I remember seeing Jackie Gleason interviewed on Entertainment Tonight about this while it was being filmed and they did show some scenes of him as The Bandit. Truthfully I think it would have been more interesting to have seen that version than this one. If you're going to have an absurd mess might as well go all the way.
