@edmorgan3000 Suspenders in the UK are generally known as the elastic parts with hooks that hold stockings up. I guess Americans would know them as garter belts maybe? Basically, they're associated with lingerie rather than braces, so you can imagine what people were thinking when they imagined a guy at the office wearing shorts and a garter belt. :)

In order to have a good argument, the true nature of knowledge on the subject is essential. The reason why Sarah said 'British' in the film was due to the fact that they had choices in the UK and that it did not have to be Scotland. But they have fallen in love with Edinburgh once they relocated, we must add.
Why were they so shocked at the word "suspenders"? What does that word mean to the Scottish people?
