  • thanks for info

  • Great video, but i have a few comments. The Diode and Capacitor is not responsible for the frequency. The diode rectifies the AC current from the transformer, and the capacitor smoothes it out. The Magnetron itself has a internal cavity, which sets the frequency. Inside the magnetron sits two ferrite rods with thich wire on them, those are chokes that stops most of the interference, so you do not transmit 2,4 GHz out on the wires to the transformer. There is NO transistor inside the magnetron.

  • fantastic vid

  • Good one Dave. The main fuse can blow if the door safety switch dont work good too .Most of the problems i have to solve on the microwave ovens were blown diodes or magnetrons with short circuit to the ground .If you have an oscilloscope with component tester its easier to check the diode or the capacitor .Your video remembers me when i was an home appliances repair man , microwave ovens are easy to fix : just be carefull where you put your fingers :-)

  • I really liked your huge shelf of microwave spare parts, that I didn't even know existed before I watched this video. Really cool, I've got a microwave that's 20 years old just like me and it's still working without any problems.. it's a Philips Whirlpool M602, with the 900w Jet function. I really like it, and now that I know how to fix it, I sure will if it ever breaks. How cool to have a microwave just as old as me in 20 years, still running. Imagine that! Thank's dave, gotta love redneck DIY.

  • i have 1 that it works good but my light's dim and the plug on the cord get worm do you know what it is

  • Please upload video about how to buy a good second hand car.

I know you have one in your old Video colection.

  • And Dave, it actually does hurt capacitor. If you do it many times of course

  • some capacitors hold charge for months if not for years

  • Excellent video. Thumbs up!

  • microwaves have a wavelenght of 10 to the power of -3 and therfore cannot get through the the steel mesh on the door. however light can as it has a small wavlenght of 10 to the -7 and therefore you can see what u coooking.

thanks dave you helped me understand waves in physics.

  • Dave: Is there anything you don't know? Your videos are awesome!!!

  • More videos like this David!

  • Excellent video, you covered everything except a question I have always had: why can you not use a glass fuse rated for 125VAC? Fixing microwaves was my first real after school job back in the early to mid '90's. I was also warned never to use anything but the expensive ceramic fuses. Today's microwaves don't have the stiring fan at the top, they just spin the food. It's cheaper that way, I guess. I've got to find a belt for my old Amana with a motor-driven stiring fan.

  • @jrcstudios glass fuses will shatter violently (like a firecracker)

  • @Knaeckebrotsaege is this due to the inductive load and large current of the transformer? I mean, other 120VAC devices have glass fuses.

  • Thank You Dave, Hope you have a great year ahead of you!!!

  • Thanks Dave for vid s like that I like learning new stuff like that be looking for the air conditioner vids

  • yes drinking beer is why we live fore

  • yah dave, these are the kind of videos i always came to your channel to watch thru the years, skyhill and beer parties were cool, but these DIY vids were always top knotch.

  • I can't believe how knowledgeable you are Dave!

One thing I hardly knew anything about was my microwave, but you've fixed that for me.

    Thanks!

  • I fucking love these kind of videos. Learned a lot. Fav and Liked!!

  • is it true that it's bad to run a microwave when there is nothing in it?

  • @grasscutter88 I destroyed my old microwave by accidentally running it empty (nice flashes and sounds inside)...so I guess it's true! ;-)

  • just startin to rebuild my davesfarm favorites,,, I hope he dont get jerked around and booted again

  • I already know how to fix a microwave. Just another boring re-uploaded video from the fake Davidsfarm account user MONI370 and Frenchvalleyairport

  • Dave what's inside the capacitor to cause it to store power?

  • legendary....

  • Another informative video Dave...Thanks for sharing.

  • davidsfarmrocks

  • Cool video, I don't even really care about microwaves but your videos are cool and educational sometimes so I just watch them for the hell of it.

  • new vids please.

  • I don't even care about microwaves. I just want to here some fresh dave videos lol

  • Passing on this knowledge is a great way to help make people less stupid. I would say that 80 percent of people could fix their own stuff if they just thought of how things work and had just a little info passed their way. Thanks Dave I will use and help pass on this good stuff.

  • more vids like this please dave!

  • Can u try to make a dc welder out of a microwave?

