GEORGE ! GEORGE ! GEORGE ! You are THE MAN !!! I thank GOD he let us borrow you for awhile, you touched my heart with many a song !!!! You keep country music real !! GOD BLESS YOU !!
@andymccallum32 Agreed, but I'm sure George would also say he prefers Alan's version. This was more about him honoring Alan Jackson as an artist more than anything.
It's George's little melodic twist on "how the boy don't always get the girl" that kills me. It's different than in the original version, and it really adds some pain.
I love George, don't get me wrong, but this song just sounds off to us because we're so used to hearing AJ do it. Now, TexasLia, I agree with you about Swift, Underwood, Urban, and all these new singers are not country. Country is supposed to be filled with love, hurt, and life. Nobody will EVER be as country as Merle, George, Hank, Faron, Freddie, and Conway.
Im sorry, GJ is one of the best performers in country but the best voice? Please dont confuse a great performer with a great singer. There are major differences.
@corybently i hope your not serious how do you define performing if it being to put on an album and love every song on it i call that having a great voice and knowing how to sing and George did that with all his albums so maybe your confused or just don't know real talent either way i strongly disagree George was is and always will be known as a great singer with an unbeliveable 1 of a kind voice the closest i have heard to him is Vern but they are different both great though
I love George Jones. That being said, I can't call him the greatest country singer ever. The greatest country singer ever? Really? There are to many to choose from. Does G.J. have some of the best of the country songs ever? YES !... But as far as singing and I mean real singing in the genre... How about Ronnie Dunn of K&B, Randy Owens of Alabama and Duane Allen of the Oak Ridge Boys... like them or not, they are the best singers... not necassarily the best songs, but really the best singers!
please don't compare owens and allen to george jones, the man practically invented the modern style of country singing. he has those classic songs because of his voice. ronnie dunn does have a great voice but he is still not in jone's league.
the man invented the modern style of country singing? Really? Let me ask Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood or Rascal Flatts..... They all sound country to me..... NOT! And by the way, there is really no comparison... George Jones is George Jones, plain and simple... All I was saying was there is no doubt better singers (and I'm talking real singers) who have come and gone in the country genre... but George Jones is without a doubt one of the best artist !
swift, underwood, and rascal flatts are not country music as far as i'm concerned, i was referring to the real deal like george strait or alan jackson. jones is one of the best because he is a real singer, you could make an argument that his equals are patsy cline or elvis but not someone like owens or allen, there clearly inferior vocalists
I don't care what they say about George Jones sorry but in my book this the best and he will always be my best now and forever.but Alan. sing good too.
umm.. they sing it in the same key so how can one have a better range? and sorry, but when Jones sings he owns. He's bought it here big time. And he brings... hey! a little respect for a guy who sounded exactly like a steel guitar when he was Alan's age... that's another reason why the comparison doesn't make sense. Let's hear Alan after surviving what GJ has! Hope he does/doesn't have to! I bet Alan would agree too!
I love this song so much and I feel George is second to Alan (only with this song of course). This song is so meaningful and no truer words were ever spoken. We'd always love a happy ending, just like in the hero movies.
We finally met him at Renfro Valley a few years ago and it was amazing to hear and see the admiration the audience had for him when he walked out on the stage and just made his first lick on his guitar. Fabulous. Thank you for posting. -Paula
BigB - I met George. Alan has never been here to Renfro Valley but, who knows - he may be there sometime in the future, if we're lucky. George is a regular each year and he and Loretta Lynn always do two days' shows when they each have their own concerts. Very exciting - and I am still looking forward to Gene Watson coming back this year. - Paula
