  • i bet he can suck 2 dicks at once... that a complement

  • @FabioFresh or eat out two hotties at once.

  • socialsax com is a new saxophone social community. you can browse and chat on forum, download backing tracks for free, add video and music. not only that you can make new friends there!

  • Like this comment if Matt miller was your guitar teacher!

  • Jeff Coffin signed my guitar. It was pretty cool :D

  • Watch Coffin with the Flecktones!

  • Leroi was there through all the songs maturing and coming of ages so you can't diss jeff for having his own style while playing the songs he wasnt there.

  • DOUBLE SAX WHAT DOES IT MEAN

  • Great Double Sax Playing, as with the sax player from Maldita Vecindad.

  • ive never tried this and i will now

  • I just learned how to do this... It's hard as hell. But frankly, you feel like a GOD.

  • i have met jeff before and went to a clinic of his. he showed me how to do a lot of things on saxophone. how to get an amazing sound outta 2 saxophones like that was one of them; HOWEVER. i am still trying to get that accomplished. i hope to be as good as him one day!!

  • you cant really compare roi and jeff...they play completely different from one another...roi was pretty much 100% soul smooth warm playing that gave everyone goosebumps, jeff is more hard sharp crazy riff playing...i think both of them are 2 of the best musicians around, but you can't really compare the 2 playing styles to say who was better, its all about what you like more. like personally, i can't sit and listen to 20 minutes of the flecktones, but i could sit and listen 4 DMB albums

  • Jeff plays a fabulous sax solo on #41 of the Live Trax 1 CD, when he was a DMB guest in that particular concert. He never repeated such a deep sensitive solo like that, unfortunately, but he showed is capable of. Great musician, great guy, I had the opportunity to meet him in person. No ego whatsoever.

  • @joshyoda With all due respect, Carter Beauford is the best musician in DMB. But Coffin is not far behind. And DMB's music is not "simple." Some songs maybe, but that is a misnomer for most of their music.

  • thumbs up to that

  • agreed carter is by far the most advanced out of all of them

  • @harrisc42 Ya. Agreed. Its easy to rag on Dave, but he does write most all of their music and the lyrics he writes are great! So if you are playing with musicians of his class and writing songs of his caliber then maybe you could criticize, but any musician at that level has a respect for others. They know how hard it is, and also how easy it is to sit there at the computer and judge.

  • @harrisc42

I may get in trouble by saying this but Dave Mathews is the weakest link in his own band! He is a horrid singer, mediocre guitarist (being generous here), and as for his songs, they are a jumble of ideas that really are more strung together out of desperation instead of improvisation.

That said, yes his bandmates are extremely talented and first rate! Too bad they have to endure the coattails of their namesake because they transcend him.

  • @sunboyfun

    mediocre guitarist? are you serious?

  • @jwalsh913

I knew this would not be a popular stanse but I stand by it. I am not trying to stir up the ire of DMB fans, and I honestly tried to "get it" for years working in music retail and hearing DMB over and over. I heard a very capable band playing disorganized ideas. There is a difference between a jam that develops and just thrown together music. DMB always seemed the latter to me. Dave's voice is utterly poor, sorry. His guitar playing shows its boundries and limitations.

  • Jeff Coffin, however, is absolutely brilliant. Having heard the rest of the DMB, I can clearly hear the high level of musicianship. I always looked at it like the Emperor's New Clothes: Dave Matthews caught the ear of the public for whatever reason, it became a good gig but I view the material and Dave himself as the least interesting aspects of the group of players. Now that it snowballed, who is gonna tell Dave this?

  • @sunboyfun go play tripping billies, sing along with it, and then tell me dave matthews is a mediocre guitarist.

  • @DillonStewart12 I have heard this song since release. I went back, youtubed it a few times and stand by my original statement. Aside from some syncopation, it is yet another strum-strum ho hum from a guy that can't sing. His band is a bunch of fine players at a stoner's beckon call and paycheck! I'll take Steve Howe or Steve Morse. Lindsay Buckingham pisses on Mr Matthews. His acoustic Big Love will back me up!

  • Roi did play for show but for the 'music'. He quieted himself (his movements) went inside himself, you might call it the 'zone' and played from the pool of 'grux' (that place in the cosmos that sent him impromtu melodies & a variety of improvs). I doubt you can reach it by displaying your ability to perform on two instruments at one time. It's too showy. Too ego driven. Roi didn't play from the ego, he played from his spirit. YOu can tell just by watching him. You can do it too. Peace.

