Well, if you're going to charge that much, I might as well just buy blank edged shells and buy my own hardware, and make my own custom kit. Have the metal parts powder coated to what I want, and stain my shells myself. Sounds easy enough.
SJC does not make their own shells, they do not make much of anything themselves, they buy keller shells from precision drum and just put them togetehr and such. Not worth the money. The only thing you really pay for is the finish, which any true drummer knows doesnt matter for shit.
@07SayOcean just use the bottom of a cymbal stand and then get on pice from you tom stand that mounts your toms to your bass drum. Just take it off, and put on of the mounting pieces and put it in the bottom of the cymbal stand. it looks better that way then it does with a snare stand
@shaunbrucken123 they do care a lot about the look, all customizable, but the sound of SJC drums is amazing too! All top notch quality. But it is a custom drum company, so the look is gonna be fore-front too.
well there is a mrket for it though you must admit. is it staying power? time will tell. I want to know do they mfg thier own shells or are they Keller
My SJC custom Drumkit will be done by the second week in october. Sure they are a little on the expensive side, BUT nothing, and I really mean NOTHING beats their quality/craftsmanship as well as their amazing customer service. I ask questions all the time and they answer withing 6-12 hours of me sending the email. Mike the owner is the nicest guy ever too haha. Can't wait to meet the guys when I go pick up my kit!
shine custom drums are getting up there too. but yeah sjc is awesome too the matches use their drums so awesome but i play shine drums because customer service was amazing they got my kit ready in i think 6 weeks which was amazing super fast and super high quality.
I think people are fooled by the finishes. Keller shells are good shells and sound good too. But all this is is finish, finish, finish. I'm sure SJC sounds fine but I'd rather spend a ton of money on a Tama Starclassic or a Pearl Masterworks (the craftsman picks the wood, bends the wood, cuts the edges, finishes) . . . yeah these guys are the emo kid drummers wet dream. You'd never see a Tomas Haake on one of these.
The hard thing about Drums... is a entry kit could sound like a Custom kit... It all depends on the acoustics, the way it's tuned, the heads and even the way it's struck. Oh yeh, and the sizes and materials toO!
There are many many Custom guys out there. It's hard to commit to just one.

I spent 8,550 dollars on my custom SJC drums, and it was worth it! This kills my 10,000 dollar OCDP drum

That's some serious funds Dude.. Only you will know the true value of your kit. You should post some photos so we can see it's true beauty...
If I spent £8550 on a kit in the UK, that would be
$13,977.68 in the USA

Actually these sound amazing, especially their bass drums and snares.

I would not be so sure about that as they are sponsoring the new england metal and hardcore festival.

who cares how the look, how do they sound?

The new emo/pop-punk custom drum manufacturer of the month. Ugh.
First OCDP, then C&C, now SJC. Only difference is that C&C makes fantastic vintage-style kits. OCDP and SJC just make "bling" kits, IMO.

not really. I could get a really nice 1 up 2 down acrylic kit with butcher hoops for the same price as a 6 piece DW.
