Great video. I am confused as to why so many 'thumbs down' votes though? What more did people expect from a video titled 'Boeing 747 British Airways landing at LHR - IN COCKPIT'?
Funny that every one thinks its a fake by looking at the scenery. Is it just me, or isn't it strange that the Pilot Flying, the Captain, has his right hand on the yoke and not on the throttles?
Isn't it also very quiet in the cockpit? No communication amongst the pilots? Then again I don't know BA's SOP's
@LukeNAESA10 Do you know a Filipino pilot name Michael Dy? Also 3 Flight Attendants one is Filipino Name Mitch Chan or goes by the name Marie Michelle Dee Chan, 2 other girls Trish Smith and Tiffany Jones. these 4 people claim on facebook that they work for British Airways and I don't believe them. Thanks
it might be both, don't know, it could be the camrea quality is bad so it looks fake, but the outside looks too high a quality to say it not, haha, guess it a be there kind of thing :) good video though mate
@FLIGHTANIMATION maybe : )........anywayits just my opinion to say its a sim.....u know i loved the video whatever its is....i mean i like the footage
@butterscottch227 theres a jump seat in the back, this guy is either a pilot that let someone else film or he is a flight attendant, i have friends who have done it, its up to the captain though :)
i think baloney geek has a point since when runway lights flicker an if u look good this looks like a sim scenery u guys should compare it to other 747 cockpit landings an see
There are movable simulators. I was lucky enough to get to ride in one. A 747-400 actually. They do look a bit like this, so I can see the point. But this is real. If it were a simulator the screen would look distorted and you could see black lines on the edge of the screen where the image stops. That isn't true with this though. It is real.
This is a simulator for the training of the crew, look at the lights ! and for the hand, it's because they are real pilot in a simulator. Write "747 simulator" in Google images and look the first photo of the second page ... !!
good lord. All of you guys are pathetic trying to argue if its a sim or real world. Do any of you get laid? Who freaking cares if it's a computer or not? All of you are a bunch of losers, regardless of whether its a computer or not. Get a damn life.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's a simulator. Not Microsoft Flight Simulator. the kind of simulators used for training. They are like mockups of the real thing. Besides, common sense and physics will dictate that runway lights CANNOT shine so brightly even in early morning. And then again, if this was real, the light coming from the side windows should have illuminated the instrument panel. The instrument panel is not lit with ANY sort of natural light.
@BaloneyGeek if you look at the center of the runway the yellow taxi lines are beside the White Center Line of the runway, in Flight SIm the Yellow Taxi Line is in the Center line of the runway you notice that hmmm?
@BaloneyGeek If this was a sim, number one the outside screens would flicker, number two I have yet to come across a Level D sim with such realistic traffic.
@BaloneyGeek Also, the glare shield prevents the natural light from shining on the instruments unless its diluted. Also, those runway 'lights' are also reflectors so they shine whenever light is on them. Therefore, if the landing lights are on and theyre usually bright, the reflection will be just a bright.
@BaloneyGeek if you are a pilot I fear flying now cause I fly and you dont know shit about the internal set up of a 747 or the basic theory of how light even refracts.... get off youtube dumbass
ts took me less than a cm to figure out all of this mayhem(sim vs real)! I dont think they re is any bugs on a Sim! This is a 747 REAL Flightdeck....And thats only one thing...Beside the car at 0.06 bottom left on the road flashing his lights!

