There are few kc 135 that can be refueled in the air. at my base we have 63 135 and only 8 or have the ability to be refueled in the air. But they hold over 180,000 pounds of fuel so its hardly ever needed

Pissing contest aside, the Harrier GR7 is one of the few current service jets that hasen't been pitted against the F22. Why? because it would put it to shame! It is more agile, has a greater payload, in the right hands (Royal Navy), it can out smart any other fighter. If you want a demo, whatch some vids on the Faulklands......and before you say "Oh yes but the F22 has stealth technology, the Harrier couldn't even find it". The F22's stealth technology was developed by BAe Systems. The Brits!

You need a top secret security clearence just to work on the aveonics. More agile? Again, that's completely untrue. The Raptor has thrust vectoring something no Brit plane can match. BTW the Harrier is being brushed aside for the F-35 joint strike fighter. The F-35, again which is REPLACING the Harrier GR7/GR9 is the downgraded less able version of the F-22.

The Raptor carries AIM-120 AMRAAM mid-long range missiles. BTW the list of countries that already have committed to buy the F-35 is the UK, Italy, Netherlands, Canada, Turkey, Australia, Norway, Denmark, Singapore, and Israel. Wrong, the F-35 is not, it's just cheaper. It cost too much to make the F-22. There's no need for such an advanced jet because there's no competition to keep making the jets that advanced. They have decided to make the F-35 which has a single engine, carries less munitions and it's slower than the F-22. F-22 cost $140 million vs the F-35 at the cheaper $83 million per aircraft. F-22 FTW

The KC-10 is an HDLD (High Demand Low Density) asset. There aren't enough to go around the globe and keep us mission effective. That is why the KC-135 is so heavily used to support the air-refueling mission. However it is an old airframe that is requiring more and more dollars per hour to operate as more expensive maintenance is required to keep it flying. That is why we started the KC-X project, to find a tanker to replace the 135 and run at a fraction of the price at the same ops tempo.
