As this series pans out, the backbone of the series reminds me of a classic british sci-fi series on back in the late 70s - BLAKES 7. The series was about a group of renegade rebels fleeing from the chase of an totalitarian Federation. Maxwell parallels a character in that series, Travis, who was a decorated officer known for his "over-zealous" approach to his duty, slaughtering foes that had already surrendered.

The guy playing capt maxwell is one of the best actors in the series I think