@rodrigoborgesflores The "woman" is a computer voice. "50 above" means 50 feet above minimums. Minimums is the altitude at which the flight crew must have visual contact with the runway - of not the approach must be aborted. The "50 above" callout is effectively a pre-warning to the following "Decide" callout. "Decide" is the decision altitude - if the flight crew does not have visual contact to the runway at that point, they must abort. Otherwise the approach will continue.
@ryanhaart Hey Ryan! Thanks for the explanation, it was so helful. But i mean about the voice because i never heard a woman in the 'callouts'. Indeed i heard in MD-11 callouts, but it's the only one. Anyway, thanks dude! :)
@rodrigoborgesflores The Honeywell EGPWS has various configuration settings for male and female voices. I guess it comes down to company preference or policy.
@69fearfactory - It asks if you´re sure you really want to land there... there is still 100 ft to go, so you can choose whether you want to go on or go back! :)
@skazhiprivet And no your wrong minimums is a height that's different at each airport for safety and noise laws its the height when on approach were the pic (Pilot in command) decides whether its safe to land or not the GPWS calls Minimums or decide as in this plane. So it would be decide and the pic would call land if he would be landing and abort if unsafe to do so :).
@superman797 Also if i way expand in Heathrow they bring down to DH (Discension Hight) to as low as 80 feet as for if the airport gets crowded. So planes are quicker to land then go around.
I have a question.... when flying a large commercial airliner in real life do you guys use direct gps or do you use loran for oversese flights and VORs for overland
@Farmerpilot13 Direct GPS is never used for IFR flights, flightplans are based on routes containing VOR , Waypoints and Airways, specifically (Jet Airways) for turbojet aircraft and turboprop. While Props use Victor Airways
Idiots, its not a sim, how do I know, erm, been to cranebank many times and the 747 sims crash with google earth! Idiots Oh and yes I know several guys who fly these things for BA!
Tescok; Thanks for sharing Both Videos are great. Love BA, has the best pilots in the world flying for them. if this was a simulator the view outside had been "flimmering" (i´m from sweden), because thats the effect of recording another screen, just look to the right, the terminal and the aircrafts there is real
0:41, you can see the hand of the captain on the yoke. Besides, how can you be so stupid to say this is a simulation?I can not understand what's going on in your minds you guys!
@UltimateSonicFan0001 LOOK AT THE BUILDINGS YOU STUPID PRICK. IT ISNT A FUCKING SIMULATOR. SIMULATORS DONT HAVE THAT MUCH DETAIL. SO JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP. Man these kind of comments make me angry.
@igna924 whats the captains hand on the yoke have to do with anything IF it was a simulator i would expect to see someone flying it.......... just saying
@PhilipDK5800 The first reason is because of poor quality of video. The second reason is the latest simulator database for commercial use expressing amazingly detailed view with 3D and the real ground texture mapping. Third reason is that thought it's day time outside the light in the cockpit is like the night time which makes me remind of the flight simulator.(I have done the commercial sim like this before)
@Transfusions Hello Transfusions, commercial simulators do not place much emphasis on realism of the landscape and 3D view. The main purpose of simulator training is to practice cockpit procedures, so the realism of the display is not very important. This is clearly an actual flight deck video.
@ryanhaart I don't know in U.K. but Such as in Japan Air Line they have programmer for the simulator it's able to update the simulator program and they do emphasis on realism as well. Again with this quality of video above here it's not easy to say if it's the real or it's the flight simulator at once. Give you some example for you. Search with this key word " V Australia's first Boeing 777-300ER"
- adding to that I've seen more realistic one than this this video.
alright, so I kept looking at the video a couole of times, and I think I have some evidence that proves that this is infact a real video not a simmer. At 0:12 in the video if you look about the glaresheild on the captain's side you will see a small white car moving (outside of the aerodrome) Simmers dont bother making insignificant mobile objects outside of an airport; therefore, making this a real video.
I'm a flight simmer, and I know what's real and what's not. Real training simulators with the entire cockpit don't put emphasis on realistic scenery, but on situations.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
but just in case what makes you so sure that its real, tell me what are you seeing in the video that gives a hint of reality, because I keep trying to find clear spots with rich texture to prove that, but I can't. You can't just base you're answer by just flying in a cockpit so many times. :) About the people who say this is a sim, what makes you so sure that it is either?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
well, It's hard to tell whether its real or a sim, due to the lack of texture in the video. I dont know about the people who are insisting its either real or fake (thats just so stupid from both sides.) Simmers are so sophisticated nowadays thats it could be a little hard to tell the diference especially in a crappy resoluation like this. And @ Marsaud, it doesnt mean anything when you have been a crew with BA for lots of flights..that has no effect because this is a video on youtube.
I'm British Airways longhaul cabin crew/flight attendant and have been in the cockpit many times for the landing into LHR many times....I can safely say this is 100% real. Can't believe people would think it was a sim!!
Watching this just makes me realize how dangerous flying really is. One gust of wind, one upsurge in thermal currents etc could cause havoc. I respect the jobs Pilots have. They are wonders in the skies. I really appreciate pilots and doctors in life for the tremendous responsibility they have over peoples lives. My hat goes off to them.
To be honest the realism of the professional training sims today make it hard to tell if this is real or not however the camera shake would suggest it is real unless they've simulated that too. Good video nonetheless. :)
ive traveled around and all over the world and i can say british airways has got to be my most favoured airline with great service and good pilots althought i must say some of its 747 fleet is getting on in years now as i came back from l.a a month ago and it was quite clear to see the the 747 we were traveling on was an old bird, sign of the times i guess, but in all b.a is a good airline, but i would say that being a brit, :)
The ba planes we went on were older ones then i guess, but haveing said that i did fly up to hawii back in november from sydney on a qantas 767 which still had projector screens in it for the entertainment etc, looking at the projectors id say they were about 20years old, is it comon for companies to fly planes this old??? do you or anyone out there know which carriers have the youngest fleet?
maybe they think because videocolors are quite pale just like the simulators you see on tv documentaries when pilots train. I dunno... maybe that's why some people think it's a simulator. by the way, simulators nowadays are very very realistic.
Heh... seems like the "FAKE" shouters are everywhere... just that in aviation videos, they say "SIM"...
What a world full of idiots.

