  • Are they really brothers?

Is their surname really Doobie ?

  • this makes me feel for a second like ("fkuc UK rock!") lol I'm totally kidding!

    Love The Rolling Stones 4EVR!

  • Esta music marcou my eleven years and 1972. Listen and the Music. Very, Very Good.

  • DAT BASS

  • 2011 ♥

  • Great MUSIC!

  • my first concert is these guys FML

  • Excellent

  • that rhythm guitar is so out of tune.

  • Saw 'em in '82, La Crosse, Wisconsin and they were good, but nothing like this @ 2:58 and on...

  • Thank You, Doobie Brothers, from Finland, Europe!

  • mary jane

  • My first concert ever it was The Doobie Brothers.... I miss those days.

  • Great rock band. Hope they are not cheated by producers and they live in peace and joy. Only hope.

  • love the doobies they stepped in at the last taste on Minnnesota on the capital grounds in o2 when another band pulled out St. Paul. I remember cause my dad just died, and my gf disowned me..

  • I think the DOOBIE BROS HAS THE GREATEST HARMONY FROM THE OLD DAYS

  • yay! sunday morning still in bed with no hangover listenin to goodstuff, does life get any better??

  • stop bitching about the quality and enjoy the music

  • This video is awesome

  • great song... althought shitty quality... that's why i prefer mp3's :P Thumbs up anyway...

  • @SasinekPL

Well, the shittiness of the audio has nothing to do with the medium, it's a poor recording. An example of a poor quality medium would, in fact, be an mp3.

  • I'm from the 2000's generation, just discovered the Doobie Brothers! God, our music is shit! Why can't we have great bands like the DB nowdays??

I think I even recognise some of the tracks from my parents playing the CDs lol

    THE ROCK!!!

  • @f0bfan4eva I am fortunate to have been born in 1961, and I agree, the music of the 60s and 70s was really sent from heaven abovve, straight to the artists, that's what it was in the 1960s and 70s! I feel really sorry for the kids today! About all we have today is the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, and they started in the 80s!

  • OMG, slow down already!

  • 2 years before "Trampled Under Foot", at least Jimmy Page an equal opportunity thief!

  • @NPRMc its only stealing if they use the song verbatum but they didnt britney spears stole a song from joan jett theres the perfect example

  • @4:04 I thought it was excellent.....but I need more cowbell!!!!

  • Man, the heyday of rock. A string of independent promoters, city by city. A great band like this would come to the dome or basketball arena, just torch the place, and move on to the next town before it knew what hit it. Check out "Almost Famous" if you haven't already - . "It's all happening.."

  • Rock band dlc today beatches.

  • classic song meow !!!

  • This type of music never gets old. It sounds so great as it did back in the day. lol

  • To the person below, it was Little John, you're getting him confused with Big Mike. This was right before Tom's hiatus and they were running on all cylinders.. I liked them with Michael McDonald but not as much as this.

  • I forgot that Jeff Skunk Baxter would play drums on this song so that Big John could do other percussion work. Jeff is a great guitarist and not too bad of drummer either.

  • The fucking bass guitar is sick on this song.

  • i dont know what the r+r hall of fame is waiting for they should have been inducted years ago. hope it happens soon they certainly deserve to be there

  • I don't think there was any other band that played that kind of rythm before the Doobie Brothers

  • @telasse1 if think the Doobie Brothers ´heard Santana and wanted bring a little of that into some songs, just my theory

  • Aaah yes..the pre McDonald days....great jam

  • great band ready for rock'n the rivers at the bridge near three forks in montana there gunna rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Toulouse Street and The Captain & Me - two of my favourite albums from the Seventies. Still much played today. Never understood why they were never bigger here in the UK.

  • main reason I believe percussion players should be in bands~

  • They are playing this way too fast and sloppy.

  • Excellent Video, Excellent Band. One of the Best bands ever, should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame(a long time ago). I'm not sure but it looks like Jeff 'Skunk'Baxter playing one of the drum kits. Excellent stuff. Hartley C.

  • hey man you are right as long as the doobie brother are in the rock n roll hall of fame thats evrything we all want the other bands are nothing compare to this guys long live the Doobie Brothers.

  • one of the best BANDS EVER!!!!

  • HALL OF LAME, i'd rather say. who cares about the Hall of Fame. As long as we recognise DB as a great band is fair enough. Keep rockin'. And by the way, #

hotstuffandicecream, i'll join the party :)

  • Yea Baby..........senior year. Cute girls in halter tops and bell bottom jeans. Eight track tapes playing songs like this,.What a life! I'd go back. How many of the 70's rocking You Tube fans want to go with me?

