It should be mentioned, that this instrument has a severe CC64 hanging note BUG, which I told the support one year ago and it's not yet fixed. It's like a super car with dammaged breaks...I can't use it live nor as a daily composers work instrument. Nice sound, but helas, with this BUG useless...the BUG occurs on all of my three computers, it starts in Cubase after a certain amount of played notes...
Nice playing, I really liked it. Did you anything to the recording like automations in your sequencer (or just pressing the sustain pedal or something)? Or is everything I hear exactly what I see you doing just with your fingers?
I ordered Pianos a few days ago, but I won't be able to use it before christmas...
I totally prefer eastwest pianos to the "akoustik" pianos of NI ( guess they call it the grand collection now) , maybe they did a higher quality sampling, but when it comes to the best I would go for galaxy pianos. Or alternatively synthogy, but still :s

Okay Okay i was the biggest and i mean biggest illegitimate supporter of quantum leap pianos for about 2yrs now. but i have to change my story. This is embarassing, but I installed all 35 cds only to realize that the sample libraries were installed incorrectly in the end. So I had to reinstall everything...
Btw, has anyone of you encountered some sort of sustain pedal issue?? It works perfectly fine on the PLAY Standalone interface, but when I try to use it in cubase 4, the sound cuts off when i release the sustain pedal...T_T

Good playing! Quantum leap pianos freaking suck. You have to buy the stupid piece of crap ilock key that cost 40 freaking dollars. The installation instructions suck. They should write on the box that it is a pain in the but to install and it takes four freaking days. I was so pissed off that I wanted to burn that piece of crap software but then I would waste 400 dollars. I want to break all of the discs and shove them down the throat of the man who sold it to me at guitar center.
Before anyone flames him, what he's saying is that the samples and sounds are fantastic, but the management for the registration system is a piece of shit.
yes, true. The sounds are amazing as well as the video. I was just mad that day because it took me probably five days to figure out the installation problems.I just needed an ilock key. I am all set now :)
I've hear from Torlie's videos that I guess they Didn't include the massive grand steinway piano? Thats the one i'm so fond of sound wise, and if it dose indeed have it, I might spring for the Pack. Beautiful playing and sounds sir! Lovely sound, just lovely. Cheers fuckers, IC.
Check out which player it is bundled with. Some sell the Play edition (the most modern, and what Torley have) and some sell the Kontakt edition. BUT according to some posts people have trouble with the Play edition, so do some research.
Well personally I'm not very fond of NI's Kontakt/romptackt/stomptakt,dunktakt crap they keep comming out with lol. It was a good engine but hell My engine I have for my old Librarys of smphponic choir/orchestra isn't even the new Kontakt, it's the older Kompakt lol if thats a toung twister. The Play engine can operate in 64 bit, which makes the world for me.The samples for Play have been beefed up quite a bit,so one needs a good computer to play with play lol so it can be problimatic right ther
As for the piano, I use Ivory Italian grand which is nice but doesn´t quite have the natural string resonance I hear in this video. (But then, there is an important difference in price.) As for the question of software piracy, there´s no need for it because there is so much freeware software on the net. (Try KVR-VST). If companies adopted a different strategy, and the world didn't revolve around profit margains, then the companies could offer the technology to the majority of people. If it's possible to exploit technology in order to progress society in some way or another, then why not do so? Why does it always have to revolve around whether people are being paid. We have enough technology and resources flowing round society at the moment to provide the whole world with whatever they need to sustain a decent standard of living, but yet we still decide to buy into the idea that it's 'only' about keeping the 'economy' afloat.
I believe making money is important, because in this day and age, if you don't till a field of corn, paddy of rice or farm any kind of food, you'd be hard pressed to live comfortably. So that is why money is crucial as a requirement to survive.
Do you know the amount of money spent on developing these kinds of software? Months of work, hiring top musicians to play the instruments, the studios that cost millions to build?
Sometimes, people just have to be rewarded for they effort and dedication in something so much so that they are willing to introduce this unique products to the world.
The price is not for everyone, but for people who respect what they have sacrificed and are continuing to sacrifice for these things enough to pay the price for them. And that is how they are even more motivated to develop more of these software.