@igna924 whats the captains hand on the yoke have to do with anything IF it was a simulator i would expect to see someone flying it.......... just saying
sk8rguy178 1 year ago
This is definately real because you can see several cars on the street before the runway

How on earth can you mistake this from being shot in a sim???
PhilipDK5800 2 years ago 21
@PhilipDK5800 ignorance?
windh 2 years ago 6
Probably :p
PhilipDK5800 2 years ago
@PhilipDK5800 The first reason is because of poor quality of video. The second reason is the latest simulator database for commercial use expressing amazingly detailed view with 3D and the real ground texture mapping. Third reason is that thought it's day time outside the light in the cockpit is like the night time which makes me remind of the flight simulator.(I have done the commercial sim like this before)
Transfusions 1 year ago
@Transfusions Hello Transfusions, commercial simulators do not place much emphasis on realism of the landscape and 3D view. The main purpose of simulator training is to practice cockpit procedures, so the realism of the display is not very important. This is clearly an actual flight deck video.
ryanhaart 1 year ago
@ryanhaart I don't know in U.K. but Such as in Japan Air Line they have programmer for the simulator it's able to update the simulator program and they do emphasis on realism as well. Again with this quality of video above here it's not easy to say if it's the real or it's the flight simulator at once. Give you some example for you. Search with this key word " V Australia's first Boeing 777-300ER"
- adding to that I've seen more realistic one than this this video.

alright, so I kept looking at the video a couole of times, and I think I have some evidence that proves that this is infact a real video not a simmer. At 0:12 in the video if you look about the glaresheild on the captain's side you will see a small white car moving (outside of the aerodrome) Simmers dont bother making insignificant mobile objects outside of an airport; therefore, making this a real video.
zoulation 2 years ago
I'm a flight simmer, and I know what's real and what's not. Real training simulators with the entire cockpit don't put emphasis on realistic scenery, but on situations.

OMG man!! give it up already its been like a year since we talked about this ! :D ..

but just in case what makes you so sure that its real, tell me what are you seeing in the video that gives a hint of reality, because I keep trying to find clear spots with rich texture to prove that, but I can't. You can't just base you're answer by just flying in a cockpit so many times. :) About the people who say this is a sim, what makes you so sure that it is either?

well, It's hard to tell whether its real or a sim, due to the lack of texture in the video.

When does a pilot decide wether to do a visual or ils landing??
Arsenal4Eva18 2 years ago
Many times!!! Ha!!
marsaud 2 years ago
I'm British Airways longhaul cabin crew/flight attendant and have been in the cockpit many times for the landing into LHR many times....I can safely say this is 100% real. Can't believe people would think it was a sim!!

@marsaud...Maybe you and I can meet someday, my dear. Wait...I hope you're a woman. Lol

how can you even say its a sim, its blatantly not!!

My hat goes off to them.
phileustace 2 years ago 3
@phileustace: flying is not dangerous. Cars are much more dangerous. They kill hundreds of thousands of people every year in the world.

nice landing! i like speedbirds
Logan8808 2 years ago 2
To be honest the realism of the professional training sims today make it hard to tell if this is real or not however the camera shake would suggest it is real unless they've simulated that too. Good video nonetheless. :)

Nice landing! Big ol-long flare!

ive traveled around and all over the world and i can say british airways has got to be my most favoured airline with great service and good pilots althought i must say some of its 747 fleet is getting on in years now as i came back from l.a a month ago and it was quite clear to see the the 747 we were traveling on was an old bird, sign of the times i guess, but in all b.a is a good airline, but i would say that being a brit, :)
rj5382 2 years ago
@rj5382 Old? Most of the 747 fleet is only 10 years old.
Miker3797 2 years ago
The ba planes we went on were older ones then i guess, but haveing said that i did fly up to hawii back in november from sydney on a qantas 767 which still had projector screens in it for the entertainment etc, looking at the projectors id say they were about 20years old, is it comon for companies to fly planes this old??? do you or anyone out there know which carriers have the youngest fleet?
rj5382 2 years ago
i would say Ryanair might have the youngest fleet as it is mostly made up of 737-800s, but dont take my word on that

I cannot believe some ppl think this is a simulator...
Anyway! Nice Upload thank you.
Wheyness 2 years ago
maybe they think because videocolors are quite pale just like the simulators you see on tv documentaries when pilots train. I dunno... maybe that's why some people think it's a simulator. by the way, simulators nowadays are very very realistic.
SomanNerveGasMT 2 years ago
how can ppl even think that this is a simulator you can see the speed in landing and the enviornment moves a lot slower than in the simulator
