I do not know the answer to the first question but the starting salary for a first officer at MESA is $18,000 a year. Yep $18,000 a year (other regional pay are just as crappy but I hear their working conditions is much better)

Johnny O was a totally being nice in this scene. Speak to any employee of Mesa and he tries to cut through FAA regulations just so he can profit. He has no idea how vital his employees are to his company and that without them he is zero. Watch for J.O to be removed as CEO in 2009 as his China venture airline goes under. Everyone from pilots, flight dispatchers and ramp crews are dissatisfied by how he treats us. Thank god I am using this airline as a stepping stone.
