In the E30's the 318i has 85kW/115PS of power and the 318is has the same NA 1.8l engine, has a higher compression ratio and produces 100/103kW-140PS of power the 318is only comes in a coupe variant.
@ov3rsteer So the e36 with the M44 which weighs nearly 200kg more than the e30 and has only 4 more horsepower smokes the e30?? Dont think so! The e30 will allways be the better drivers car.
@Flarry1 Wouldn't agree, e36 has better handling (neutral steering) and e30 tends to understeer. On track e36 318is smokes e30! I know it weights too much and it hasn't acc like e30 318is, but it has better handling like I said.

@theallmightyboosh It grips very vell, but even with same engine e36 handles better than e30 (it tends to understeer, more than e36). Know the difference, I've driven both of them.
@R32SKYLINEBWD The early E36 318IS's had the best engine. its the same M42 as the E30 but with a single belt and forged pistons. My E30 has the M44 engine with M42 ECU and is meant to be putting out around 150bhp but I wish it had the E36's M42 engine
I guess that the M43/M44 was used on the E36 where the M42 (IS) was only used in the E30. The difference between the 318i and the 318IS is that the I has 8 valves and the IS 16.
Auf jeden Fall ahst du nicht mehr das original 4,10er Differential drin, deins ist viel länger. Dann noch falsche Reifen und einen gesund abweichenden Tacho und schon sieht das viel mehr aus als die 136 PS schaffen.
yea iim gonna get mine remapped soon - apparently 318is' will reach 160bhp with a remap so that should be sweeet! i need a rear diff well bad tho my back ends all over the place!
ive got a full powerflow stainless steal system on it which does help. and you can rev them to just over 6 1/2 thousand revs and he's shifting slightly short of that - and that does make a big difference. if u tap the limiter it fly's off in the next gear. i'l try nd put a video up - i havent got one of the rev counter but u'l hear its a bit faster.
that is super fast wow Respect only a 2.0 16v for a BMW

note: M42 it was also used in E36 but it have 2 versions till 1993 M42 1.8L
after 1993 till 1996 M42 1.9L
in 1996 till 1998 the M44 1.9L
the M40 and M43 are for 318i

You would need to grab one of those 100kW motors found in the 318is. Locating one of those engines who prove to be difficult.
