I'm having trouble replacing the hood seal on a 71 vw bug. Aligning the 3 rubber tips with the body. But it is leaving an access of rubber in the corners? What am I doing wrong+
You open up the channel about an inch right at the bottom curve under the latch,
and slide the rubber out, i have done it a few times, with new and perished rubbers, and it works fine,
you may need to stick a wide blade screwdriver under and pry very gently if it gets stuck in places, or use a thin blade to scrape the crap that is deep in the channel,
the aim is to not wrinkle the channel,
I was told they were originally slid in the channels, and i stick to that. :)
Use a razor knife to remove old seal. Clear & seperate channel with a flat peice of teflon, abd, ( Bondo spreader works) Test fit new seals before Painting!
Putty knife....New Paint Not Here! Put some paper under the car so you can spot the paint that flakes.Grab the super glue & put the big chips back on.
you have to take one side of the hinge off, place the spring in the slot that is on the body, then hook the two front parts into the hole on the decklid, then line up the hinge and bolt back down. Careful though it will fight ya a bit.
Im having a problem with aligning front bonnet/hood. Its sticking up by a good 10 mm and not flush. it is also hard to open it. Cheers Adam, UK

@lndaspad those tips you have to pull thru the three holes in the corners. Kinda tough. Did you pop them thru?

You can actually get a block of wood and rubber mallet and hammer the channel down to keep the seal in.
Hope I answered that question, let me know
