Why does griffith park now have a stinson wurliTzer 165 replica, Instead of this today?? I would rather hear the old north tonawanda organ rather than a newer band organ replica. Why dont they have this band organ anymore
@anglerfly This organ "gave up the ghost" (became unplayable) in 1986 and it was removed. The Stinson organ was installed a couple years later. I like the North Tonawanda organ too but I prefer the Stinson... just my opinion.
@anglerfly I think the North Tonawanda organ is still playable. It plays 150 rolls. I'm not sure if they play it sometimes or if they always play the Stinson.
@darvozz according to the owner, the North Tonawanda has pump problems and so hasn't played in several years. He also hates to play it anyway, likening the sound to a "French accordion band". I disagree! That model organ is one of my favorites... if only I won the lottery!
Where is this now? Maybe this organ has something to do with why griffeht park has a stinson 165 BAND ORGAN. This is military, thats why it sounds diffrent from glen echo park.
They're both in Los Angeles. The carousel at Griffith Park is still there and has a Stinson 165. There's been a small new carousel at Lincoln Park, but I saw it was for sale, so I don't know if it will remain there.
IT sounds like the stinson a little bit.

@anglerfly This organ is now with a private owner in New Hampshire.

WurlITzer made it, so why does it say ross davis?
anglerfly 1 year ago
@anglerfly Ross Davis put his name on the facade because he owned the carousels (and organs) at Griffith Park and Lincoln Park.

Whats that carousel? griffith park already has a carousel that has 2 organs.
anglerfly 1 year ago
This organ was at that same carousel until 1986. Before it was there it was at Lincoln Park.

I heard recordings of this organ on the Wurlitzer 165 tune index web page done by Matthew Caufield, who knows 165 music inside and out. Great stuff!
