Quite simply, when the market loses value, it always regains that value, sooner or later. If you are retired and in your 60's, and your investments loose 50% of their value, you are hard pressed to get that back - but if you are in your 20's and are non-vested or lightly vested in the market, it's a great time to jump onboard and (potentially) reap unusually good profits. Put more simply, you get the most distance out of a rubber band when it is stretched almost to the breaking point.