  • I MUST WRITE THIS IN CAPITOL LETTERS BECAUSE IT IS UNBELIEVABLE.

THE DOOBIE BROTHERS ARE "NOT" IN THE ROCK IN ROLL HALL OF FAME.

Along with CHICAGO. At least for me it totally debunts the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

If these two bands aren't there, what bands are there which are less deserving?

No trip to see this place for me. Rock on Doobies.

  • What the f,,,, The Doobie Brothers NOT in the Hall of Fame and some poppy singers like Madonna are? F... the Hall of Fame! Is Madonna has anything to do with R&R, then I am the Pope!

  • Tiran Porter, one of the best bass players to grace our ears.... truly!

And playin an old Thunderbird Bass.

I love you man, you and Entwistle inspired me to be the bass player I am today.

    Thank You.

  • hey this is great footage. Four guys on percussion and Tom rocking out on guitar solos; fantastic jam. What is the source of the footage and concert? was it on TV? Don't remember it. Thanks for posting.

  • One of the most amazing bands in history with a huge string of hits in their day.

  • Kiss 1975, Didn't have to do any research because I attended all the shows mentioned in my post. If you caught the Johnstonless Doobies at MSG it had to be the same show I attended on 10/31/75. Tommy definitely came back in 1976 for the "Takin' It To The Streets" tour but only participated in shows on the west coast. In 1976 Tommy also made TV appearances with the band on the Dinah Shore show and the very first Peoples Command Performance prime time special.

  • For Heavens Sake Get These Guys Into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame...Its way

over due if its true they aren't already

  • @leycyp : They're in for vocal group.

  • I second the motion...I love the Doobies....

  • What ?!? : Los Doobies are not in the Hall of Fame ?!?...Hard/impossible to believe...

  • @leycyp For Keavens Sake? What accent is that?

  • 5 stars !

  • I love the part @ 4:10!

    HOT!

  • 3 words: Total Classic Tuneage!

  • Hot as Hell

  • too good quality

  • doobie bro what more can you say!!

  • privet........your not even close on that...u suck

  • My high school's marching band show this year is the Doobie Brothers, and this song is in the show, along with takin' it to the streets, listen to the music, and china grove.

  • I've never seen Skunk play the drums before. Cool!

  • he did with steely dan as well

  • Another great rock band that should be put in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame for sure!!!!

  • @saanzacs I know, the RRHF is kind of a farce, but thats just my opinion .

  • @saanzacs how come they are not in tne rock hall of fame,, who are the ones that decided that

  • :D lol

  • What a group.....

  • well, seeeing the oldest version here from ´71 so far, and Led Zep´s Trampled Undrefoot is from ´75 album :) but then again they said "half of the stuff is old" :)

( but maybe not that old :) maybe :)

  • What else is amazing about these guys is, since 1987, they've raised around 2 mil. from benefit concerts for American's veterans foundations. If you haven't seen them live lately, they still go like all hell.

    The Veterans Network

  • I missed seeing them back in their heyday

'72-'75 but will go see them this summer

for the unheard of price of $35 for pre-

ferred seating! 3/5 of The Toulouse Street

    lineup and no Michael MacDonald!!!

  • you dont know me but Im a mcdouble I was wasted in this living grease, you dont know my kind in your world, very soon the double cheese,Im blind and I dont really like this double cheese

  • @TheVeteransNetwork That's awesome. They've also done benefits all through the years for hospitalized children. Even when the band members have been fighting, they've put it to the side to go and do that. Good for them. Makes me proud they're from my town.

  • @TheVeteransNetwork The government should pay for it's vets...what a bunch of crap, having to ask the people...start demanding it...take it to the people!!!

    Victory 4 the vets. V

  • Great song, bad performance.

  • Classic milestone but one of the worst live sesions ever at least, supporting and lead singers

  • Yes....just....yes.

  • i love this song :D

  • does the beggining of this remind anybody of

    "trampled under foot"?

  • Classic is,as classic does.

  • The "Doobs" were a "trip"....litterally....

Loved them....still play their music....much better than today's crap....

  • and their pants fit too lol

  • Amen to that. Today's music is uninspiring for the most part. Aside from a handful of talent, the rest get out there by knowing people and hiding behind top notch recording equipment. The Doobies are a classic that did it right...they need Michael McDonald back though, lol. He was a nice ingredient to what they already had established. :)

  • I was here. They sounded like I had done sound...Sheesh!!

