Insanecow: maybe you heard it on "Curb Your Enthusiasm". About 2-3 seasons ago, Larry David's blind friend was doing a little revue at a local nightclub and he sang this!!! At the end, only Larry and Sheryl were left clapping dutifully. it's a great song.
Oh, dear! You've uncovered the Stephen Schwartz- not so hidden- hidden secret! Both Pippin and Godspell follow the same "tribal musical" form and can essentially be staged the same. In both cases, the songs generally don't progress the plot much and are strung loosely together by a paper thin book. And every Schwartz show could easily be performed with the set from Wicked (which was initially the set from Sweeney Todd!)
I think Schwartz writes great music. Pippin especially being one of, if not his very, best in my opinion. And I agree with the person below me, I also don't see the connection between the Wicked set and the Sweeney set. I haven't seen a lot of barbershops atop pie shops with an occasional scene change for Pirelli's wagon or Johanna's window in Wicked. I'm just sayin', I'm not sure what you mean by that comment.
That set was actually pretty cool to see in action. It was on a winch and could travel up/down stage and store offstage too. This was filmed at the Goodspeed Opera House though, the tour set was bigger. (20% bigger to be specific). You're not too far off comparing it to a small high school auditorium.
As for the acoustics they were lost somewhere in the transition. Both the arrangement and Joshua sounded better live.
Billy Piscopo's vresion is thye best

yes, andre ward (lead player) is amazing. and it is an extremely small stage: 29'x21' with 8' wings

he is a great actor. he sings clearly, use the entire stage, gives the charactor his own little touch, and does great movements!

I'm with you, I think PIPPIN is Schwartz's masterpiece...even though Wicked is more popular...

Oh dear...
It's like the set of Wicked meets the staging of Godspell and the did it in a small high school auditorium with bad acoustics.
I'm sure the show was much much better, but this recording doesn't do much for me.
