I think that what you played works as a great post chorus, and even better as the last chorus of the sawng. Using your alternative set of lyrics in the last chorus re-engages the listener and also paints a more detailed story in our heads.

I also just realized that the line could be "We're dialing it back to a time a remember that feels so long ago..." or something like that. You can interchange "time" so you don't use it twice either way really.

everything is awesome! but "time" two times in two successive lines seems a little too much "time"

That's the only change you need to make. Replace that first "time" with "place" and you're golden.
