  • great video thanks

  • love the video man

  • I wonder what kind of mouse was Hitler carrying.

  • Anyone notice that Thomas Jefferson sounds a lot like Captain Hook from the 1953 film Peter Pan?

  • This reminds me a great lot of Ratatouille! anyone agrees?

  • Check out all the personality in his tail as he draws up the contract. You don't see that kind of attention to detail these days.

  • I had this video as a kid and it actually got me interested in learning American history. Thanks, Disney!

  • "WAS IT ELECTRICITY?!?!?"

I don't think I've ever heard Holloway scream like that before. XDD

  • 0:59 - 1:02 - There's one thing the Franklin biographies apparently got right.

  • Current me if I'm wrong, but Thomas Jefferson sounds like Caption Hook.

  • @SSlovebird It is.

  • So....why was Ben trying to kill Amos?

  • this was my favorite book when I was 8 or 10. Robert Lawson wrote and illustrated it, as well as a book by Paul Revere's horse

  • I love the fact that this mouse lives to be at least 35 years old.

  • "Was... it electricity?

    WAS IT ELECTRICITY?????!!!!!!!!!"

    Oh that makes me laugh!

  • quiero verlo en español pueden darme el link

  • This is like ratatouille =P

  • thomas jefferson=captain hook

  • Amos is the Cinderella's mouse!

  • I think Ben Franklin should learn to watch where he's going.

  • haa little

  • Hans Conreid was voice of Jeferson, yes it was Captain Hook. Ben is Charlie Ruggles, he was Aesop on Rocky and Bulwinkle.

  • You divide the two parts of this almost where a commercial break was on the TV special I've seen this on!

    1:13 always loved that part!

On the taped version our antenna apparently had an issue about 1:56-58

I like the ending of ours better though, maybe I'll upload it.

  • the idea for rattitoullie

  • cute. very cute! when i was in the fourth grade i read the book.

  • 7:40, am I experiencing deja vu from 0:06?

  • @powerpup97 wow. No you're not. Good point.

  • How did they did the effect on the bell at 4:42 it looks CGI or something I mean this is1953.

  • *watches Thomas Jefferson* ....wonder if this is what Captin Hook looked like before he headed off to Neverland o.o

  • Amos: Post, Ben, post.

Ben: How do you do, Mr. Post? (Thonk) LOL

  • I hear Captain HOOK! I did! I did! I did hear Captain HOOK!!! [does the Elmer Fudd laugh]

  • OMG!!! ITS CAPTIAN HOOK AS T.J. (TOM JEFFERESON)

  • @Leon61491 yup Hans Conried

  • Amos reminds me of the mice from Cinderella.

  • @HumbertTheHuntsman With Pooh's voice.

  • Nice! Love the classics.

  • anyone else notice that Jefferson could be related to captain hook, look at his shape voice and how his face with some minor changes could be him....how odd

  • @Tadicuslegion78 Disney often used the same actors for multiple characters in their films. Hans Conried was the voice of Captain Hook as well as Thomas Jefferson. If you look up a picture of Hans, you will see how much he resembles both characters.

  • Now that I think of it, yeah, he does...

  • I love this cartonn but, it seems to treat Franklin badly,

  • Thank you for uploading this. Nostalgia hit me hard.

  • So this basically says that Ben Franklin was a dumbass who couldn't do anything on his own, lol.

  • @PumpkinKingMatt Its just Disney's way of showing history and keeping kids entertained.

  • Historical funfact: Two presidents signed the Declaration of Independence: John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Both died on July 4th, 1826 the 50th Anniversary of the signing.

  • I find it funny that the man that voiced Thomas also voiced Captain Hook, and his character looks like hook while Ben looks like Smee. XD

  • I thought the same when I was a kid, especially that Amos was voiced by Sterling Holloway who voiced the Stork from Dumbo.

  • haha, the guy at the beginning is the dodo bird in alice in wonderland.

  • awsome!!

    thanks for posting this!

  • Thank you so much! I remember going to the public library as a kid and checking this out! I've never forgotten it.

