I hope it was a prop and not the real one. I grew up watching Gamesmaster and always wanted to go on the show/win a golden joystick. Alas, it never happened. :(
I like Lee & Herring and TMWRNJ but there's no need to break a golden joystick just because they don't value it.
@jacksawild It's probably because Dominick Diamond was as thick as shit next to them, and retorted with "a satire of satire - that means it's rubbish!"
I hold out hope that a real golden Gamesmaster joystick was destroyed on TMWRNJ that afternoon.
@bazzabaz I'm afraid it wasn't the real one. Herring kept it at home for years before it found its way in a box and finally being thrown out as a forgotten memento of TV fame.
Really? That's a shame. I read in a magazine interview many years ago, Stew insisted it was the real one. I suppose that will teach me to take a comedien's word for something!
@bazzabaz Magazine interviews are often fairly inaccurate really. Richard mentions the joystick in his recent book. I suppose there's a chance he remembers wrongly though so you could still be correct.
@Gamepopper101 It doesn't matter. Smash a Blockbusters pen, smash a Family Fortunes "We are a gay family" badge, and smash a golden (NOT REAL GOLD YOU IDIOTS IT WAS PAINTED GOLD AND IT WAS AN AWFUL PAINT JOB) Gamesmaster joystick. Destroy them all and pour their remains into deep holes that run into the heart of the planet earth.
@wisteela I wished it was the real one (why would it be a waste? It's was a fucking stupid thing provided by a programme that promoted lazy computer gaming behaviour) but unfortunately it was an especially made prop. Personally I'd like to use a flame thrower on all the Gamesmaster prizes in the world, and all the Top Gear presenters in the world.

I'd rather they'd smashed the stick into Dave "The Unstoppable Games Animal" Perry's idiot-hole.

...I think I'm taking this too seriously. XD

@owaffs Well apparently it was a prop but I still REALLY wish that it was the real one. :-)

Is it because the way Gamesmaster and Dominik Diamond insulted them?
aaaahhh

I like to think that was the real one, not some mock-up made by the props department. It'd make it all the funnier if it was!

It was definitely the real one.

You've made my day.

@bazzabaz Fuck I was really hoping it was the real one.

@DexterAndCromwell Exactly correct.

Shame they don't know it actually might be of value, knowing the cult status of the show.

Yes, found out it was. Seems Richard found it hard not to laugh even though he was supposed to be upset. :)

I've always thought that was a total waste. I wonder if they just made a prop one?
wisteela 2 years ago
I reckon it was the actual one and that Stewart Lee took great delight in destroying it too. =p
