I'm also looking for a footswitchable, dual level attenuator. I hear what you say about AB switching, but would prefer a neater, simpler setup (the reason I use a single channel amp)!
I reckon you'd have a real winner if you could design one, especially considering the quality and pricing of your product.
@cosmshaman Thank you for your very kind comments! While WE agree with your assessment, it is important for the actual USER community to share their thoughts on performance with each other.
We are just trying to bring great product at a great price to everyones attention.
Attenuators in and of themselves cannot do damage to an amp. Generally what you get is the ability to run your amp at HIGH levels for prolonged periods of time. Many amps, particularly vintage amps are not in the proper condition for this hard use. Certainly running an amp hard contributes to faster wearing out of your power tubes, but then you couldn't run your amp that hard without an attenuator... this is why people think the attenuator caused the problem.
Hi. I've found this product on a NZ website and was wondering if it is safe to use with my Marshall Jubille 25/50? This may be a silly question, but I've heard some horror stories with attenuators. Thanks
I think that this would be alot better and more useable if u replaced the toggle switches with push buttons like those on a guitar stompbox, that way u could click off some attenuation for a volume boost for leads when playing live. Can one be custom ordered with footswitch instead of toggle switch types, I would gladly pay the extra cost? thanks
@joepete77 It was a design decision we had to make in the begininng..... it certainly could be used as you describe. The design would take a bit of thought as you would have to use a resistor with the switch so that you could quiet down the POP you'd get if switched while playing. I suspect you'd be better off all the way around using an A/B switch to do this. A is straight thru while B would channel thru the Power Plug.
This looks very interesting and I like it. However, for the demo, I really wish you would leave the guitar volume up and keep it sustaining while you engage the db switches rather than silencing the guitar, engaging the switch, then playing again. That way the decrease in volume is more audible, even with the camcorder condenser mic.
@pupstop1 What you want to listen for in the demo is how the tone stays THE SAME throughout attenuation ranges. You don't even have to LIKE the tone on the demo....... Just notice that it doesn't change! THAT is the mark of an attenuator doing what it is SUPPOSED to do!
@bjlotus From what our users tell us, this is the most transparent attenuator out there. We didn't go for all bells and whistles on the Power Plug for two reasons: 1 - to keep it as transparent as possible and 2 - to keep it affordable. Check out the ad we run on ebay for this and then check our feedback. EVERYBODY is lovin' the Power Plug!
@MrGuitarfreek07 As I said in a previous comment - it WILL work but I cannot recommend that you turn your amp up past about half way! The case of the unit will get HOT!! If you want to test a unit at higher power, I will sell you 2 at half price (this will give you up to -24db attenuation, which is ALOT)! I will give you a 50% discount to test them. With 2 units in series you can go from 120 watts down to 1/2 watt in 4 steps - 30 watts, 8 watts, 2 watts, 1/2 watt. They are made for 100 watt max.
@navdave - Sorry Dave, it doesn't work that way. In series you get up -24db attenuation. Thats like taking a 50 watt amp down to 1/4 watt. Are there any 200 watt amps out there besides SVTs or big Bass amps? Even then they can be used, you just have to watch the power you put thru it.

Hi there, this seems to be an interesting option.. have you ever compared it to other popular attenuators like thd hotplate, powerbrake, etc?
cheers!

Will this work with a 120 watt half stack?

@glprecycledsound How much are you thinking? The heat wouldn't be bad if you made some sort of stand for them, one you could mount on an amp.
Do I just email off your site or what?
Thanks

So will two of these in series give you a 200W attenuator?