  • Very enjoyable short! I remember loving this book when I read it a long time ago.

(BTW, I just noticed that you copied your description straight from the UD review for Ben and Me.)

  • Something like this ought to be on the Disney Channel...there was a time in the 80's and beginning of the 90's when they di show classic cartoons and films of Disney....this only makes me miss the Disney franchise back when it still had Disney in it...they took the disney out of disney now

  • They replaced the Dis in Disney Channel with Mon.

  • Wouldn't that be something?! The greatest mind of our country governed by a mouse! XD

  • no sta en castellano??

  • creo que no :(

  • as the years passed.....mice only live 1-2 yrs lol

  • Amos is so cute this movie is just plain adorable

  • Cute book, cute movie. ^.^ But didn't Jefferson's mouse write the Declaration in the story?

  • Ben Franklin had Syphilis a number of times! Never told us that in 5th grade History!!! :)

  • They didn't tell us a lot of things in history class. xD

  • I seriously doubt this since syphilis was incurable until the 1940s and he could not have had it a number of times. The final phase of the illness effects the heart, brain and the nervous system which can result in blindness, dementia or deafness. Franklin's contempories would have noticed this. Statements like these are conjucture since historians aren't doctors. I'm not saying it couldn't be true, but 18th cen medicine described disease very differently than we do now. Too many variables.

  • Oh my- Ben is quite mischievous at 1:47, using static electricity on Amos. And then he crosses his fingers when they shake on it.

I loved the book, and I love this short.

  • Same animator as Mr. Smee and same voice artist for Captian Hook.

  • Wait... If Thomas Jefferson sounds like Captain Hook, doesn't Benjamin Franklin himself look like Mr. Smee to you?

  • Heh, gentleman at 0:25...humanized version of the Dodo from "Alice in Wonderland". XD

  • It is Captain Dodo! :D

  • @johntheechidna1 brilliant observation, you must b a real fan

PS The new one is garbage

  • @johntheechidna1 Totally! lol

  • This cartoon is not about Benjamin Banna ka/Bannaky/Banneker. He focused on clocks and astronomy.

  • Nation of Gods and Earths? 5 Percenter?

  • How did you know that was Woolie's animation, PunkyBear?

  • I definitely think Ben Franklin would be amongst one of the most interesting people to meet. This little cartoon was always a delight to watch.

  • So... a rat's doing is the basis of the United States declaration of independence?

  • not a rat...but a mouse!!!

  • Okay, a mouse. Still, I think cats all over the world resent that.

  • I love this video and i didnt realize that the voice of Amos is the same voice as the original Winnie the Pooh. I always watched this when i was younger.

  • Also the voice of Kaa in the Jungle Book.

  • 4:00 - 4:12 =Animated by Wolfgang Reitherman

  • I just fineshed that book today.

  • I need an Amos.

  • @theaznfishy you and me both lol

  • i'm doing a book report on this book. they left out a LOT of stuff, like the character Red, Sophie and George Wash.

  • Like I said, this is definitly one of the best classics ever! Sometimes I do wish the Disney Channel showed the great classics like they did in the 80's.

  • Politicians being controlled by mice. That makes... way too much sense. XD

  • Back then, mice. Now they're rats. :)

  • Thank you for posting this cartoon i have seen his for 20 years..

  • I miss cartoons like this!! And Sterling Holloway's voice is gentle but powerful. I dont think I'll ever forget it.

  • Yes, I agree

  • DUDE! i havnt seen this sense the 4th grade =D Ben franklin kicks ass and so does youtube, haha

  • wasnt there a part with amos' family crossing on the mayflower and one of his ancestors lived under a painter?

  • You're right...about 5 min about Amos's ancestors which you can see in another 3 part posting here on YouTube. However, this 2 part one seems to have better quality video.

  • It's a fucking Disney cartoon you asshat. Don't bring mother fucking racism shit into the damn picture because your fucking racist. Damn!! I swear, some people in this world need to grow the fuck up.

