Wow, the only vocal arrangement that I heard on the radio, was the 1970 version of this song by Migel Rios. When did Johnny record this song? Nice. I 'm a big fan of Johnny, but Migel's version is so much more powerful.
Thank you for posting this song...it is a great song and has been a favorite of mine since childhood. I have not been able to find it in download anywhere...thank you.
This song sounds like it belongs on a xmas cd.........Am I wrong? For some reason I can see Johnny singing this next to a xmass tree! But what do I know Im a nice Jewish boy from Jersey!
Well, it could be on an xmas cd. I may have not recorded all xmas stuff. Or maybe Johnny's people never thought of putting it on an xmas cd. I recall hearing this song on a.m. radio sung by someone else back in the 60's or 70's. So someone else made it famous and Johnny's people probably saw it as good material for him to do and it wound up on "Close To You".
This song has nothing to do with Xmas or religion. It is from the "peace, love, equality" era of the 1960's. It is a beautiful song - about equality of all mankind and based on Beethoven's symphony - depicted in the movie Immortal Beloved.
My dad has this album. released in 1970. besides this song includes, close to you, Why Can't I touch You, Evil Ways, Everything is Beautiful, The Long & Winding Road, The Wave, Yellow Days, Pieces Of Dreams Until it's time for you to go. BTW This song was from Ludwig Von Beethoven's 9th Symphony "Ode To Joy.

this is one great song. The version I remember came out about 1970 from the Sandpipers. Their harmony is glorious.
