Nowadays, there are many different technologies available for people with hearing loss. It is getting better as the time goes by. However, there are always some setbacks, which the failure rate is extremely low. Problem is the Deaf population, who are rebelling against CI, are only looking at low statistics and not looking at the larger population especially with people, who lost their hearing at a later age, doing very well with CI. Many of those people do not interact with the Deaf society.
Cochlear Implants can be harmed by Sports or Objects

My deaf friend shared her Cochlear Implants injury experience with me at the restaurant. She said it can be danger if any sports or objects can hit Cochlear Implants on nerves system to lead shutting down.
@mnkstrxx, congratulation on getting bilateral cochlear implants. I am a sequential bilateral cochlear implantee, which means I did not get both implants at the same time. On my left, I had it for over a year and 2 months; meanwhile, my right for about 6 months. Both had been going very well and starting to hear naturally. In other words, no more robotic sounds. I am looking forward to hear your persepctives and experiences. Again, Congrats!
@Hancocklicata, that is a very rare occurrence and unfortunate situation with the person, who had mold issue. Most of the people with CI are doing very well.
@WisDeaf nah, many deaf got old tech it is bad yes true, til i meet new face with new CI, they love it! what like before what different about "T.v" old t.v white and black mean CI is bad and old not smooth and clear etc... mean tv got new flat and HD same thing CI N5 it is new! i meet new face people with new CI they love i, i feel like WTF
