Gosh, I wasn't born until 9 years after this was filmed. I really didnt know of them until I was in middle school and honestly, I pry wouldnt have liked them (looks wise i mean) but DAMN, Eric is one of THE sexiest guys I have EVER seen! I even love his hair :) But he's got to have the sexiest face & bod of the 70s :)...can I travel back in time just to hook up with him once? :D
@LittleJohnJack The Bay City Rollers had a totally different appeal and musical approach than The Arrows, who were a bit older I think, and had a much more heavy American rock music indocrination. as evidenced by their writing songs like "I love rock n roll." The BCR were more popular, but musically there's no comparison really.
The Arrows got their own TV series based on their performance of "I love rock n roll" on Muriel Young's "45" TV pop show. The Arrows wrote and released the original version of "I love rock n roll" in 1975.
The Arrows singer Alan Merrill was hanging out in Tokyo with Les's son Richard in Tokyo this week. Richard went to see Alan's show at the Shibuya Duo Exchange with his mum Peko.
Have you both read "Bye Bye Baby" by Caroline Sullivan? Excellant account of a Rollermaniac firsthand and all that entailed back in the glammy poptastick 70's.
Bay City Rollers Rock! I still love them. Just had a warning. My feelings must go somewhat censored. Love you. I had such fun with my friends. Just bless them for the fun they gave to me and my friends.
Strange to see them get up in the last few seconds and belt out " Love Rock N Roll." But - you see - it is a 70s song - not a Joan Jett song. Check out the original by The Arrows - Alan Merrill
omg I basically was an 80's kid that song at the end I never heard by anyone but JOAN JETT I thought she made that song!! Guess not-I was just a tiny tot but I adored the BCR so much how little I knew because I was so little when they were out. Its strange to actually realize and take notice who they really are and what they really look like so weird and cool at the same time
I remember these guys. It made a person uncool if you liked this group. Teen Beat magazine, and other teen music mags featured them ALL the time. My best friend dressed in tartan and cut her hair an inch long all over. She LOVED Woody, wanted to marry him. I pretended not to know her, she was the ONLY one in HIGH SCHOOL dressed that way.
That's an awesome course. I studied Sound Production in theatre school in Niagara Falls Canada when I was younger. My instructor credited my splicing abilities to the fact that I was a drummer and very sensitive to rhythm. That was twenty five years ago. I'll bet the studios look quite different today! We were still using reel-to-reel.
Saw the Rollers at the Palladium (Manhattan) in January '77 and at the Westchester Premier Theater (upstate NY) in April, '77. I was 16 at the time. It was incredible. Could not hear one bit of music from all the screaming. Fantastic experience and memory. Love the Rollers !
I attended two concerts, both in '77 in Illinois. I was screaming so hard I'm not sure I heard them, but it was very, very exciting. The highlight of my young life.
Fun to hear all these accents mingling. The Scottish accented Rollers, The New York City Arrows singer and the Preston Lancashire UK Arrows drummer. It's like a pop version of the UN! :)
Does anyone know how the Madison Square Garden thing worked? How could were these guys in concert? They had a great power sound. So, since I was stuck on the farm in their heyday, I am curious if anyone has ever been to one of their concerts.
These vids were posted for pleasure and for people to enjoy. They were not uploaded to start confrontation. I would appreciate all personal squabbles to be addressed off list. Thank you! - Keith
Fine and when you sell a dozen or more albums, perform sell out concerts all over the world, have millions of fans adoring you who will post videos of you here so we can sit back and judge.
Please people, no fighting! I think the two bands are fabulous and it's fun to see them together after all these years. It takes a lot to get up on a stage and perform under pressure.
Both of these bands are great and fun to see. That's all that matters.
It is well documented that they had really bad drug problems. But if you think that not being able to stand still, interupting poor Eric, who had something to say, patting him on the back (and it embarrassed the guy) is normal....I will just head into my Janis Joplin phase.
Don't even let me get into the Arrows. I had never heard of them but
Les would do anything for attention, including interrupting on interviews and trying to take over the stage if he thought another member was getting more attention....guess this is another indication of drug use??? I'm not an expert so I wouldn't know. And I never said they didn't have any problems with drugs, I know they did. But hey, it's just a video, there was no need to imply they were high on drugs. This may be why you're here, but as fans of the BCR, we are not here for that reason.
WOW, you're good if you can tell from an old video if people are on drugs as strong as coke, while you're at it, judge the hosts and the audience as well, they all must be on drugs too then huh...maybe you're the one drugs since it's so clear to you.
Ian Mitchell is from Ireland, he was only with the BCR for about 7 months, he hyped up his own fan base then went back to Ireland and formed his own band, Rosetta Stone
actually, ian went back to his old group, the young city stars, and to avoid comparisons with the rollers, ian and his friend damian changed the group's name to rosetta stone.
you want to see how musicians look when they're high on drugs....go check out the videos of Kurt Cobain and his druggie wife, the Stones(no pun intended)etc... The Rollers got into that crap later into their musical careers thanks to their manager who also stole millions from them. To say someone is on drugs simply because they're not standing still, is well...I think you know.
Tam Paton admits he stole all their cash and is sitting pretty in a massive house, thank you very much. Saw a programme about it recently, very nasty business.
maybe so, but they didn't get into the drug scene until well after this time period...and you can't they someone is on drugs simply because they don't stand still...are you kidding?

Furthermore, it's pretty insulting to accuse someone who has NEVER DONE COKE that I MUST know what I am talking about.
Did I accuse them of being on coke? No, I said Les was high. That could have been anything back in the 70's. Wouldn't know what.
I know drugs only from the chronic pain I feel. They are prescribed. I do not get high, I do not want to get high, and right now....I am pissed.
Your mission has been accomplished. Thank you.
