Wow. Hey, if anyone reading this follows the teachings of John Piper, he is a good man of God, and let's give him the benefit of the doubt on the Rick Warren thing. Let's all pray for our brother John, and let him know we love him, and trust his judgement.
"Purpose-driven church" is an agenda to move Christians away from true Biblical truths as set forth by the Bible. We are living in the last days, and there will be many deceptions. Stay prayed up & for discernment.
@recyclecongress WHAT? There's a "Purpose Driven Church" now?! Why? As if we needed another book, right? lol. Not funny, but laughing with the madness of it all, it gets to you after a few years...
Apparently the only people who aren't false converts are the ones Friel and McArthur have converted (how many is that, btw?). As if either of you are wholly qualified to judge the heart. That's a God thing, to put it plainly. You are my brother's in Christ and are precisely what is wrong with portions of the church today, driving away more people than you lead to a saving knowledge of Christ. I guess that's how you know who is "really" saved. You beat them up with legalism and see what sticks.
MacArthur is right on. Exactly what Scripture teaches. how could you if you are Christian and know the truth if what scriptures says, say that MacArthur was not stating what scripture says. You can't. That is not legalism- that's just a cop out many people in the American church today use so that they can continue living like the world. You pick and choose how you live and what you believe in scripture. Read your bible see what true legalism is and what true saving faith is! Then comment on Mac
one would laern well that you do not throw around condenation the way MacARuthur does in this clip. I know from living expefrience that it is NOT conviction of sin from the Spirit.
For every life destroyed by this kind of guilt slinging God will require the lives of those who do it.
do not think that because a heresy is of the devil that its opponents are any better.
as seen here, they usually are not, and are often quite arrogant, as the 2nd speaker here shows
@Strefanasha MacArthur didn't even get into the fact that Rick Warren was caught totally lying to his congregation about prop 8 or that he promotes occult Reiki teachers etc.
I looked at the purpose given life book some years ago.
it was legalistic for all its avoidance of the things mentioned in this video.
So i threw it out. . . . . . so that was MacArthur?: he wants to terrorize and drive to despair. he would be keen to crush people under their guilt if he himself has never been crushed under his own.
this is not conviction of sin.
as i see time and time again, there is error on one hand and pharisaism on the other
Very good advice. Discernment is so important when reading any of the so called" "self help" books. Make sure that you're not putting self ahead of God like so many of that genre of books tend to do.
In Matt 5 vs 17 -20 Christ says He did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it! Mark 7 : 1-23 commandments are found in vs 8-10 & Matt 15 1-9 shere Christ speaks to the Pharisees. Another place to look @ Mark12: 28-34 Love the Lord your God! In John 8: 1-12 Christ told the woman caught in adultery to go sin no more! You really need to go back to the bible & ask The Holy Spirit to reveal to you the truth. He is the Spirit of Truth & cannot lie. Please do read your bible.
@ solapower4100 I am assuming you are a christian & thus read the scriptures. I would suggest a re read of the Gospels according to Matthew, Mark,Luke & John. I did a quick check & came up with a number of verses where the law was used to convict ppl of sin.
Consider Jesus counseling a rich young ruler in Matt19:16-22 also see Mark 10:17-22 see also Luke 18: 18-23. Matt 5:17-30 speaks of @ least 2 commandments " You shall not murder & You shall not commit adultery.
@solapower4100 Not sure what you mean by "poles", I assume it is meant as some derogatory term. Google "What Did Jesus Do PDF" and you will see a free downloadable PDF book by Ray Comfort, named What Did Jesus Do, that addresses your question.
@WaterTheSeed well I have read and watched many wotm videos and propaganda. it seems to me there are giant loop holes in there theology, such as the above stated and "the law must be used to convict sinners" , and 1 out of 1 die. along with ray speaking at a prosperity conference, the night line debacle,(I wont use scripture than quotes scripture first chance he gets) let alone being on tbn etc....
there is no specific verses given to establish what they preach.
@gtrjunkyisfail , if you are determined to be against it, you will be. Each one of your arguments are based on faulty logic and overexertion. I am not interested in getting is a debate about 50 different things and running of on a tangent. How about you pick your most convicting argument and we will discuss that?
@WaterTheSeed and again no scripture backing up what ray preaches about salvation. or preaching the law without direct scriptural relationship. where does the bible say to forsake your sins in order to be saved?
@WaterTheSeed I did adobe has search features, and like I said no direct scripture to prove there point. 176 pages of old testament and man made theology.
@solapower4100 May I suggest that you actually read it rather that search for specific terms? There is no point asking me questions if you are not going to listen to my replies.
I am just trying to find someone from the washer/wotm/Macarthur camp who can answer why they believe these guys are telling the truth?
but yet there never is scripture, to back up there belief but when questioned it is always read this or that, as a christian we need to examine all that is said.
but yet we see them bash bell, and rick warren etc... but is wotm entirely preaching bible themselves? I see a lot of what they try to do is make mindless zombies of zealous people
Uh... here's some verses to back up what Ray Comfort and all them are saying:
Romans 7:7-8
What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead.
We dont' have to forsake our sins in order to be saved? Uh...