  • @TheBackyardMechanics thats not gonna work 'cause welding needs high currents, and microwave transformers are designed für high voltage with low current.

  • so happy to see your tutorial vids comming back!!!can you put the one that explain how fridge work... please...

  • good one, Dave. I want to enroll in Univ of Dave class for fix the switch on Electrolux floor brush, please.

  • Great video. Can't wait to see the a/c videos, thanks Dave.

  • another excellent video Dave

You see folks this is why Dave dosn't have to work anymore LOL

  • Dave, glad to see you back, love the tech stuff. Car is stuff is fun, but learning things is good too, hey what ever happened after your old school go cart was done. still have it?

  • True fact: beer is that what counts

  • Damn, how does he know all of this shit?!

  • Was anyone else cringing when he put his fingers close to the capacitor? To some it might sound dumb but if you know how badly they can bite, you learn to respect their power. Great vids as always Dave. Thanks for sharing. :D

  • Dave; with all those magnatrons (mainly the magnets), you could fabricate a Bedini coil.

I don't recall ever seeing this archive; but thanks for posting anyway!

  • Dave, you really could sit down and write a do it yourself how-to book just like these videos with everything you specialize in and I would be very quick to purchase one for future use in my life. Awesome videos! It's cool to learn these things

  • Yet another of your excellent how-to videos, thanks for making this!

  • That civic looks nice :D

  • how do u fix a microwave that turns on by itself

  • totally love your fix it videos Dave! i would have never tried fixing one before, now i would have no problem!

  • Cool video. Amazingly my Sharp Caurousel is still working after 20 years. Must have been a good one. I would replace it, but it works fine.

  • I really enjoy these how-to diagnose/repair videos. I love fixing stuff, if i knew how to fix everything i would... I learned to fix my lawnmower(had a bad magneto) thanks to Dave's repair vid's

  • More likes than views! Dave rocks. Had to watch this one twice to understand the operation and function of everything.

    VT247

  • once i saw someone make an arc welder with three microwave transformers

  • Could you do a vid on how to change drum brakes

  • @mayorofwilsonville do you know what kind of drum breaks cause i have a second channel where i explain how to do some

  • @slipknot5567 its on a 2000 dodge dakota

  • Is there anything you don't know?!

  • Great video!

  • yea, my microwave is a daewoo /:)

  • there is a difference between the door switches, some are normally open and others are normally closed. They should say NO or NC on them.

  • Thanks Dave

  • Thumbs up if, oh wait asking for thumbs up is gay. If I like what your stupid ass has to say I will give you a thumbs up you dumb fucks.

  • Thumbs up if your the 309th viewer.

  • Dave do you know how to fix flat screen tvs?

  • unqualified persons may make a mistake taking there life .there is more than appropriate voltage across the heart.

  • kool and helpfull video!!!!!!!

  • good vid dave thanks

  • dave cut that coke talon fingernail

  • make something new!

  • Make a dual, triple or Quad liquid cooled magnetron microwave. It would vibrate and hum like an old hotel bed. Your food would bounce around in there like ping pong balls... Or make popcorn blow right out of the bag. Why not!

  • Hey DAVE Have you ever built a computer. It would be cool if you filmed yourself doing a desktop pc build. Happy New Year.

  • Or just buy a new one for $20 at walmart

  • I learnt my lesson with capacitors with an old camera. I shorted out the flash capacitor! What a shock! Not nice..

  • You know this was a good video Dave but most of the new ones have that stupid PWM board or what ever there called. Makes them almost unrepairable.

  • Thanks Dave I'm sure there are many handymen out there who are quite capable of doing this, but are Leary of going in there... You made it clear and safe and will probably save some of us some bucks! Repair shops are so often rip offs and many of us fear the robbery... I lok forward to any other fix it vids you make for us...

    O,,,

  • why am i always the 309th viewer?

  • @tikimandude112 i am too.... wtf

  • HP MICROWAVE WTF

  • @jason123456789210 don't be dumb visit future shop hp makes everything

  • nice explanation of the diagnostic process

  • DAVE SOMEONES STEALING YOUR SHIT [youtube]/mackza1x

  • @hundanth cuz he jacks whatever has "police interceptor" in the title

  • @hundanth I don't see this video on his channel?

