Yeah, when I got a replacement I bought a protective keyboard cover and a hard plastic shell to put on the outside. I think the plastic shell was interfering with ventilation so I took it off, but the keyboard cover remains in place.
wow that sucks. My shiny acer has 5 years accidental damage cover so every 12 months a hammer gets "accidentally" dropped through the screen ... then through the keyboard. If they are going to shove those warranty's in your face, you might as well take advantage, eh?
Well, I hope your insurance doesn't stop buying you new computers. Wouldn't it suck to find out they were cutting your benefits after the hammer dropped?
I have my new computer now, and I'm in the process of transferring all of my data from the old to the new. I hope to begin posting more videos soon.
Actually, because the accident was my fault, it voids the warranty. That Applecare protection plan was worthless!
The good news is that when I bought my renter's insurance policy I bought an add-on for my computer. So everything should be okay by next week, I hope.
In the mean time I'm using my really, really old backup computer to type this comment. Sigh.
I don't keep any beverage around my laptop. I think spills are inevitable; and they can be fatal to a laptop.
I use my laptop as though it were a desktop. I keep it on a Rubbermaid Laptop Stand that I bought at Wal-Mart for about $16.00.
The stand elevates the laptop and inclines the keyboard, making it more ergodynamic.

I didn't know it was possible to buy a protective keyboard cover for a laptop.
I'd like to have one for my laptop. I'll check it out.
A laptop is a major investment (for me), but they are so vulnerable.
Thanks, danobrienmuzyka!

Yeah, that's why it helps to cover your laptop under a homeowner's insurance or renter's insurance policy, if that option is available. It saved me!

Thanks! - Good info!
I'll look into renter's insurance in my area.