@darkbrother1337 Hey Bro, Have faith and BUY the software, you wont regret it and as well you support those who made it and you get good karma for doing so. I highly recommend all the EastWest Products
Funny. Whenever I sit down at the keyboard (i'm not very great) I play in some type of like . . . c minor suspended. I dont even know what it is. THen when I try to learn something in a more major key, i have a lot of problems making my hands go there. I'm way better at guitar.
not the playing..the sound quality of the piano... you can have the crappiest keyboard in the world and still have the sound be a rich full grand in a big room...
thats what this video is demonstrating in case you didnt know. A sampled Piano VSTi.
they just have new versions...called PLAY versions and they've discontinued their old products...But its the same thing with new wrapping and some new buttons.
Quantum Leap Pianos is alittle better than Ivory, not much. But Pianoteq is far better than either, and is the only piano software that sounds exactly like the real thing.
That's interesting...I found Quantum Leap and Ivory to sound much more like the real thing, cause Pianoteq doesn't use recorded samples of pianos, it uses modeling.
Wow, Pianoteq sounded terrible when I tried it, I don't see how anyone could say it's better than Ivory AND Quantum Leap, the latter being the best sampled piano I've heard so far.
Is this the 200GB piano library? It sounds indistinguishably realistic, of course, but is it worth the hard drive space? Does it come with loads of damper pedal samples and things (which most people don't use)?
Any advice is valuable - I'm about to get a Receptor so I might as well get the best there is!
Thanks, I will have to find some demos. I'm actually not all that happy with EWQL Pianos these days. I seem to constantly get drop outs even on a very powerful computer with the light version of the pianos. I'm actually back to using my S90ES piano sound for most everything.
Lucky bum... you have a keyboard with modulation, and it looks expensive too. I can't start building my own studio until I have some kind of way to control the modulation and distortion and stuff.
nb2rock: Using size as the basis of comparison is a completely ass-backwards and incorrect way of comparing libraries.
Ivory and QLP are roughly equal, though I prefer Ivory both sound-wise, and the fact that the library is much more compact. I also like VSL's orchestral libraries much more than EWQL, where the size difference actually translates audibly.
East West is great, but it's not the greatest; just very solid pick. An exception is Ethno World 4, which is tops in my book.
It's a hell of a lot more compact than QLP (which is growing on me). If you're playing solo, I can see how people can go for QLP. In a mix, though, there's no advantage to it.
I still don't think I'll switch from AP. First of all $450 is a hefty price to pay for a set of samples that will only really be done justice by the most expensive and high fidelity of all PAs. Secondly you also have to have a dual-core, high-end, 4GB-RAM notebook, which I imagine not a lot of musicians can afford. And I won't even start about the hassle of installing a 90 GB piano.
So is it impressive, stunningly realistic and the new reference? Most certainly yes! Is it practical? Not yet.
no problem..! I own a few products from east west my self, the steinway included, and I have to admit, the sound in these instruments really surprised me.. Really really good quality. but they use alot of memory on larger compilations where multiple instrument are used.. :/
Definitely better than ivory. If you go to my website (listed in my profile) I think I have a demo of Ivory up there. Also, these videos have much better sound quality on my website so you can get a better idea.

Hrmf, something happened, it lost my first part of my post:
I was saying the CCC comes with piano, but Torley chose to exchange those he had with something else, which you can do at the soundsonline.
I was also going to say that I've seen the CCC at European online stores, at lower prices. And then my reply above makes sense, with some context.
The august promo is mostly still on so it seems that is what the streetprice will be for the future. Perhaps something new is on the horizon.

Wow, Pianoteq sounded terrible when I tried it, I don't see how anyone could say it's better than Ivory AND Quantum Leap, the latter being the best sampled piano I've heard so far.

is Galaxy II pianos better than this ?

EWQL piano for this song ? it's like .. killing a fly with Nuclear

Is this the 200GB piano library? It sounds indistinguishably realistic, of course, but is it worth the hard drive space? Does it come with loads of damper pedal samples and things (which most people don't use)?
Any advice is valuable - I'm about to get a Receptor so I might as well get the best there is!

The pianos in Omnisphere are better than this.
ordellsmith 3 years ago
Thanks, I will have to find some demos. I'm actually not all that happy with EWQL Pianos these days. I seem to constantly get drop outs even on a very powerful computer with the light version of the pianos. I'm actually back to using my S90ES piano sound for most everything.

great, you should re-do the waters edge piece with this piano and without drums.
fourbarposer 3 years ago
Yeah, I really should just delete waters edge :) It was kind of a hacked together piece and one of my first.

hi I'm wondering what speakers you use to play with these soft pianos?
mightystar55 3 years ago
I use Rokit 5's and Rokit V8's

Lucky bum... you have a keyboard with modulation, and it looks expensive too. I can't start building my own studio until I have some kind of way to control the modulation and distortion and stuff.

uhm, buy a cheap 88 key studiologic controller.

If you think Ivory is better than this collection check out the comparison demos at their website ... EW/QL Pianos blows Ivory away!

no way in hell does ivory sound better than this
ivory is good, don't get me wrong... but calling it superior to something twice its size is ridiculous.
the video doesn't do this thing justice because of youtube's compression
nb2rock 3 years ago
I agree the sound is somewhat better, but lugging around 263gbs of piano is metaphorically heavier than lugging a real one.
metabog 3 years ago
nb2rock: Using size as the basis of comparison is a completely ass-backwards and incorrect way of comparing libraries.

Ivory is compact? I'm bothered by the 20 GB of Acoustik Piano already. :-D
Superphilipp 3 years ago
It's a hell of a lot more compact than QLP (which is growing on me). If you're playing solo, I can see how people can go for QLP. In a mix, though, there's no advantage to it.
Arecibo 3 years ago
I still don't think I'll switch from AP. First of all $450 is a hefty price to pay for a set of samples that will only really be done justice by the most expensive and high fidelity of all PAs. Secondly you also have to have a dual-core, high-end, 4GB-RAM notebook, which I imagine not a lot of musicians can afford. And I won't even start about the hassle of installing a 90 GB piano.
So is it impressive, stunningly realistic and the new reference? Most certainly yes! Is it practical? Not yet.

which one is better: eastwest quantum leap pianos or native instruments akoustik piano?
thanks

Eastwest Quantum Leap Pianos by far!
playsomeboards 3 years ago
no problem..! I own a few products from east west my self, the steinway included, and I have to admit, the sound in these instruments really surprised me.. Really really good quality. but they use alot of memory on larger compilations where multiple instrument are used.. :/

can you compare this to synthogy ivory? which one is better in your opinion? thx in advance
akaimpc1000 3 years ago
Definitely better than ivory. If you go to my website (listed in my profile) I think I have a demo of Ivory up there. Also, these videos have much better sound quality on my website so you can get a better idea.