  • Dave is one of the few people that could survive an apocalypse with his knowledge of fixing household items and cars. My neighbor is a banker with an MBA and he freaked when his lawnmower wouldn't start, it was just a bad spark plug. People need to get back to being hands on.

  • @7477238 He has the property and resources to build his very own underground bunker. It woulden't have to be huge, just built to block alpha, beta, and gamma rays.

  • Nice video :) Hope you will do more new howto-videos in the future :)

  • Your best vid of the year!

  • Interesting video

  • Why can't I use a glass car fuse, Dave? As long as it is rated for the same amount of current it seems like it would work.

  • @RandomGuy995 You're right. Whenever someone says NEVER use a glass fuse, you should use one anyway. It's only common sense.

  • @torchandhammer I was merely wondering why not to use one

  • very interesting.

  • Knowledge is power Thanks Dave for sharing your Knowledge!

  • I fix mine by making it into a SUPER MICROWAVE, with spare parts laying around my house.

  • What counts living another day or having another beer?

  • I have the special tool :D

  • I have a broken one here, will try to fix it next weekend. Thanks Dave!

  • Hi Dave, great clip!

But let me give you one advice on testing those kind of diodes with an ohm-meter.

On some types of high-voltage diodes the forward voltage drop is higher than the testing voltage of some ohm-meters, so you wont get a reading even when the diode is still good.

So you can check such diodes by using higher voltage, for example a car batttery and hook the diode up in series with the battery and a small 12v bulb or an LED with 1k Resistor.

Love those how-to vids..keep em coming

  • My microwave makes popping noises every now and then. But it is also one of the ones that spins the tray. Anyone know about this?

  • hope you still have your million dollars cause you are going to have cave man snow by Easter stock up wile its warm man its going to be bad

  • Dave I love how you explain how stuff works.I could watch your vids all day,you are so damn smart, and very interesting person.Keep up the vids, don't matter what you post, always entertaning.

  • great vid ty

  • Could I use the capacitator to power an amp ?

To give it more power on a deep bass, Dave?

    How much farad are those?

  • @CorsaAGSi In car audio? Those are pointless. Invest in a High Output alternator and a good battery.

  • @CorsaAGSi

Hi, that wont work, those capacitors are designed for high voltages and have only a small capacity in the range of 1micro-farad

  • Nice video Dave, very informative!!

  • I love these videos! I can watch these forever!

  • Thumbs up you used to have that microwave

  • Can you make a bomb out of a microwave?

  • I usually fix it by yelling "work you useless piece of crap or I'll smash the shit outta you!" and then banging on the side

  • It's good to see you uploading the classic videos from before all the b.s. starting going down.

  • Comment removed

  • Dave how does that capasitor store an electrical charge?....what does it store in?

  • @badmarthafocker

I'm pretty sure it does store a charge, Though I am not 100% sure.

  • THANKS !!! you took the mystery out of a microwave !!! Please keep posting this type stuff . That's how I found your site. The cars are fun, but I enjoy knowledge over crash and burn..

  • Love the redneck way of putting the bowl of water on top of a microwave that's plugged in and opened up :D

  • @IOutDoSyndicate me to

  • Keep making these, Dave. This world honestly needs more people like you. Now a days we seem to just throw money away and never think to repair anything ourselves. I like learning as much as i can from you. Hope to see more. Thank you

  • @Mccainscellmate Agree, is it anything he can't fix? I'm the type that throw stuff away rather than fixing it, I'm too lazy

  • @Mccainscellmate yep we live in a throw away society! people waste so much good shit! because they don't know jack shit about anything!

  • @redneckrollercoast1 the throwaway society has its good sides though.. It's the reason why i'm watching this on a 24" LCD i got for free ;D

Was about to be junked because of 3 bad capacitors.. replaced them all. total cost: less than 5bucks

  • @Knaeckebrotsaege well thats true:)

  • @Mccainscellmate your not kidding.

  • love the the fix it vids of everyday items thanks dave happy new yr

  • David, u have so much swag!

  • Dave, what happens if you take away that metal with small holes in the door??

  • @SuperTowlie1 The front door no longer filters out the microwave radiation if you remove that, so looking into your microwave will cause microwave heating to your face if you're close enough, and could cause glaucoma as it cooks your corneas on your eye. So don't do that, lol.

