October 26, 1989 was delivery of first HP B747, tail number N531. Service to HNL began on November 16 of 1989. Second B747 N533 delivered 11/8/89. Third B747, N532 delivered 7/7/90. Fourth B747 delivered N534 delivered 8/16/90. Crewed with 16 flight attendants and one onboard Inflight service Manager. 747s were flown to; JFK, LAS, PHX, HNL and NGO and were also used extensively to fly US troops to and from 1st Gulf War.
Great video, rare stuff. Does anyone know whose livery that is on the foreground a/c at 1:08? Looks like it could be 146, but I hear prop noises so perhaps a Dash 8?
First of all. It was not called AMERICAN WEST. It was AMERICA WEST. Second of all, U.S AIRWAYS and AMERICA WEST merged together to create ONE!

I wasn't even born yet when this video was shot...I didn't even know who American West was until recently when I found out U.S Airways bought them.

Man - what a disaster those 747s' were for AW. Those aircraft - on top of the action over in Kuwait at the time - damn near destroyed the company !

Saw them at HNL the following year. Back then, AmWest even had some -400s on order.

Awesome! I had no idea that America West ever operated any 747s! Or that they had any long-haul routes to use them on.

what do you mean rare??

@vincentator2
Rare aka they were around for less than three years. So I'd consider videos exactly this: rare.
Ryan,
thanks for all those brilliant videos from the past! Don't stop uploading them!

Didn't they put these on a route to Japan? Nagoya I think.

Amazing! Did it seem to you that the first one had a longer roll?
mizzouluvr 3 months ago
@mizzouluvr, much! That was the end of the runway that you see there when the gear is retracting
@Springbok295, I saw a comment on Airliners that stated Cactus 70 Heavy flew PHX-LAS-HNL-NGO
RyanBomar 3 months ago
@RyanBomar yea wow the difference in the roll is huge, is it because of the weights or number of flaps? what causes this?
