Please come to Australia and talk to the Victorian State Government about phasing out the brown coal power stations in the La Trobe Valley. Emissions from brown coal fired plants are much higher than for comparable black coal plants, with the world's worst polluting power station being the brown coal fueled Hazelwood Power Station in Victoria. Our politicians are not taking the hard decisions needed to reduce CO2 emissions from coal.

@1000frolly Victoria is losing some of the manufacturing capacity due to the high Aus$ = less industrial power consumption. Electricity consumption has been flatlining the past few years. The Highlands of Victoria is ideal for wind farms, and the Victorian coast has potential for wave and tidal power generation with a few prototypes in operation. Funny enough, the layers of brown coal sit atop and help insulate geothermal power potential in the La Trobe valley and the Otways.

This charlatan, Hansen, should be sued for professional malpractice - last month he & his GISS announced that October 2008 was the hottest October on record. Turns out the reason for the freak figures was that scores of temperature records from Russia and elsewhere were not based on October readings at all. Figures from the previous month had simply been carried over and repeated two months running.

He is a fraud and has committed massive errors like this many times. His lies are legion !