  • io c'ero oinorab ancora no

  • rock,....de los 69` buenisima y otros tantos

  • chiuauaua

  • lots of energy in this version! must have been those 'pick-me-ups' between sets

  • omg, this is awesome!

  • Wooow...I say them on this tour in Seattle, sometime in 75ish...it sounded a whole lot different LIVE.. : )

  • I love how out-of-tune this sounds. Fuck digital recording.

  • I agree wholeheartedly. If you talk to any audio engineer or any audiophile, they will say that analog recording sounds much better, clearer, and more vintage. It FUCKIN ROCKs! Screw digital recording; it's too bad everything nowadays has switched to digital formatting.

  • Well, to be fair, there are some advantages to digital. It allows recordings to be reproduced many times without audio degradation, and it makes it much easier and cheaper to archive recordings without taking up too much space.

But yeah, as far as actual sound goes, I much prefer analogue.

  • Tape's probably worth a fortune now, even if you can find it. Probably a few little boutique places still turning it out for the price of a new house...two years ago that is!

  • Professional digital recording simply captures whatever you put into it. If you recorded an analogue synth into a computer, blindfolded listeners would find it impossible to tell if it were really being played or not. That's why you can enjoy the sound of analogue recordings from a 24-bit digital soundfile. The thing with analogue gear (tape, circuits, valves, etc) is that it actually ADDS nice harmonics and compression to the sound, and contributes other interesting and chaotic behavours.

  • I STILL bump this shit! FULL ON!

Windows down, radio at volume earthquake!

    THAT'S WHAT'S UP!!!!

  • awsome and hanson does a awsome cover!

  • It's all the blues. And real musicians know that everything else springs from there. They also know that the musicians who started it all had a saying, " The blues is color blind."

  • how many drummers do they have? i counted 4 on stage.

  • lol im not sure, but i know that theres a percussionist, maybe two. they all play different things :)

  • One of my fav bands. My dad used to play their songs all the time in his band along with CCR, The Beatles, The Eagles....many more. Awesome video!!!

  • the phrasing of the singing reminds me of trampled underfoot by zeppelin

  • And I thought I was the only one who noticed. :D

    Pretty strange.

  • WOW! Great guitar jam on that version!!!

  • loove to play this song on guitar. It's just so genius made!!!

  • No shit! Jeff Baxter on drums!

  • Fantastic!!! 5*****

  • Tiran Porter, Cornelius Bumphus and Willie Weeks are the only African American member s of the Doobies. Tommy Johnston, Pat Simmons definitely were influenced by AA artists.

  • i thought the doobie brothers were black, i guessed wrong.

  • black? haha na the only Great black classic rock legend was hendrix. unless im missing someone?

  • This is great stuff. Booker T and the MGs is great too. White dudes can play funk and soul sometimes too.

  • powerful song till now

  • exelente

  • They were on speed this night! great song just a bit too fast.

  • I have the 16 track multitrack studio version of this song

  • wow i was -8 years old but i love it.. real music makes it through all age groups

  • you were born in 1961 oh my god!!!just jokin !!!

  • there was a house remix of this ralph lawson used to play it at back to basics in leeds them were the days 93/94 leeds every saturday night with huggy in the basement

  • 1975,,, Wow my feshman year.

  • nice

  • look up booker t and the mgs

    green unions

    very good classic rock song

  • with the ever-godlike tiran porter on bass. EPIC!

  • great great great !

  • Great jam! Nice to hear an extended live version after all these years...

  • Thanks for posting such a rocked-out version of this. Scratch the surface, and real virtuosity underlies these rock groups.

  • ClusterFlux, Yes that's definitely Skunk playing drums on this song. This fact is mentioned above in this very same thread.

  • They were SSSSOOOOOOO much better pre-Michael McDonald.

  • abso-freakin-lutely!

  • A Doobie Brothers classic. What else needs to be said?

  • Right on. Bought The Captain & Me @ Barnes & Noble. A excellent variety of styles from rock to jazz, r&b, country, and everything in between. BTW, this was my 1st Doobie CD purchase 2day. I'm 25 and love classic rock

  • Very Nice!

  • Love how they push the tempo--very energetic! This is great!

  • Man. This video is awesome. The percussion is not only smashing, but groundbreaking. They were a real treat live. Thanks for posting it!

