I was twelve when I first saw this movie. More than any other scene, this one scared the shit out of me. This man's death looked unbelievably painful -- not physically, but psychologically. I could imagine the thought "There's no way out; I'm fucked" working its way through his head.
Yeah, I know, the character was violator of the public's trust and a would-be murderer, but I still felt sorry for him. That's high praise for the director.
