There was a climate of tolerance creating a productive synergy of peoples, cultures and fields of research. Bagdad was the scientific center of the time so scientists from all over the known world went there.
Islam changes from century to century, I mean, in regards to tolerance and acceptance and varying degrees of extremism. TF can acknowledge that at a time in the distant past, Muslims were in the forefront of science, and are not currently because their ideas are not conducive to progress in today's world. Islam may well have had a golden period several hundred years ago ... but that was largely a result of the west being mired in the dark ages due to the religious theocrasy that ruled at the time. @Netruic Actually it has nothing to do with religious laws. Islamic law does not oppose scientific research. Moreover it is more tolerant towards modern science than Christianity. For example Muslims don't claim that the world is only a few thousand years old. To the opposite, Islamic countries became backward due to economic and geopolitical changes. Sharia as practiced during the Golden Age of Islam and Sharia practiced during the time when Muslim countries became backward is the same.

In the medieval Islamic empire mentioned the wealth caused it to be leading in science. The scientist where rarely Arabs. There where primarily conquered people (mostly Persians) and immigrants. There was a climate of tolerance creating a productive synergy of peoples, cultures and fields of research. Bagdad was the scientific center of the time so scientists from all over the known world went there.

Islam may well have had a golden period several hundred years ago ... but that was largely a result of the west being mired in the dark ages due to the religious theocrasy that ruled at the time. It was religion that kept the western Europe in the dark ages. In other words it was just a comparitive thing.
Now the situation is reversed and it is Islam that is repressing the development of its adherents.
Science and Dogma don't mix.

I agree with a lot of what tf00t has to say, although I have disagreed with him on some things more recently. I hope u realise that not everyone who agrees with tf00t on some things necessarily agrees with him on everything. There r some fanboys out there, yes,but please don't say we're all the same.
I haven't been following tf00ts comments on this issue enough to comment on this vid. That said, any religious view that causes people to ignore facts because of preconceived bias is harmful.

I watched a vid the other day where a muslim scientist had to try not to laugh as the muslim he was "debating" said that the eath was flat, twice the size of the sun and was stationary. He based his "knowledge" on the koran stating; "the science they teach in school is a heretic innovation that has no confirmation in the koran." Adding that; "Anything that has no indication in the koran is false." The ignorance was stunning.

He invented the basics of science, the process of experimentation and methodology. This framework of science could not be accurate not reliable without these two components. Also, that was back when science was still young, and there were terrible misunderstandings. Look up the Almagest and you'll see what I mean. Once science progressed it advanced far beyond the simple science that was in the Quran.

The islam of today and the islam of the european dark ages is not the same religion. The biggest division imho was within the last thirty years as the theocratic powers that be within the muslim world decided that the west was the devil, and everything pertaining to western society had to be, at best, shunned, and at worst destroyed.
In recent years it has become so bad that if a single person in the west does something "blasphemical" their country must burn and their people killed.

Do you not recognize the difference between the present tense "keep" and the past tense "was"?
