the E3 uses the Boeing 707 airframe but is an aircraft in its own right, especially given the millions of dollars spent on its conversion and the millions of dollars in exotic surveillance equipment in it. This is an E3.
that was way more than 30 feet, but still awesome, you'd have to be on the runway for the plane to pass 30 feet above you on a normal landing. The airplane is usually still 50-100 feet above ground when it crosses the runway threshold. This would be way more scary if it was a very rainy, windy day, I know lol.
I was 'bombed' by an EA-6B Prowler near NAS Whidbey; he snuck behind me, got 100 feet over and firewalled the throttles, scared the shit out of me...but it was fun as hell.
Back when my dad was USAF and we were stationed at Scott AFB IL we went past the stop point for the runway to get back to our house. Right when my mom went past the line the siren went off. She didn't know what to do so she slowed down. The next thing you know, there's an F-4G on approach right over our heads at maybe 100 ft. I swear, I looked up at the plane and the pilots were looking at us laughing. It was almost as loud as a C-5 on a takeoff run. It scared the shit out of my sister.
@ instrucctablesderin they have the flat black painted underneath the windscreens to reduce glare from the sun that glossy aircraft paint would reflect into the pilots eyes. Similar to how athletes use black face paint under their eyes.
The Awsome screamin TF-33's should be gracing our ears for a long time yet since each B-52H is powered by 8 of them! Always miss the C-141 Starlifters. There TF-33 P7's were the most powerful and seem the loudest, rated at 22.000lb thrust each! I wanna see a Buff with 8 P7's ;)
My dad was USAF. We flew on a 141 from Travis AFB to Aussie. That was the most unique flight I've ever been on. Nothing like sitting in the back, facing backwards on a platform, wearing earplugs and making 6 stops on the way for refueling. Damn, I miss that life.
That would have been neat! Ive been in a KC-135E @ our Aviation museum, pretty neat with the seats! Here in Kansas, McConell AFB is a refueling wing, so always 135's overhead! Just not the same with the CF6's. Theres a B-52D here to but cant get in it, its not been Demilitarized! Prolly rare beeing so.
One of my customers at work is a boom op on a 135 too. Good planes!
I do not understand. I shoved cargo around ORD when I was in school and I never saw a 707 without reversers on the engines. I am not trying to be a wise guy, I really want to know. I will tell you one thing I do know that most do not. The stretch DC-8's I loaded could open the inboard (2+3) thrust reversers in flight to slow the aircraft. These were 63F jets used by Flying Tigers airfreight.
Not quite 30 feet. More like 100. The aircraft usually crosses the threshold at around 50 feet and is already above the runway by the time it reaches 30 ft agl.
Hi, it is an AWACS E3 SENTRY, AIRBORNE EARLY WARNING AND CONTROL SISTEMS. the strange thing on top is a rotodome,in which a radar antena is inside, and the girl is just... beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's got nothing to do with his being European. There are a lot of Americans who also would not know what kind of plane this is. So don't make such a nationalist out of yourself. You only diminish your argument
Huh? I see an E-3 Sentry. It looks EXACTLY like an E-3 Sentry. So what if I'm wrong? Even if your irrelevant country has their own version with their own designation, why does it show ignorance on my part? There is no context in which to establish that this is not an American E-3 Sentry besides some complaining Eurofaggots in this thread. The markings aren't even visible. The only clue in the video might be the socialists babbling in some European pig latin, but they come over here all the time.
The military version is called the E-3 sentry, the civilian reference is a 707 modified for Air Force use. Please do not criticize facts when they are right.
AWACS is that giant radar you see on top of the 707. i dont know where you get your information from but where ever its from you might not wanna listen to them. that plane is infact a boeing 707
You may hate the AWACS, and the radar dome may look stupid, but they work and they work all too good. The A-10 is an ugly aircraft, but it is an extremely capable aircraft. Same with the AWACS.

