from what i recall, santa is a Christian saint who gave some poor people some stuff, hence the giving presents thing. And obviously fancy lights wern't around a few hundred years ago. So yerr, its Christian, except the tree, that's pagan...

The early church never celebrated xmas or birthdays. Dec 25th is the birth of Mythras, the pagan sun god.
Christmas was also banned by the Protestant Church in 1652.
The xmas u know and love is actually and American creation which has always been comercialized.
The whole "jesus" thing has never been as popular as the Holiday traditions. Thats actually a reletively recent movement and delusion.

@xtcx2e - as I'm a student of history, I can say you're correct. Also, the Puritans in early colonial America frowned on any "frivolous" ritual other than the simple acknowledgement that christ was born on that day - which he wasn't. Hail Mythras!

I love how it says "TOWN BANS TRUE CHRISTMAS STORY" at the bottom of the screen. So much for unbiased. Fair and Balanced doesn't mean the anchors can bring their opinions in to the show like that. It's funny, Fox says that programs like this are "news commentary", and their REAL news doesn't bring opinion in to the matter at all. I've yet to see one of these REAL news shows. Where are they, exactly? Are they hiding in between all of this other bullshit?

No way, the errors in assumptions etc. Spiralling out of control into this holiday called christmas is something that is not free of scrutiny. Nothing is free of scrutiny as that would only stop human progress. This includes holidays as Christmas.

Well you make the assumption that atheist see you like that. Most of them do not. I am anti-theist and I do not see people as 4 year olds. I only see people as deluded when they talk about their "perfect religion".
If the 4 year old wants for everyone to celebrate the holiday and it is a made up holiday. Then yes someone should tell the 4 year old that, that is not how it works. If him and his parents want to celebrate it in their own home then go ahead.

I don't mind them reading from the Bible during a Christmas celebration any more than I mind people quoting Star Trek quotes at a Star Trek convention; the fiction is a part of the celebration and I think that whoever complained overreacted (if it was indeed just one Bible story). That said, Fox did more than just overreact, they used a nuke on an anthill. Then again, they'll use any opportunity they can find to go into their "War on Christmas" conspiracy theory.