Matthew 3 1 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” 3
From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
@DavidUmstattd where is the word forsake at? all IO seen was the word repent?
apostasia , aphiēmi ,egkataleipō ,kataleipō are all the grekk words for forsake (or -en or -d)
metanoeō is the word for repent, which means to change ones mind not to forsake to entirely different concepts because IF YOU COULD FORSAKE YOUR SINS than you would be able to be saved by the law.
and speaking of the law where does the bible say YOU MUST use the law to convict sinners?
can I get someone to pray for me..im really feeling like I dont want to live anymore. im not suicidle but im feeling like I can t go on no more and wishing I could just leave this world peacefully..I just really need some strength to go on im drained...TY
@chasinherhorse , Sorry for my late reply. I sure will be praying for you. I recently had a good friend recommend a resource for Christians that are experiencing situations like you. Perhaps it may be helpful for you it's called "Quieting a Noisy Soul" just google it and you'll find it.
Please post back and let me know how you are doing.
none of you mention baptism after repentance. Acts 2:38 Peter said unto them repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins that you may receive the Holy Ghost.
the purpose drivin life is crap as with the holy bible. Lies and exaggerated storys to try and threaten and control minds on fear of death. Why would somone believe in nonsense that there is no proof except for what people tell you and expect you to believe.
The bible doesn't actually say that you need to repent to be saved. It does mention repentance on many different occasions, but that is due to what happens if someone really becomes saved. How can a person repent if they don't know what they're repenting for? If someone dosen't understand the gravity of what Jesus Christ really did on the cross?
Jesus Christ saved us! And we have to believe in HIM Repenting helps, but repentance does not secure our salvation.
@marlessangela, you got it!. Acts 17:30 "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:"
Nowdays, "repent" is always used as "repent of your sins". Is that what Paul said? No. In context, God use to wink at idol worship, but now commands ALL men to change direction (repent). Turn from anything we worship more than Christ.
Jesus did it all for us. After the resurrection, Jesus GIVES repentance (Acts 5:31) We add nothing to His finished work.
@chasinherhorse, "In him we have redemption through his BLOOD, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace" ~Ephesians 1:7
"To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his BLOOD, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to HIM be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen."~Revelation 1:6
That's the trouble with preaching "repentance of sins" Like the blood of Jesus wasn't enough... and robs His glory.
John MacArthur rebukes Rick Warren for teaching an inadequate gospel that is leading many Christians into apostasy. That's odd, since MacArthur teaches a believer can't apostatize. In reality both teach the heresy of once saved always saved. (2 PET. 2:1)
MacArthur isn't being the almighty decider -- he didnt' say he knows who is saved and who isn't, and has elsewhere said that only God can decide that. He simply criticized PDL for declaring people to be saved in an unbiblical way.
"False conversions". I love how this idiot has now become the almighty decider of who is saved and who isn't. He is a total fraud and does more damage than good to the Christian faith.
Wretched is awesome. Let the truth be told! There are many false teachers of the Gospel as Jesus said would deceive many in the last days. Our fulfillment of life will be in heaven. Jesus said if anyone wants to follow Him, they must first deny themselves and pick up their cross and follow Him. All these so called pastors that feed off of people's difficult situations and selling them books that does not do anything for them will stand and answer to God on the day of judgement.
I go to Saddleback. I am a born again Christian who committed my life to Jesus at Saddleback. I became aware of God's existance, my pride and separation from God and my need for repentance at Saddleback. Christians need to focus on the great Commandment and the Great Commission and stop wasting time telling other Christians they're going to hell because they don't say "repent" enough.
"Jesus couldn't tell Nicodemus the gospel." Excuse me? Jesus lived & spoke the gospel in everything He did or said. Have you read any of the parables? His encounters w/ the woman at the well or the rich young ruler?
I'm not saying Jesus NEVER preached repentance, but he didn't mention it to Nicodemus.
Jesus spoke to Nicodemus about the requirment of being born again. Thats what repentence is. Being born again means we put to death the old sinful self and are born a new spiritual person. That's what repentence is. We turn from our old sinful desires and turn to God. The old self dies and the new self in Christ is born. (Thus being born again). He may have not used that word but he was speaking to him about the act of it. Being born again is the result of repentence.
when Jesus shared the gospel w/ Nicodemus, he didn't mention repentance either, but I can imagine todd would have a few bones to pick w/ Jesus too. Todd misrepresents everyone he skewers.
Nicodemus was a Jewish Pharisee and would have fully understood the Jewish context of atonement for sin within the cotext he was speaking of with Jesus- it is us who dont understand the essence of turning from sin and repentance as we left our Jewish roots behind
First off, Jesus couldn't tell Nicodemus the gospel. Jesus fulfilled the gospel after His death and resurrection. Then His gospel was spread afterwords.

understand rthis clearly. the errors of those who see the bankruptcy of the church and do the wrong thing abvout it is one thing.
but the bankruptcy of us pharisees, for all our mouthing sound doctrine, is REAL. they who left us see this correctly, for all the error they embrace
we are as a rule as dead as those who chase the purpose driven, the emerging church, that toronto madness.
