking amateur to me

  • @poelsemads Can't spell but you sure are a critic. What you take in the woods you take back out, certain plastics are biodegradable by nature of the products used to manufacture. (corn byproducts...........etc.) So go jump in a landfill.

  • @poelsemads What says he isn't packing the garbage out??? And "something heavy duty noodles" sounds like your just trying to argue. "U" seem like an asshole to me.

  • @poelsemads Learn to spell kid! Get off the computer, get in the woods for , oh 20 years or so, and THEN try to tell Dave what he does wrong! He's been in the Army for longer than you've been alive. He was kicking ass when you were suckling your mama's teats! P.S. get over the freakin' garbage bags, etc, so what, it's plastic, he probably isn't leaving it behind because he's a responsible adult and not some wet-behind-the- balls kid, like, ummm, YOU!

  • @poelsemads I don't think he is trying to get "in touch with the nature." I am pretty sure he is giving tips on surviving it and making recommendations for cheap tools etc to get now while you can.

  • i like to put beef jerky in my ramen noodles too, i get noodles at HEB for 15 cents

  • 2-part saw is a brilliant idea. Haven't seen anything like that before. Thanks.

  • you cam allos use your steemer as a straner

  • nooo. dollar general rips. $1, no tax (obviously) at family dollar.

apart from that, it's fair to point out that the canned meats are cheap too and useful. like vienna sausage, maybe make a sort of fish stew with sardines. all of these things are less than a buck, BUT, as dave mentions, that bag can be reused. it's really a point of is it really worth it to you for the easy protein

  • good idea with the noodles and Jerky ! loving these vids, keep up the great work

  • So here's a question: Couldn't you get another $.50 fork and just make a frog jig out of it?

  • Great hack w/ the saw! Dang I am writing my MA thesis and will not get out of town for 2 months. I used to swear oaths on the reusable 1,5 liter coke bottles, but i see the point with the metal bottle now. Still: Very good point w/ the super glue!

  • I actually made a pretty good knife by grinding the back end of a bigger reciprocating saw blade, one of the ones used for demolition, and jb welding a handle to it, using some re-purposed hardwood, from a door frame, and some brass wire to hold the handle on. total cost including the jb weld, $5.99

  • I bet steamed trout tastes really good.

  • Are the bowl and bottle that you painted still working .I was wondering because I have a metal bottle but it came with a paper that says not for use with hot liquids. I asume they wouldnt want you to use it on a fire either.

Also is 1000 feet of paracord too much. I found someone selling 1000 foot roles of 550 paracord for $50 which is the lowest price per foot I have found.

  • Great work again! I am interested to know how the canine pepper you mentioned works with cuts & healing. Sounds good.

  • I actually tried this last time I went out, wasn't awesome but it did feel good to eat something hot when it was 12 degrees.

  • my Grandma called em "stick to your ribs" meals. Bad thing is in an urban setting its a stick to your ass meal!! lol

  • Love ur vids man keep em coming !

  • beat the guy up at the army surplus store lol...

  • hello just for some advice a better more taster way to cook noodles boil the water put the noodles in let them re hydrate pore the water out then put the flavoring last withought the water and there is even more flavore ps if i spelt anythng wrong it is because it is a really old computer with no letters on the keys haha.

  • Being from England i would just toss the tea bag straight into the liquid, nowt like a brew wit beg left in!

  • @johnyonge, being English aren't you supposed to know how to spell?

What does: "nowt like a brew wit beg left in!" mean?

& he did put the bag into the liquid: THAT'S HOW YOU GET TEA YOU GIT.

  • Hey, I have that watch. My dad got it for me on clearance somewhere going out of business. Been wondering whether it's a good woodsmen watch. Question answered. Bit bulky though.

  • i like the look of that steamer!

  • Like the philosphy of the packed food. doesnt need to be fancy. I usually bring crackers with the jerky for some protien and simple carbs.

Man i've broken two multi tools in the bush and have elcheapo small vise grips in my tool box! going in my kit for sure, thanks for the idea :)

  • I'm looking to repair my muit too . the screw that holds the tools in one handle came out and I didn't know it . so I have to impromt a new screw and wingnut to fix it .

  • them ramen noodles are also pretty damn tasty even without boiling them

  • raccoons think so too!

  • When I make ramen noodles I always put chopped green onions and cayenne pepper. Never tried the beef tender though.

  • you americans sure do like ure cayenne pepper huh :P

we hardly use it in the ukl!

  • have you tried rehydrating jerky or slim jims there good n the noodles too .

  • If I can only have one item would it be better to have a hatchet/axe/tomahawk or a folding knife?

  • Dave, you are an excellent resource in all your videos. Thank you!

  • The ramen noodles act as a sponge and absorbs and sucks a lot of your vital liquids from your body in longer term hydration

  • @Tizzacious well everyone knows you're not supposed to be eating unless you have ample sources of water available anyway.

  • ive heard of Azimuth but what is it.