godholio, u are a flaming idiot. of course it has thrust reverse. and green pilot is correct, except now the U.S. is modernizing the E-3's with ore modern fuel-efficient engines
You're either an idiot or you know me IRL. I fly on the E-3. We have no thrust reversers, and the AF has no intention of replacing the TF-33 engines because they have literally HUNDREDS of spares from re-engined KC-135s and retired C-141s. Nice try though.
To clarify, I'm on USAF E-3s. I can't speak to the NATO jets, they may have thrust reverse. But the dome controls are independent of the radar. It spins because they turn that on, the radar doesn't have to be on.
if you are on a USAF e3 then you should know they are planning to replace the current engines with 20% more efficient engines under the AMP program, which is also incorporating glass cockpits
The AMP program is a PROPOSAL from Boeing (they also had one to build more E-3s in the 90s). There are currently AMP programs being implemented on C-130s and C-5s, but NOT the E-3. It is unfunded and that's not likely to change. Look at the history of budget cuts to the 40/45 upgrade, and thats a critical upgrade. Replacing the engines isnt (it would be nice, I agree 100%). Are we done yet? Or do I have to post pictures of me on the jet to get you to stop arguing with me?
its not that i dont believe you, i was just going by what i had heard. i apologize for any hostility. i dont want to spark another debate, but i thought the c-17 was replacing the c5? (i am not in air force, i am in the army so i was just wondering)
No worries. The C-17 is smaller than the C-5, and is actually the replacement for the C-141 (retired a few years ago), and fits in between the C-130 and C-5. Its bigger than the 130, but can land in many of the same places that would wreck a C-5. Not all C-5s are being upgraded...look up the C-5M, that's the "new" upgraded model. Supposedly its night/day from the A and B models.
The engines are not off...N1 is normally up to 50% due to the drag of the flaps, plus this is an NATO E3-a, who's engines DO have reverse thrust, but not in the way to which you refer as they are older engines. It is a Czech Republic registered E-3a landing at about 130 feet above the people, quite safe. The Disc at the top is the Radar Dome which rotates when it is powered up
Its some aliens piggybacking to save fuel. You think gas prices are bad here, you should take a visit to Pluto and see if you still have a reason to complain.
And I thought I was wrong for drafting big trucks on the highway, leave it to the Martians to start piggybacking military planes, whats next siphoning the nuclear fuel from our satellites?
I live by Boeing Field in Seattle and there are two of these there. WHen they come in they fly by about that low and you can't imagine how loud they are! (unless you have heard them before, of course.) Really cool.
That would be so funny and classic if when the plane flew overhead Jesus jumped off and landed next to that guy, said, "shaka laka laka," then stole the guys girlfriend.
Nice baby at the end :D

The engines are not off...N1 is normally up to 50% due to the drag of the flaps, plus this is an NATO E3-a, who's engines DO have reverse thrust, but not in the way to which you refer as they are older engines. It is a Czech Republic registered E-3a landing at about 130 feet above the people, quite safe. The Disc at the top is the Radar Dome which rotates when it is powered up

that an E-3,its one of our military's mod for the 707 along with the KC-135, E-8, e-6, C-135, EC-135, RC135 and many more

you'd get blown off your feet from the engine if it was 30 feet!

Its some aliens piggybacking to save fuel. You think gas prices are bad here, you should take a visit to Pluto and see if you still have a reason to complain.

And I thought I was wrong for drafting big trucks on the highway, leave it to the Martians to start piggybacking military planes, whats next siphoning the nuclear fuel from our satellites?

you can see the very big radio antenna thing on the top, it´s an AWACS 707, maybe one of the NATO airplanes... still in use..

laphongtudo 4 years ago
They're mostly used for cargo now.

Thats more than 30 feet, when a big plane like this one is at 30 feet its over the runway

I live by Boeing Field in Seattle and there are two of these there. WHen they come in they fly by about that low and you can't imagine how loud they are! (unless you have heard them before, of course.) Really cool.

And I meant to add that it's called an E-3 Sentry.

Who cares abou the jet. Hot chick.
Rock7132 4 years ago 5
It's a radar dome... The jet is an Air Force 707 AWACS (Airborne Warning And Control System).
Rock7132 4 years ago
Seems like geilenkirchen!!

That would be so funny and classic if when the plane flew overhead Jesus jumped off and landed next to that guy, said, "shaka laka laka," then stole the guys girlfriend.