  • I doubt anything Jeff Coffin does is ego driven. The double saxophone thing is probably his rashaan roland kirk influence. Also I don't think Jeff should adjust his playing for when he's playing DMB because then he's not Jeff and I'm sorry but Jeff takes the cake over Leroi any day of the week. But thats just my opinion.

  • I disagree whole heartedly. LeRoi is a rare being. His playing leaves me in awe. Whereas, I'm still wondering why the band chose Jeff. Don't get me wrong Jeff may be great and all but up to now, he's just a rebound kind of guy. I think he won his position by default and I'm still waiting to be impressed. LeRoi was 'Grux'. Jeff well, he's Jeff. (I guess it depends on taste.) My father was a Jazz musician and we had music in our house hold so I've heard some good music. Roi=Good.

  • Well what if both Leroy and Jeff play from their heart and souls? Wouldn't the outcome be different because they have lived different lives? just because one player may come off as "showy" to you doesn't mean they aren't playing from their heart and spirit.

It seems we come from opposite ends of the spectrum. Leroi's playing has never left me in awe. He is iconic in his sound that he leaves behind on all the DMB records he's on but he has never moved me in an emotional way. just my opinion

  • Okay, I'll accept that. I'll accept that Jeff plays from his heart too. He's a musician and they tend to do so. So let's just agree to have our favorites. Peace and blessings.

  • I wish you the same

  • @saxobone13 hello look this video

  • Actually, I meant to say that "Roi DIDN'T play for show..."

  • I love Jeff but I think he should play one sax at a time and perfect it. He still needs to adjust his style when playing with his new extended family Dave Matthews Band. (This is coming from love, Jeff)

  • ho-ly-shit.

  • I went insane when i saw him do this at the show i went to this summer. Unbelievable

  • So sick.

    VERRY sick Live.

  • sick. :D

  • wow...it's wonderfull...and i think coffin is a good musician..because he like improvisasi model in saxophone...i like this...

  • Comment removed

  • thats sick!

  • man, that was sweet

  • he played two saxaphones at the same time at the Cville show this year. it totally blew my mind

  • Jeff Coffin is unreal

  • amazing

  • no way duuuuuuuuuude

  • they even say he is replacing leroi on their website.

  • the fleck tones play like 10 shows a year now... bela fleck is playing here in savannah by himself... hate to say it to all you flecktone fans but jeffs whether he's an offical member or not, hes not leaving dmb

  • Hes not on the DMB... hes a sub till they have a new sax player.

  • False. It has been announced that Jeff Coffin IS the new DMB sax player,

  • False. It has been announced that Jeff Coffin is touring with DMB as a guest and also appearing in some recordings. There has been no official announcement yet to whether or not he is the new member.

  • Also false. Jeff Coffin joined as an official member, but recently, Jeff Coffin's website has announced that he IS an official member. Rashawn Ross and Tim Reynolds, much like Butch Taylor, were simply 'Touring Guests'

  • False, Rashawn Ross is DMB's trumpet player and arranger

  • At this point, I don't care anymore. I love the band and all the guys that play with them now and have played with them in the past. I no longer feel the need to argue membership of the band with anyone. Clearly we're all fans and we all love the music, so regardless of whos in the band, they're giving us enjoyment. Also, we can all agree that tumaini33's comment above is just stupid. So it's ok. The end.

  • Dude, so what? hell never live up to LeRoi

  • Agreed

  • He's pretty much the replacement for Leroi (RIP), but they label him as a "touring memeber." Coffin is also on their new album due out June 2.

  • Jeff Coffin does play with DMB.He has unofficially officially replaced Leroi Moore who passed away August 2008. He will be touring with DMB for the spring tour 2009 and summer tour 2009. He is also on the upcoming DMB album Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King, slated for a June 2nd 2009 release. RIP Leroi.

  • You're an idiot.. you obviously aren't current on music, let alone DMB

  • Comment removed

  • no one will dispute the Flecktones are better musicians, but you might want to check up on the state of DMB. Jeff Coffin started playing with them midway through last summer after Roi was injured, and since he died, Jeff has been added as an unofficial member.

  • you my friend are a dunce. get hip with the times fuckstick.