  • Honestly, if you want to say something, then you grow up and use language other than swearing.

And if it's so horrible, why are you watching anyway.

  • Stop Swearing lol. Thats some funny shit right there. Who said the cartoon was horrible anyways? The argument was about someone trying to say this was a racist cartoon there slappy. Think before you speak. I proof read my swear words lol.

  • This cartoon is a parody of the story of Benjamin Franklin's house slave who was a big part of Franklin's inventions and other projects. Now by no means was Franklin a clutz or unintelligent but without the help of his house slave we may have waited for electricity for another generation or so. Because during that time it was illegal for slave to be literate, the help of "Amos" was kept under wraps. This cartoon is a peak into a part of lost African American History.

  • well helloo mr.post haha

  • Thank you for posting this!!!

Sterling Hollaway (aka Winnie the Pooh) was Amos!

  • He also narrated Lambert The Sheepish Lion... Also a fucking great cartoon...

  • @openmindedaussie Thank you!!! I remembered something about a lion, but i couldn't think of the whole name. Lambert The Sheepish Lion!!! I loved that cartoon!! Thanks again

  • Any time... Also look for the headless horseman and ichabod krane... Its also a great Disney Cartoon... I was able to buy 6 volumes of Disney Cartoons, like Ferdinand the Bull, (he used to love to smell flowers) The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow which is the one I mentioned about Ichabod Krane, Mickey and the Beanstalk, I was so stoked when I found them, and my 5 year old loves them...:-)

Disney Fables Volumes one thru six

  • OMG!! thank you so much!! I loved Ferdinand the Bull!!! And Mickey and the Beanstalk & The Legend of Sleepy Hollow were fantastic!!! I've got a lot to look up now. : ) Thank you!!!

  • it is great

  • Thomas Jefferson is Captain Hook!

  • What did Amos say during the protest?

  • <3 awesome <3

  • did any one else notice thomas jefferson sounds like captain hook

  • Of course. Both characters are brought to life by the astounding voice of Hans Conried.

  • hahah we wtached this in world history class when we got to the chapeter about ben franklin

  • haha how cool

  • so do we 我们也是哦

  • hey ho disney fans

  • When I see Amos at 1:23, I think he's thinking, "Up here, you blind man!"

  • Is that Hans Conried playing Thomas Jefferson? It sounds just like him.

  • I think it is.

  • lol, it's almost like ratatouille, only no one's cooking, XD

  • Sterling Holloway was definitly a great voice actor!

  • you said it do you remember him doing the voice of the park ranger with the bear's donld duck? i love those cartoons!

  • I love those cartoons too. It was voice actor Bill Thompson who did the voice for the park ranger.

  • realy??? wow thay sound alike! thank you^_^

  • You are more than welcome. Have a great and wonderful day everyday!

  • Gotta love that lovable voice behind Winnie-The-Pooh.

  • brings back a lot of memories for me as a kid. thank you for posting.

    Blessed Be

  • wat an amazing cartoon, brings back great memories, and educational!

  • This was the only way I knew even a smidgen of the Declaration of Independence. I was five and learning a lot already.

  • I love this cartoon!!

However, I find the music during the storm to be quite disturbing because it sounds like someone getting harassed and tortured to pieces.

  • Casting Hans Conreid as Thomas Jefferson is one of the Greatest. Ideas. Ever.

  • Indeed!

  • This was probably one of the first Disney featurettes ever, but it was over 20 minutes. Amos, did looked almost like Jaq from "Cinderella". It was done by Sterling Holloway.

  • thanks for uploading this! one of my favorite lines: Amos - "post, Ben, post!" Ben - "oh, how do you DO Mr. Post" LOL!

  • Thomas Jefferson sounds kind of like Christopher Lloyd. But now that I think about it its probably that guy who did the voice of Captain Hook in Disney's "Peter Pan". I forgot his name. He would later do the voice of Thorin in the Rankin-Bass "The Hobbit" in the late-1970s

  • Hans Conreid. ur thinking of hans conreid
