yeah. i had this album when it first came out. i was about 13 then. i used to live right across the alley form where they practiced on Central. i lived on Ruckle and i used to sit outside the basement window and listen to them practice even when they were a group called MERGING TRAFFIC before they became MANCHILD. they are the reason that i became a musician. Eventhough I moved to jacksonville, fl. in 1982, I still tell stories about them to this day. check me out on reverbnation look 4 tenman
A little known fact did you know the lead singer for MANCHILD on the song also sang with a group called "THE INDY FIVE" back in the day. That's right OLD SCHOOL FLAVOR IN THE HOUSE. EBONY RHYTHM FUNK CAMPANE ALSO , INDY PRODUCT.
Shortridge class of '78. They sang at the prom of '77, this was the song played at midnight! I guess it sounded cool to say you were from Chicago than Indy, but that's ok, we still loved them!
@calicotux Hey, blue devils in the house. Someone was saying that MANCHILD was from Chicago. To bad he did not know we went to school with Charles Bush (lead singer on this song). And I played with them in the Indiana Black Expo back in the day. I was not in the group, but on some of the shows they did. Bobby Parsons best drummer in Indy, next to me. Kenny(babyface) Edmonds product of Northwest High in Indy. I could go on Flash, Reggie G., AND ALL THE OTHERS. HEY DIDN'T MEAN TO MISS NO ONE
A beautiful song, and to think Babyface have a section of Highway in Indy named after him, it tripped me out when I stayed in Indy for 3 weeks of training and saw that. Thats how you honor a native son. Now it your turn Minneapolis Mn
@lrich65184 : Here in NYC, the ONLY black-formatted radio station in this tri-state (NYC, Northern Jersey & Southern Connecticut) area that played Manchild was the now-defunct: AM 1430; WNJR...Newark
thanks for the clarification...but the fact they 'BLS would only play it overnight (dayparting) was part of the problem then...and over 20 years later, it's STILL the problem with black-formatted radio...that's why for the better part of two years, I do not listen to any black music radio anymore...and if XM channel 60 (SoulTown) doesn't get it's act together REALLY soon, I will gladly cancel my subscription....
@wvcc24hrs Anytime 24 ,I love sharing this stuff(and not arguing).Yes I agree because 98.7 Kiss New York, which is not Black owned did very well in signing Felix HERNANDEZ does very well in playing this song on his Rythm Revue show is evidence of what you are talking about! Not to mention all of the problems Black owned Radio Stations like Wbls face over the years with people like Frankie Crocker during the 70s! Agree!!
Crispus Attucks in the house,,,,,, this was the joint,,,,but still when Dimp would play it at the Tyndell Armory---but the Jam still is "Don't me Rowdy" so if anybody has it ---add it
actually, canibus did a song with this sample, dysfunktional family did, and a drum and bass artist named plug did a song with this at one instance of the song
This song is good, yes but Rowdy Dowdy Blues is the Jam. As stated though they were ahead of thier time. Or maybe a step behind, disco was just hitting and if they could have gotten through that, they mighty still be jamming today.
does any body have that????I have the album... when you see me jammin',, jammin' right out of my shoes...everI can't be responsible for what I might do......... (you gotta love Indianapolis public schools-Babyface/Flash/Reggie/Chucky B-----old school PS#42
this is the song that made me so happy when i was sad growing up in indpls this group was way ahead of there time chuckie flash reggie and kenny anthony darryl robert i saw you play at black expo nothing could compare true fact bill cosby was helping out on percussion
My Dad Has This Album. He Told Me That One Of His Friends Knows One Of The Members Of The Band. I Forget Which One Though. But I Definitely Grew Up Hearin' This One Around The House On The 'Ol Sony Turntable. Not Let Me State That I'm Only 17! LOL! Now That Should Tell You This Is A Baddddd Album Here.
Yeah Manchild! "Especially For You" was a big hit on R&B radio. Bring back my high school days in 1977! They were from Indianapolis, Indiana, played locally in Chicago. One of the most versatile and skillful bands. Members include Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, Flash Ferrell, Reggie Griffin, Chuckie Bush, Anthony Johnson, Darryl Simmons, Robert Parson
When i first heard this song, I thought it was earth, wind, and fire. Look at babyfaces hair..Lol