  • This is rare Doobies footage indeed and from the same show as the Neil's Fandango/Road Angel video also posted on youtube. I have a forty-five minute VHS version of this same show with additional tracks. I always thought this footage to be from late 1974 but it could be from Feb 75 as posted. It was on this tour when Skunk learned Steely Dan would no longer be touring and became a full time Doobie Brother.

  • Is that Skunk playing drums?

    cool

  • McDonald is a talented singer, no question about it. But this band died when he replaced Johnston. You guys are right on, the McDonald version of the Doobs pales in comparison. You can't create a great sound like they had with Johnston and switch oars in midstream.

  • if you grew up in the 70's trying to learn to play guitar, it's guaranteed you tried to learn this song.

  • (Solo) Patrick Simmons - So Wrong (1982?) and the other one of the band????? Kenny Loggins

I have on vinyl. Nice records too.

  • definitely!! i've had the 12" version of "so wrong" since 1983, and its been a weekend jam ever since!!!

  • You guys are a trip! If you look closely playing drums on the left side of the screen IS JEFF BAXTER! You can clearly see him during the drum solos near the end of the song.

  • True but I believe Tom was not touring by 76 and McDonald was the new voice of the Doobies by then. Baxter recorded Stampede with the band in 1975. So if it's not 1974 then it's 1975. I saw them at Madison Square Garden in 1976 and was shocked there was no Tom Johnston on stage but instead some deep voiced soul singer, what a horrible dissapointment that was!

  • Kiss1975-The Doobies headlined a show at MSG on Halloween night 1975. The Outlaws and Poco opened the show for the Doobies. This is probably the show you saw at MSG without Tom Johnston. Frank Zappa was playing the same night next door at the Felt Forum. In 1976 the only Doobies metro New York area shows were at the Nassau Coliseum and Princeton University. Tom Johnston came back for the Takin It To The Streets tour but only did a handful of shows before leaving again due to health issues. .

  • Jocko907 - Your right did some research after my comment! Tom Johnston is the man! Thanks!

  • Funny how a lot of people associate the Doobies with Michael McDonald. Their real true sound was forged with Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons the helm before he ever came along. I never cared much for Baxter either and thought he was overrated as a musician. I heard him do a steel guitar solo on Black Water once that sounded horrible. McDonald kind of gave them a shot in the arm when Tom left and they enjoyed some revived commercial success but their tru sound was forged long before.

  • Great vid but it ain't from 1976. No Baxter, no McDonald, but Knudsen is there. From 1974 is more like it.

  • Baxter is on another video somewhere on youtube playing Road Angel and Neal's Fandango. More like 1975.

  • Nah, if it were '75 Baxter would be in this vid and he ain't. '74 for sure.

  • He is playing the drums! on this vid, look at

the end of the song, Left of screen on the drums

  • Definately 1974 Tom was gone from touring by 1976! This song started the whole guitar rock thing for me! It took me from The Osmonds and The Jackson 5 (yes I admit it)to Rock metal and landed me as a certified KISS nut! I believe it was J5 on the juke box in my neighborhood hang out! I spent a lot of dimes on this bad boy!

  • this song has nothing in common with trampled underfoot except tempo. Trampled is powered by a picked guitar riff and funk keyboards. This is powered by an all out Rhythm Guitar with Johnston doing typical pentatonic lead.. ridiculous comparison. clueless!

  • Thank God I'm not the only one who thinks Michael MacDonald kills bands with his blandness and constant straining at the top of his vocal range. He did the same to Steely Dan. Another great Rock band blanded out by his backing vocal presence. This Vid shows the Doobies at their rocking best before his bland soul killed the fun...

  • Vintage Doobies at their very best!!!!

  • didn't johnston leave in 74 with health problems??

  • yea...thats when the band changed to micheal mcdonald joined and the band moved toward the soul movement then he came back and they became a super band!!!

  • 1976.

  • health problems=drug problems...but yea.

  • He left in '75 due to drug and health problems (an ulcer) and that's when they invited Michael McDonald to join. Tom returned about a year later but Michael was there in a big way by then. Tom stuck it out for a little while until he realized he was no longer the main dude and split.

  • i wish i'm in the front of their stage now!!!

  • WOW!! Great Video!! I never knew Skunk hit the drums!! anyone know where this was??

  • Seems funny to see this--the hair, and a more active group onstage back in the day...then to see The Skunk working the drum kit like that...then again, whoever thought he would also be a respected Defense analyst?

  • man, the fusion of funk and rock creates some of the best music ever. the doobie brothers, funkadelic/parliament...all good stuff

  • ONE ONE AWESOME!!

  • i likeee it !!!!!

    Much