  • @LookItsRiceCake well how far will it cook outside the door??

  • @SuperTowlie1 Its hard to say because the microwave is designed to focus all its power inside the case, but if you figure an average microwave is 1000 watts, even one thousandth of that escaping the front of the microwave is a watt of power. Considering US OSHA safety standards are no more then 0.01 watts of exposure per square centimeter for under 6 minutes I wouldn't want to find out.

  • @SuperTowlie1 It probably won't cook anything all warm and tasty but the emissions will put anyone within probably 10 meters of it at varying risk of exposure to dangerous amounts of RF radiation.

  • @SuperTowlie1 i think it keeps the waves in that microwave,so better leave it in ;)

  • Just short the capasitor connections or both to the body

  • so there's really zero chance of getting a shock after the microwave has been off and unlocked for a couple of hours?

  • @ivecocamper All capacitors have self discharge. After a couple of hours, it should have drained itself by its own characteristics. Still, if you wanna be safe, you can always put a resistor across the capacitor terminals to drain it, or short out the terminals of the capacitor. The main capacitor shorted out = no voltage potential = no chance of dying.

  • @LookItsRiceCake awesome, thanks for your reply. I've got a couple sitting at my shop which stopped working at some point, would be good to check out the basics as shown in this video :)

  • You should put a 5.9L Cummins in that bitch, cook them pizza pops up real quick

  • dave thats a smart idea for the screws

  • @JELH LOL that's how she rolls

  • very well described and informative. thank you for taking the time and sharing your knowledge,

    I subscribed. Happy New years

    Robinson's Auto

    Will

  • Hey Dave, do you think you could re-upload the lawnmower and weed eater repair videos you had on your old channel? I just found those to be very informative as well

  • is it a good idea to microwave this?

  • trim your nails werewolf

  • Oh Dave, I love you.

  • С НОВЫМ ГОДОМ, ДЭВИД!

  • dave rock

  • HOLY SHIT, Dave! I bet you have parts to the lunar rover as well! lmao

  • there are No second chances with microwaves especially with the hv transformer and capacitor.

  • Comment removed

  • very informative so thank you very much

  • The flathead scredriver is a miracle tool! You can open microwaves with it, pry off paint can lids, even start a car with it...and more!

  • now im sure ur redneck nose picker has other uses, but thats still nasty.

  • Yes, More repair videos Please!

  • happy new year dave!

  • Wish you would make new videos like this. Like, does fuel injector cleaner really work, (I know it doesn't for the most part)

  • i really miss those videos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i want ou to use all the transformors to make a big arc maker i have 2 of them and i makes 4000 v and like 180mh most likly more then 180 mh

  • Smartest guy you will ever know! Dave...If every micro does the same thing..what makes one more powerful then the other? Speed of the wave ? and how does that happen?

  • @wildcat2087 thats sad :( Did they find out if he unplugged it from the socket before he disassembled it? Because the only dangerous thing inside when it is unplugged is the high voltage coil but its only about as strong as a car ignition coil wich will shock you but unless you have some kind of a heart failure doesent kill you.

  • hmm nice old video, i bet a lot of microwaves were scrapped just due to lack of understanding.

Sometimes ive found the diode test doesnt work because the meter cant put out enough voltage to make it conduct, so use a 9v battery/9v bulb and diode in series to do a crude test. one way it lights and the other not..

    Worked for me.:-)

  • 100-0 ! haha

  • yeah buddy of mines microwave had a gaping asshole in the back right corner, didn't blow the fuse, but one of those clickety switches went up in smoke.

  • Almost 100 like 0 dislikes :D

  • How to fix a microwave? I'll tell you: Get a new one and send the old one to be destroyed at Davidsfarm. ;-)

  • I think these are your best videos, that and the "how cheap am I" series....Wendy is one lucky woman:)

  • i have a 1700 watt micro wave, it makes the lights dim : ), also new microwaves have stupid inverters and are a pain in the ass to trouble shoot, and there is now simply replace the transformer because each inverter is unique it sucks and you cant blow stuff up with them either, protection mode stops that

  • I fix them with big hammers.

  • isn't there a risk of radiation poisoning when you take those apart?

  • @somejackball Watch the video from the beginning...he covers that very subject.

  • @6:54 holy coke nail LOL
