@OktoberSunset: yeah, but normally the nests are in trees, and the ducklings fall on soft ground/fallen leaves and twigs/ whatever, not a concrete sidewalk where a person might accidentally harm them. That's why the guy did it in the first place (there was a blog he wrote explaining this)
The ducks actually don't need to be caught. A duckling can fall uninjured from almost any height. They are so light, they reach terminal velocity very quickly, so a drop from a few feet or a drop from a 20 feet is the same for a duckling. That's why they jump, cos they can just drop any height, even if that guy wasn't there, those duck would have been fine.
Amazing catches of those adorable babies...what a wonderful man and the others involved too. I wish for my faith in humanity to be restored like this all the time. Thank you!!!!!!
@OgreWorld Well ducklings will follow the first living thing they see until adulthood. If the mother jumped, they're going to follow, whether or not it's safe. So, get the mother to follow you, you get the chicks to follow you too.
Thats Awsome!!! and you can really tell how happy mother duck is at the end....watch it again, it will make you smile and wait for happy mother duck at the end
true story! Guy saw the mom jump off the ledge, and one chick follow and stun itself when it hit the pavement. He hurried out to catch the rest as they jumped. Eventually, he got the ducklings into that white box, and led the mom out to the river.
yup "next", think ure spot on...:-) nice/sweet script, well chosen little actors, multiple takes and a large audience ...BUT FALSE, even lemmings don't commit mass suicide

Does someone know why the ducklings jump? It's not like they know the guy is gonna catch em, right? Or are they suicidal

How did the ducks know to jump? I mean, if I was that small, I'd be too scared, even if someone was waiting to catch me

Nice. But the ducklings are born to jump from that distance. Ducks sometimes roast in trees.
